"She should have apologised there and then to Charlotte, I hope she stays tonight."

How the heck could she have done that, if no one pointed out to her that she'd used the wrong name?Confused.
She didn't deliberately call someone by the wrong name and she didn't deliberately not apologise.

Wingedharpy · 15/10/2017 12:56

Alexandra!
Just call me Shirley!

ManicUnicorn · 15/10/2017 13:08

I'm quite disgusted at some of the comments about Alexandra. How the hell is her memntioning her mum, who died only a few weeks ago 'calculating'?

Hang your head in shame the arsehole who said that. Id say something stronger but Strictly is meant to be an entertainment show and fun and warm so I won't drag the thread down anymore.

ppeatfruit · 15/10/2017 13:08

Yes it's quite normal Duck Why are you asking?

Kurri I remember Ore very well, I love him and yes some posters on here were complaining all the time about his crying. I don't do twitter but I bet they were the same on there.

millimat · 15/10/2017 13:11

When Jannette and Aljaz have babies they will be very beautiful babies Wink
Have you noticed how the increasing love in here for Kevin has started calling him Kevin and not KFG?! Grin

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 13:16

I'm presuming the ppl criticising Alexandra for blubbing haven't lost their Mums in recent years. I have, and will defend sudden blubbing to the hilt. If you've had a lovely Mum, losing her will leave you red raw.

My one criticism is that since Strictly hasn't bothered to explain to viewers that her Mum has died a few weeks ago, many viewers won't know WTF was going on, with everyone blubbing all over the place - Claudia, Oti and Shirley were all teary. Tbh I only found out about her Mum from this thread.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 15/10/2017 13:21

ppeat i’m asking because i’ve not seen her discuss it, so I wondered how you’d reached the conclusion, given that it is an actual medical diagnosis.

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 13:21

People were complaining about Ores crying because it wasn't prompted by anything much, other than getting decent scores. He was having the same experience as all the other celebs, and they weren't weeping every week. He wept more at getting a good score from Craig, than people who had just been eliminated!

Whereas Alexandra has a pretty visceral reason for blubbing. So it's not the same.

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 15/10/2017 13:22

Anyway, just watched Alexandra. I though it was stunning and the crying looked natural and normal. It certainly didn’t look like ‘pretty’ crying that could be manipulative. She looked like she didn’t want to be on camera at that particular point.

ppeatfruit · 15/10/2017 13:29

Duck Why would anyone discuss it? It's just something that happens to all of us at some time or other; if you've not had a good enough night's sleep, getting on a bit, etc. It comes and goes.

Didn't Alex discuss her mum's death at the beginning ep. of SCD? ( I thought that it was her grand mum) if you blinked you missed it.

SoupDragon · 15/10/2017 13:30

No, that's just being forgetful, not "short term memory loss"

DuckOffAutocorrectYouShiv · 15/10/2017 13:31

Never mind, ppeat.

I love Susan Calman. She’s so cheerful and like Shirley said, light on her feet. Surprisingly so, I think. Looks like she’s really enjoying it.

ppeatfruit · 15/10/2017 13:40

Grin Duck Yes I love Susan too, there's no side to her. Kevin is an ideal partner for her, I hope she wins , she's certainly having a journey Grin

Alex has been very good from the beginning. Though I like her and I don't reckon she's fake.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 15/10/2017 13:48

I’m not sure Grimsby’s been mentioned at all this year. I’m not missing it tbh. They’re playing the regional card with Glasgow of course, but not in an annoying way.

RhiannonOHara · 15/10/2017 14:14

Susan was my favourite this week. Utterly charming. SO light on her feet, speeding around the floor. Joyous. Lovely clever routine too. Kevin is GOOD.

I loved Oti's routine but thought it was a bit beyond Jonie's acting ability TBH.

Alexandra was excellent but I thought 10s were OTT; they messed up the slide through the legs a bit.

Liked Gemma too.

Joe was rubbish. I know this is irrational and not nice but I really dislike watching Simon (did Karen look pissed off/fed up after they danced?); Debbie was predictably too 'pulled-up' and not earthy enough for Latin.

I didn't feel that Charlotte got the pumping leg action AT ALL; could barely tell it was a jive.

I thought Aston had a lack of elegance and swing and was overpraised.

Agree with PP that Brian is improving and working hard. I'm warming to him.

Molly was underwhelming. The dance seemed more like a samba; I didn't really see the sinuous figure-of-eight hip action of the salsa. Too much lifting and twirling about as well. Don't like AJ's choreography.

I thought Davood's VW was lovely: dramatic but romantic. Beautiful dress for Nadiya. I agree with Craig a floor spin doesn't belong in such a romantic, elegant dance.

Ruth was surprisingly good and has obviously grafted.

All those posters bitching about Alexandra for talking about her mum are being foul. Shame on you all.

Claudia was excellent in handling Alexandra being upset; kept the show going while still supporting and comforting her. What a pro.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 15/10/2017 14:30

Yes I think that incident showed Claudia at her best. That’s why she gets the big bucks because dealing naturally and compassionately with a completely unexpected emotional crisis whilst simultaneously keeping the show on the road and dealing with the practical stuff under huge live time pressure is a challenge that almost nobody else could handle that well.

ellenanora5 · 15/10/2017 14:40

IfYouGoDownToTheWoodsToday, there is no need to be so rude in your reply to my comment, I got the impression that she realised as soon as she said it, I'm just trying to enjoy the show like I have done since it started, anyway think I'll check out of this thread, it's not a very nice one.

GrouchyKiwi · 15/10/2017 15:51

Flowers ellen. This is usually a lovely thread. Perhaps all those being bad-tempered and unpleasant could remember that.

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 16:05

I also think Tess is quite good in those moments too. I am not a fan of that robotic throwback to the 80s type of delivery BUT she does keep things moving along at a brisk clip at judging and always lightly hops on it when there's an argy bargy or when there's a mild fuck up like the wrong name. You never see her sweat and that's the gift, I think.

The cost is being accused of being bland and a BBC drone. But she does the job she's hired for, that's for sure.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 15/10/2017 16:07

if wasn't being particularly rude, she was pointing out the obvious: unless someone pointed it out or told her in an earpiece, Shirley wouldn't be able to say sorry for something she didn't know about until afterwards. She then said sorry on twitter.
Having got criticism for calling Chizzy Lizzie, there's no way it was intentional as it makes her look incompetent. Whereas Brenda said ''my dear'' deliberately and not because he forgot Shirley's name. It made him look like a sexist twat.
As for leaving the thread, it would be a shame to lose anyone who is a fan of the show, abandoning us in week 4 means you'll have to name change to Will Young dammit! Wink
Cake Brew twirls ellen and if at the same time on the dancefloor like a female non-pervy Justin Timberlake! (not saying Justin's pervy, just cannot get Janet Jackson's nipple out of my head) Grin

TheSassyAssassin · 15/10/2017 16:19

Awww luvs you Gorge...still remember the dip you gave me for geeing up the glitterball petition. Agree. No need for anyone to go anywhere! Ignore the dread, enjoy the thread! SmileGlitterballGlitterballGlitterballWine

but why did you mention JJs nipple? 🙊🙉🙈

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 15/10/2017 16:44

Hey there lovely sass, do you not remember the furore at the Superbowl?! They claimed it was a wardrobe malfunction...
The song Rock Your Body (used to love it and he used to twirl two ladies at the same time). Tune. Anyway...
Justin and Janet duetted together and got to ''gonna have you naked by the end of this song'' and he ripped off part of Janet's bustier Bucks Fizz stylee, to reveal her nipple but not really cos it had some kind of decoration on it.
Everyone went WOAH NIPPLE and slut-shamed Janet for a while and Justin Timbersnake said nada.
I am feeling very old now.

GColdtimer · 15/10/2017 16:44

GLOW what you said further up thread was spot on. Not a massive fan of AB but felt for her tonight. You can “not be a fan” without being nasty. Also, she was 19 when she win the X factor - 9 years ago. Am sure she has changed a bit since then. I saw her in the bodyguard and she was incredible.

Anyway, I loved Gemma tonight and Susan. She has surprised me. Was disappointed with joe and Johnnie. Was not surprised Debbie struggled with the chacha. Thought the judging of Charlotte was cringy and awkward, even without the name mistake. Think it’s time for either Charlotte or Simon to go but have a feeling we may have a shock middle boarder in the DO (or even two). It often happens around week 4 or 5. Could be mollie or Davood. Not keen on Nadiya’s choreography.

TheSassyAssassin · 15/10/2017 16:48

Gorge yes, I remember vaguely the furore...just didn't want to be reminded again! Wink And yes two not a fan either but credit where it's due...she's dancing well and her tears last night were genuine IMHO as she got a little overwhelmed by the scores...

Anyway. Here's to more glitter later! Glitterball

CeeBeeBee · 15/10/2017 16:54

I feel sorry for Davood when it comes to Craig's turn to comment. He seemed especially unkind to Davood and Nadiya last night when he reeled off the list of things he didn't like about their dance. They do, however, need to tone things down and save the tricks for faster, dances rather than trying to shoe horn them into traditional ballroom dances.
