As you were ladies...

OP posts:
ShirleyPhallus · 01/10/2017 09:29

Emile Sande is the star today

Nooooo really?! I was hoping we had got rid of her after the absolute over-exposure that was the Olympics

GrouchyKiwi · 01/10/2017 09:37

I read the spoiler because my stupid anxiety can't deal with results in real time right now. Promise to never give away a thing!

Will give the show a swerve tonight, if Sande is the singer, though I might tune in for the pro dance at the beginning.

PoppyPopcorn · 01/10/2017 09:42

It's ALWAYS Emile Sande. Or Shania Twain. Or some other 90s star trying to resurrect their career.

I like the new judge, she is clearly an expert and her criticism is constructive. I do think Bruno is copying her marks though as nearly every dancer got the same marks last night from both of them!

ElspethFlashman · 01/10/2017 09:48

I don't think Charlotte will go. She just had a brain fart on Wk 2, it's forgiveable and she's got potential. And it was Brendan's fault anyway for keeping that bloody spin in when it clearly wasn't going well.

I dislike Brendan - he said it went fine all week when she herself said it failed 9/10 times, he's always been a defensive bristly arse.

I think the Rev has got to go. He just can't dance! It's ridiculous!

ElspethFlashman · 01/10/2017 09:50

Since Monkseal pointed out that during scoring Darcey shoots filthy daggers at Craig's score, but then proceeds to score exactly ONE point more.....it's all I can see.

PoppyPopcorn · 01/10/2017 09:52

The problem with Charlotte is that she is tall, and elegant, and looks as if she is the "type" to be great.

TheSassyAssassin · 01/10/2017 09:52

Am with you on that one Elspeth, all the faux stage gasps did my head in last night!

ImListening · 01/10/2017 10:10

I just wish they would stop pretending that the show is live on Sunday night - the vast majority of viewers know it isn’t. We aren’t idiots.

Usually someone gives it away during Sunday who has gone. This Sunday I’m on my own - so I can watch tonight as if it’s live!

Riversleep · 01/10/2017 10:17

I agree with you about Brendan Elspeth. He's my least favourite pro now. He's so defensive and twattish when the choreography was his fault, and the scoring was broadly fair.

PoppyPopcorn · 01/10/2017 10:18

Indeed - Sunday is the "day off" for the celebs and pro dancers. Susan Calman was tweeting this morning about the long drive back to Glasgow and how she was back filming in BBC Scotland this morning. I suppose the reason they don't do the results show live is that it would be very late - and SCD has a high proportion of kids watching. I wouldn't let DD stay up to 11pm to watch.

herecomesthsun · 01/10/2017 10:20

link to Louis Theroux documentary here about Debbie's ballet company, from 2001.

chocoholic1234 · 01/10/2017 10:21

So many went wrong last night! I know they put the better dancers on later to try to keep people's attention away from the X factor, but I also think they score the later dancers higher than they would have done if they had gone on earlier (definitely in week 1). Hopefully it will even out, but it did seem to unfairly advantage Davood over Gemma. But then I just don't get the hype over Davood at all.

I voted for my favourite 'at risk' people - those in the middle / top of the lower leaderboard (Susan & Chizzy), and Charlotte because while she's not great, she doesn't deserve to be bottom just yet. My prediction is Simon & Brian to Dance off - not great dancers and low fan base, with Brian to go as long as Simon nails the end of his routine this time.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 01/10/2017 10:23

I don't like all the theming and faffing. It's fun in a theme week, but I don't think every dance needs it!

I wonder about their stamina too. Look at something like - nobody does a pretty solid 1m30 dancing now!

ilovesooty · 01/10/2017 10:44

Thanks everyone for the narrative. I missed last night but looking forward to tonight.

callmeadoctor · 01/10/2017 11:00

Wow! Looking at Erin and Austins dance, it is so different now. All props and telling a "story" nowadays. I would love it to go back to how it was.

ElspethFlashman · 01/10/2017 11:14

I was channelling Len during Chizzys dance. "All that faffin' abaht up there and all that fannyin' abaht down there......not enough achal DAHHHHNCEEN!"

CaveMum · 01/10/2017 11:32

The was too much faffing about in all the dances. The only dance that requires faff is the Charleston.

I hope Shirley continues to be critical of the dancers and their choreography. I can only assume that her blip over Simon's dance was due to a personal connection to the music. I can't see her as a Liverpool fan, but as she said a lot of people connect to the song for many different reasons. She did look to be whispering something in Simon's ear as she hugged him.

FernetBranca · 01/10/2017 11:32

Lol, DD and I said exactly the same last night, that now Len isn't around people seem to think they can get away with FAFFING. She and I are eagle eyed for a bit of faffing but there were some extremely blatant bits of it last night!

MoonriseKingdom · 01/10/2017 11:33

Wow - that Austin and Erin dance was brilliant!

CaveMum · 01/10/2017 11:44

I'm sure the producers must put pressure on the Pros to choreograph something that "tells a story" but it's the dance itself that does the story-telling, not the faffing about preamble!

Perhaps the Judges need to say "you're allowed a maximum of 10 seconds of faff at the start then bloody well get on with the dancing or you will be docked points!"

PoppyPopcorn · 01/10/2017 11:56

I can't see her as a Liverpool fan

She's from that neck of the woods though, many people from Merseyside feel a strong connection to Liverpool/Everton even if they're not football fans and Simon tweeted earlier in the day that the song was chosen as a tribute to the 96.

ChoccyJules · 01/10/2017 12:19

Got carried away and booked tix to see Brendan's stage show in March Grin I took my Mum two years ago and this time hope to take DD1, if she fancies it.

dalek · 01/10/2017 12:19

I am no expert but these are my thoughts.

Lots of people seemed more nervous last night.

Really felt for Charlotte - you could see she was worried about that spin all the way through.

Thought Aston was under marked - unlike a lot of people on here I loved it.

Liked Debbie McGee's dance - love the Viennese Waltz anyway - but I just can't warm to her - she's so keen to tell us how naughty she is - trying so hard to be cool.

Thought Alexandra was bloody brilliant.

Judges scores seemed all over the place.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 01/10/2017 12:32

The thing about faffing is that for unfit contestants or those with terrible memory for steps, 30 seconds of faffing might be their only hope for producing something even vaguely watchable without collapsing. I think they should be allowed to do it if they need to but the judges should penalise them on marks.

CaveMum · 01/10/2017 12:35

I've been You Tubing Shirley Grin There are some cracking videos of her dancing (including several where she's over done the fake tan a lot in true 80s style!) But two in particular that I loved are this one of her dancing a Rumba at a fairly recent demo/lecture
