Loved Ruth, Gemma and Susan like many others on this thread.

I have said all day along that the issue with Mollie is AJ. He's too fast and it's always about him. Always is.

It's difficult to watch Charlotte with Brendan grabbing her throughout the dance. How is anyone meant to dance with that going on.

I'm beginning to realise how important the pro's teaching is. Alijaz and Kevin seem to get the best out of their partners.

CaveMum · 15/10/2017 07:09

Being a good dancer is no indicator of being a good teacher unfortunately. Unless you can "think" like a teacher and break steps down and explain them in easy to understand (for a beginner) ways, you're just not going to get the best from your Celeb

Kevin will have grown up watching his parents teach, and probably helping out in classes as he got older, so it stands to reason that he us good at it. I'm not his biggest fan but I agree that he's a good teacher.

ArtfulPuss · 15/10/2017 07:29

Voted for Gemma and Susan - enjoyed their dances the most, thought they both showed improvement and have clearly been working hard. Gemma is usually so smiley but managed to keep her 'paso' face on throughout the dance! Susan is so light on her feet. Agree with others re. Kevin's choreography. And am glad that he is no longer doing that annoying high kick at the end of the intro bit when they're all lined up on the dance floor.

AJ really is too fast - he ruined it for Claudia last year.

Armography: a word I have only ever heard on Strictly but not yet this year...

MrsJamin · 15/10/2017 07:31

I'm just so impressed with Kevin in teaching Susan how to do that quickstep. She had no experience whatsoever and really managed to pull it off. Aljaz is so giddy with excitement at gemma's last two dances, it's so lovely to see. Such a shame we didn't see more of Pasha this series, I always think he lets the woman shine compared to how AJ rushes his partner through stuff.

KittyVonCatsington · 15/10/2017 07:55

I must say, I was very surprised at how 'ballgown'y Shirley's dress was tonight. It really didn't suit being a judges outfit, I thought.
And on the other side, Tess' dress was just a dream-very surprised!
Can't wait for the results show! Simon and Charlotte in the dance off, methinks.

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 08:10

I used to think Kevin was quite arrogant but I've completely reversed my opinion of him

Yes, I used to be think him terribly smug. But this year he has exactly the right attitude. He's obviously having a ball with Susan. Mind you, she seems delightful.

I do think she's too short though and will really struggle to keep those shoulders down. How tall is Kevin? He always struck me as being quite short but there was about a foot in the difference between them last night.

Figgygal · 15/10/2017 08:11

I don't get why people don't like Alexandra? What's the problem? I was a fan on X factor have seen her live a couple of times I think of her as hard working happy and genuine.

ElspethFlashman · 15/10/2017 08:12

Was anyone else DELIGHTED at the discomforted look on Brendan's face when he only got 19?

CeeBeeBee · 15/10/2017 08:15

I agree figgy. Alexandra does seem to have a good work ethic and is really determined which is why I think she and Gorka make a good team. I never saw her on XF but people have said she's arrogant and was also not very nice as a guest judge on there.

CeeBeeBee · 15/10/2017 08:17

Can't say I took much notice of Brendan's face but Charlotte didn't seem to mind so much. At least he kept his mouth shut this time!

CeeBeeBee · 15/10/2017 08:23

Ive just been on fb and accidentally found out who got eliminated. If you follow the SCD page, do not read the posts if you don't want any spoilers for tonight!

Piggywaspushed · 15/10/2017 08:35

I don't think Kevin is especially tall : Susan is about 4 ft 10! I think he is about 5 ft 8 or 9.

SESthebrave · 15/10/2017 08:43

Loved it last night.
A few thoughts (for what they're worth):

  • I love Alexandra and Gorka's dancing and agree you can't fault her work ethic. As for her tears, I can only imagine her grief and performing live like that will only magnify emotions.
  • I know Shirley's dress was a bit ballgowny but it was beautiful. Did I notice that she'd not washed fake tan off her left palm properly? (Although I'd have thought someone would have applied it for her)
However I'm liking her as a judge. She's clear, constructive but says what she really thinks without making it all about her.
  • I thought Ruth and Susan had both dramatically improved and I'm pleased for them both.
  • Debbie is a ringer and I believe the judges have been directed to give her slightly lower scores to take away public comment on that. Craig said he deducted points as they were more than 10 secs out of hold but I struggled to see that.
  • why were there so many shots of Gok Wan in the audience?
  • at this stage my top 5 are: Alexandra, Ashton, Johnny, Gemma and Molly
MissEliza · 15/10/2017 09:01

There's a lot of love for Susan on Twitter. I'm surprised and pleased she's doing well. Can someone please explain what a 'ringer' is?!Blush

SoupDragon · 15/10/2017 09:05

A ringer is someone who has had loads of dance experience prior to Strictly. Not ballroom/Latin but general dancing which gives them the edge over complete novices.

The80sweregreat · 15/10/2017 09:06

I love ' bring me sunshine' and my Uncle had it at his funeral, so it always makes me cry!
It was a great routine - I just love Susan and she seems a nice person too. I'd love her to win the whole thing.
Alexandra is a league on her own.
Ruth was also very good last night, very determined.
The women are seeing off the men!!

SESthebrave · 15/10/2017 09:07

MissEliza - basically Debbie is a professional dancer. She's a trained ballerina and has been artistic director of her own ballet company.

Elendon · 15/10/2017 09:09

I just knew Alexandra was going to cry, it's just what happens when you loose someone you love dearly, ecstatic one minute and deeply grieved the next. There really is no holding back on that emotion. She was brilliant and I so enjoyed watching them both dance.

Loved Gemma's PD - it's my favourite dance and she did it so well.

And isn't Susan so elegant in a longer dress! That dance was so good.

SoupDragon · 15/10/2017 09:11

My thoughts
I've never understood the hate for Kevin.
I can't understand why Brenda is still on the show.
I gather that Debbie isn't mourning enough and Alexandra is mourning too much
As I said earlier, Susan was such a surprise this week. She skipped lightly over the floor at amazing speed!
Aston, Joe and Johnny were disappointing this weeek.
On the subject of pros who bring out the best in their partner, I've always thought Anton does a good job when he gets allocated a Duffer.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 15/10/2017 09:13

Yes - I loved Susan in that dress, too. She's short, she's chubby - and she looked fabulous!

TheSassyAssassin · 15/10/2017 09:15

I expect Brucie would have uttered those exact same words Schaden...

Looking forward to tonight Smile

bonfireheart · 15/10/2017 09:20

The female celebs are doing well this year and I think it shows that they've got partners who have been on the show for a while like Alijaz, Kevin, Gorka. The male celebs struggling are the ones with new female pros like Davood. AJ is still pretty new and it shows in the haphazard routines he is cheoreographing.

LittleWitch · 15/10/2017 09:43

Do the pro dancers really choreograph the routines? I thought that was done by the pro choreographers who do the group dances etc?

MegCleary · 15/10/2017 09:48

Artem and Natalie were meant to jive to Proud Mary but she was injured. Stating my position firmly in the Jonnie camp, who and where are people hearing he is not nice Sad

ChessieFL · 15/10/2017 09:54

Both Gorka and AJ only joined last year, bonfire! Agree about the differences in their choreography and teaching though.
