As you were ladies...

OP posts:
Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 21:17

Thanks Cavemum.

Bejazzled · 08/10/2017 21:17

It's just so lazy-lemming to immediately throw about accusations of 'isms' when it's obvious the worst dancers have gone out of the show.
Disappointing, really disappointing.

Loving Susan's enthusiasm and voted for her, Aston and Debbie. So gay, black and older 🙄

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 21:19

bonfire don't forget Colin Jackson, Denise Lewis, Martin Offiah, Ricky Whittle, Chelsea Heeley, Natalie Gumede and Frankie Bridge who all finished in the top 3 of their respective Series.

Yes I've been on Wiki!

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 21:20

Sorry, Martin Offiah was 4th in series 1.

augustusglupe · 08/10/2017 21:21

Of course it’s not racial or homophobic. Does anyone in all honesty think that!? I voted to keep in Gemma because she’s good and I really like her and Brian because I thought he was vastly improved this week. I didn’t vote for Ruth because she gives me the rage and I really don’t know why. I also dislike her husband intensely, not because he’s a fat Irishman, but because he’s a knob!

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 21:22

In fact, of the 14 Series to date only 3 (Series 1, 6 and 8) did not have a POC in the top 3.

digerd · 08/10/2017 21:24

Debbie has gorgeous legs and feet but her upper body in ballroom hold lacks the elegance needed specially her shoulders.
The Jive may be her worst dance, though.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 21:26

Whatshouldmyusernamebe

Also, I'm pretty sure Brendan called Shirley "My Dear" (!) - how patronising is that? Even Bruno told him to be more respectful.. . and the day that Bruno Tonioni is the Voice of Reason surely signals The End Of Civilisation As We Know It.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 21:28

Patronising wanker. I loathe Brendan.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 21:28

I also dislike her husband intensely, not because he’s a fat Irishman, but because he’s a knob!

Seconded. All in favour, say "Aye".

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 21:31

Why is she with him! Ruth I mean.

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 08/10/2017 21:33

Just popping in to say I voted for a disabled man, a black man and a gay woman, so no discrimination from me.

CaveMum, why did you include Frankie Bridge in that list?

Theromanempire · 08/10/2017 21:38

I was wondering the same. Is Frankie Bridge a POC Hmm?

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 08/10/2017 21:42

My gut feeling is that if you graphed all the performers’ public votes vs their quality of dance then on average the black dancers (not POC as a whole) have had less than their fair share of the votes. When you combine people who were robbed in the final (Natalie, Colin) and people who’ve been repeatedly saved in the bottom two because they didn’t really deserve to be there in the first place in dance ability (Jamelia, Simon, Heather) then I reckon black contestants were overrepresented. You can never prove it of course because there’s always a reason for each specific case (Natalie was a ringer, Darren Gough had huge narrative momentum, Jamelia said that thing about fat women). And Tameka and Chizzy and Melvin weren’t very good dancers (but they weren’t the worst dancers).

Of course there’s now a socking great counterexample in Ore who beat a better dancer fair and square on the public vote alone, but I still reckon on the history that white or mixed race performers have a slight edge in terms of access to the general public’s dialling fingers over black contestants.

Gay contestants OTOH, no evidence of that. With the exception of Colin who suffered from being in the closet so he had to sit there and take veiled homophobic jibes about airy fairy dancing, the GBP have always been happy to vote for gay men over and above their objective dance ability (Julian, Russell, Scott Mills for heaven sake). And it’s proven on umpteen other reality shows that the GBP are more than happy to vote for gay blokes. The Rev just suffered from being in a death slot and up against two much better comedy contestants on the night plus an excellent comedy number from Alijaz.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 21:42

No idea - she could do SO much better.

He wouldn't even let her have a dog (this was about three years ago).

He's always been a smug Irish git!

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 08/10/2017 21:43

Fuck, no Never Can Say Goodbye, no points for me. What was Rev's exit song?

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 21:48

Sorry, I was having a brain-fart over Frankie. No idea why I included her! Entirely my fault.

ilovesooty · 08/10/2017 21:50

It was "I Had the Time of My Life"

MrsJayy · 08/10/2017 21:53

Urm I think Frankie Bridge is just olive skinned and likes a tan i don't think it is anything to do with her ethnicity

Petalflowers · 08/10/2017 21:54

The best dancer on the show is black, ie, Oti, and Susan has a huge following.

Chipstick10 · 08/10/2017 21:56

I have a friend in the business shall we say, well not in front of the camera but behind. Started as a researcher and now a producer. She says Mr Holmes is so so nice to those lower down the rank. The young and apprentices. Also helped a friend of hers who was suffering mentally. For this Iook at him in a different light

Chipstick10 · 08/10/2017 21:57

Is Frankie Bridge mixed race then ?

MrsJayy · 08/10/2017 22:00

I like Eamon I don't think he is a knob.

Petalflowers · 08/10/2017 22:04

I quite like Eamonn, although he can be slightly annoying at times. I quite like the programme Eamonn and Ruth do together when they investigate the rich and famous lifestyle. They seem to,have quite an endearing relationship.

Clawdy · 08/10/2017 22:10

They were both poor, but at least Simon did the occasional dance step, whilst the Rev was just moving dramatically round the floor! Like him, but he had to go.
