I honestly can’t decide who’s more annoying, Percy or Vera. They’d both be a nightmare to have living next door. I know that after Curly moves out Percy becomes Emily’s lodger and even saintly Emily gets exasperated by him.

Have just started watching this as have not had a tv for a while there are lots of random episodes on you tube from the 70,s and early 80,s that I have been watching though! I think with Jack and vera they realised as they got older that nobody else would put up with either of them. and they mellowed I have just watched today's episode ,Sally and Gail don't look any different from present day episodes Shock

scrabbler3 · 06/03/2018 23:13

Loved the references to Yuppies! And Gloria's blue dress.

cloudyweewee · 09/03/2018 06:38

I love Bet's wit. When Vera remarked that the Rovers was quiet: "This is a pub, Vera, not a remake of Ben Hur!"

user1471558723 · 09/03/2018 23:23

Does anyone know happened with the story line concerning Vera's light fingered mother?
She hasn't been mentioned in the last few episodes. I think I must have missed something.

ChevalierTialys · 12/03/2018 10:09

Laughed all the way through the second episode today. Bet was hilarious telling everyone she's had her orders from 'my Lord and master' and making Alec sweat.

Housewife2010 · 12/03/2018 10:12

Alec & Bet were quite shockingly amorous at 6.30 this morning!

cloudyweewee · 12/03/2018 18:18

I know! I nearly choked on my porridge Grin

BluthsFrozenBananas · 12/03/2018 18:21

Reading ahead on the program guide it says Amy get caught by Jack stealing bottles of ale from the Rovers.

scrabbler3 · 12/03/2018 22:22

I haven't warmed to that character. Is she supposed to be a Hilda replacement? She has no redeeming features, she's one-dimensional with a single facial expression. I can't remember her from the 1980s so I'm thinking her tenure must have been brief - hope so!

user1471558723 · 12/03/2018 23:02

She was back again today!

I agree with you Scrabbler, I can't recall her at all from the first time around. She is more of a caricature maybe that's why she wasn't Kept as a long running character.

I'm fascinated by Emily Bishop's hair. There is a definite line along her forehead which suggests she may be wearing a wig. I never spotted that on my tiny screen back in the eighties.

GreyGardens88 · 12/03/2018 23:04

I like watching the old episodes on youtube. Realistic characters based in a proper community, not totally overblown melodrama with serial killers and paparazzi stalking the streets. Corrie has totally lost its way

Kannet · 14/03/2018 14:47

Why do they all keep calling Gloria "kid". She must be well into her thirties

OP posts:
BluthsFrozenBananas · 14/03/2018 16:44

I can kind of understand Betty calling Gloria kid, but with everyone else, especially Mike, it’s weird. No one calls Shirley, Sally or even Jenny kid like that. I guess it’s meant to be a term of affection but used about a woman who’s at least thirty it’s creepy.

cattychatty · 14/03/2018 17:48

Overly invested and highly excited to see Kevin and Sally’s house now it’s been done up ... may be time to get a life Grin

scrabbler3 · 14/03/2018 18:00

The age thing with Gloria is weird. The actress is around 35 and looks it. Yet everyone is behaving as if she's an ingenue. And this was 30 years ago when women were routinely married with families by that age and wouldn't have been regarded as youngsters.

ChevalierTialys · 14/03/2018 22:24

What's "moon, June and spoon"?

Mike said it when he was rowing with Gloria

user1471558723 · 14/03/2018 22:54

I think it was referring to "Moon, June, Spoon " a 1950s hit by The Fontane Sisters. It was very schmaltzy, and the antithesis of Mike's taste, I would imagine

In the North West you don't have to be young to be called "kid". It's a way of showing a protective family feeling type of thing. My colleague often says to me "cheer up kid!" And I'm much older than Gloria!

x2boys · 14/03/2018 23:15

Yes I'm from the northwest too although in my town its "cock" that's used a lot are you all right cock etcSmile I lived in Salford for a bit though and a lot of people referred to their siblings (younger or older ) as "our kid"

cloudyweewee · 15/03/2018 06:30

Is it me or were there more extras in the old episodes? Nowadays you rarely seem them. Probably cos the cast is so huge.

CrankyCat · 15/03/2018 09:58

Wish Gloria would get some self respect and stop chasing after Mike Baldwin, he is hardly a catch is he? urrgh

cloudyweewee · 15/03/2018 18:19

He's marginally more shaggable than Alan Bradley, who was her first target.

Kannet · 15/03/2018 19:20

Bets miscarriage was heartbreaking. It seemed very real.

Anyone else finding the Ken and the newspaper takeover story very tedious?

CoolCarrie · 16/03/2018 07:57

It was well handled, Bet and Alec were excellent, quite moving.
