Fizz first please. And everyone related to her.

Actually he's going to have get Andy to start digging out an extension to fit them all in.

It's a shame that the writing for Erica wasn't up to scratch. Claire King is a decent actress and I liked her chemistry with Beverley Callard, and her character's closeness to Mary.

Eventually, the talented actors will leave and only the dross and new characters will be there.

The writers really need to watch the old eps on ITV2 and learn some lessons. They're trying to be as dramatic, exciting and OTT as Dallas but what worked for a show that featured glam Texas high society and went out once weekly, doesn't work for a show set on a UK terraced street that's broadcast multiple times per week.

Wishfulmakeupping · 07/11/2017 12:07

Completely agree about Claire King- they really missed the mark with her like she said scenes woth her, Liz and Eileen putting the world to rights would have been fantastic but instead they shoved her off with Dev and didn't invest any real character development in her at all real shame she's a very good actress.

FineSally · 07/11/2017 13:36

lack of attention to detail is really irking me now. Surely Johnny's insurance payout is for the business & not his own personal money?

And yes, £80K won't get you very far these days. I assume this is just a lazy way to get them out of the program for a few months.

millimat · 07/11/2017 14:26

Where was Aidan when was was on the phone to alya? Is he now sleeping in the factory (even though it's not meant to have a roof?).

MrsSteveMcDonald · 07/11/2017 14:43

I guessed it was the factory, looks like they left the crib area alone and he has nowhere else to go

lizzieoak · 07/11/2017 15:42

About a week behind in Canada, but Norris is unemployed?!! I’m sure he co-owns the Kabin w Rita so how can she just sell up? And even if she could, it doesn’t suit her character at all, to undermine him like that.

I won’t be entirely sorry if they retire Rita though. Her glamour level does my head in for the owner of a backstreet newsagents. They certainly did not dress like that nor wear posh wigs like that when I lived in England!

bufin · 07/11/2017 16:26

Prisoners in cellars, ridiculous story lines, Corrie has totally lost it's way, but Rita's wig developing alopecia has tipped me over the edge.

Enough's enough.

Akire · 07/11/2017 17:39

Surely they all worked there years so nearly everyone would get redundancy papmemts. Mostly a week for every year that’s got to be huge amount off 80k. He can’t just not pay, can he?

lizzieoak · 07/11/2017 17:49

I wonder if they are consciously testing our ability to suspend disbelief? Or are they just really, really crap writers, determined to undermine a British institution?

WWED? (What would Ena do should be their mantra, or WWTPS? What would Tony say?)

Smeaton, for me the matter doesn’t come into play if the actors are good. Scott and Bailey, for example, I’d forget they were Suranne and Leslie and fully believe in them as Rachel and Janet.

I think Corrie’s trying to be Eastenders, but if I wanted to watch Eastenders I would.

I miss Mavis and Derrick :(

eddiemairswife · 07/11/2017 19:54

In the old days of Corrie we viewers were intelligent enough to realise that the characters were played by actors, who were earning more money than most. Some of us even realised that Violet Carson, who played Ena Sharples also played the piano(as herself) in the radio programme Have a Go.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 07/11/2017 20:40

I don't think that's true at all, Smeaton - I am really enjoying the old episodes on ITV3 - I have them on series link. I appreciate the more realistic portrayal of everyday life and the conversations.

Bufin - the alopecia wig made me laugh out loud. They really think the viewers are stupid. And £80000 for all the machines in the factory, the stock and the rebuild? Yeah right. Bring back Mike Baldwin.

I think Erica should have bought into the Rovers and run it with Liz. Her character was wasted.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 07/11/2017 22:43

That would have been a brilliant idea House.

Akire · 07/11/2017 23:54

But they own factory right? SO AT very least need to pay for a new roof and other things beforenxqn sell it? What’s happening to the gym? Disnt Phelon start rebuilding it or was that something else? Did Kev rebuild th second garage after fire or do they not show any more?

Brahumbug · 08/11/2017 08:09

The £80,000 payout for the factory is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard. They would be lucky if that covered the roof! How can they retire to Spain on that? That wouldn't even buy a flat, let alone leave them with money to live on.

Wormulonian · 08/11/2017 09:12

The once wonderful Brookside was brought down by their stories becoming more and more ridiculous and a loss of focus on the great characterisation that had marked it in the early days. I don't watch EE's but read their viewership has fallen and that people are fed up with unremitting betrayal and criminal behavior. I think Corrie could be in serious trouble, especially with moving to 6 episodes a week.

They need to weave stories together better and run with them to a conclusion. Viewers need to be more certain of the landscape - who lives where etc. When was the last time we saw inside Fizz's house? I totally agree with Akire - did Kev keep on the bigger garage, how/when was it repaired? Is Zeedan still struggling to repay his grandada's debt to Dev? It makes it hard to become invested.

Calm down, be brave enough to have longer gossip and tea table scenes. Focus on the stronger characters and dump the dross. Last year when Fizz and TY had money issues that could have been a good story reflecting modern life but TY sold a bit of scrap and Kev paid off Ty#s payday loan - job done. Crap.

eddiemairswife · 08/11/2017 11:27

Yes, and Fiz's idea of a massage business has been forgotten; we don't know what happened to the classes she was attending.

Housewife2010 · 08/11/2017 11:38

Every character seems to have a deep dark secret now. I have enjoyed the Phelan story but Coronation Street has done ott murder stories before with Richard Hillman. The problem is that there is so much nastiness now. As well as Phelan there is Fiz/Tyrone frauding their friends, Todd & Adam's dodginess, Anna's violent outbursts and even the vicar has a secret past. It is fine having a shocking story but there should be some cheeriness too. The Rovers is the hub of the street. Liz & Steve brought warmth and humour to it. ( Erica with Liz would have been great and would have brought lots of positive publicity by having two landladies. ) I love Peter but he is wasted in the Rovers with the dull cardigan wearing Toyah. Eileen used to be great fun with her droll putdowns to Steve and Lloyd in the cab office. Does she have any friends now other than the people she lives with? Of newer characters I like Moira who adds humour in the great Coronation Street tradition.

scrabbler3 · 08/11/2017 17:03

I like Moira too, although the actress is very pretty and they're having trouble "dowdying" her.

I would love Stephanie Cole to return as Roy's mum.

MusicToMyEars800 · 08/11/2017 20:05

I am starting to get annoyed with Mary as a character, she used to be a light heated addition to the show and add a bit of comedy, but now she is annoying!

Tbh I'd forgotten all about some of the storylines some of you mentioned, goes to show that I just can't pay much interest to it, because of the silly stories, And now they are rolling with Pat torturing Anna again and trying to frame her for pushing Seb off of the ladder Hmm

LineysRum · 08/11/2017 20:08

The Mary story is bizarre. Chesney is so bloody boring. The factory is boring. I did some work instead on my accounts.

MusicToMyEars800 · 08/11/2017 20:14

Chesney is very drippy, I can see Sinead going back to Daniel, I saw how she looked at him when he was with Joseph Grin

Corrie is all very boring right now.. I agree that Erica leaving was a bad idea, why on earth they put her with Dev and then put the fling with Kev in there too is beyond me, I loved her friendship with Liz and Mary.

Akire · 08/11/2017 20:57

Glad chez finally put foot down. He still looks and acts about 15. No reason why others can’t get own place- before actory closer was three adults working surely afford a flat.
Same with washing machine 5 adults each pay £10 a week each in a month it’s paid for. They spend more that in the pub.
