As you were ladies...

OP posts:

They were also both crap, why should the public vote for one legged black lesbians in a dance competition just to make up a quota? I'm voting for Susan but she is trying to dance, and I like her personality generally and had never heard of Rev Richard and Chizzy beofre they appeared on Strictly. I'm not doing a lesbian sympathy vote.
I hate the ringers though and do think folk with previous proper dance training should be excluded.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 20:13

Followed your example SoupDragon - aaaah! The Good Old Days . . . .

Ed was SO entertaining.

And I agree that the Rev (though rather creepy), always seemed to be having a good time. And I like to see the contestants enjoying themselves even if they're the only ones that are

FuzzyCustard · 08/10/2017 20:14

I had to really think about the minorities comment! Surely no one bases their vote on diversity issues? I certainly vote on dancing ability, entertainment value and lack of ringer-ness.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 20:14

Or have a handicap like in horse racing.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2017 20:15

I don't pay any attention to the sexual orientation or colour of the contestants. That would be weird.

SoupDragon · 08/10/2017 20:17

Ed was crap but threw himself into everything with gusto and good humour. I had high hopes that Rev Richard was going to do the same. He certainly went into the Flash routine with gusto!

Hepzibar · 08/10/2017 20:18

Gracious and quite moving speech from the Rev. Except - no idea why he would thank Wardrobe, they didn't do him any favours. Neither did make-up with that amateurish face paint. @SchadenfreudePersonified agree - looks like fancy dress that I'd be ashamed to send the DC's in.

ellenanora5 · 08/10/2017 20:18

I was hoping by some miracle the Rev would stay just so Simon would go, he looked ridiculous, more so than the others, and Shirley's obvious favouritism is going to make me dislike him even more.

I'm rooting for Gemma and Debbie and Joe to get to the final.

CaretakerToNuns · 08/10/2017 20:21

Well last series the first three boots were POC, followed by the 70 year old and the American, now this series the first two boots are a black woman and a gay man. It's not just a coincidence.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 20:22

Is Shirley fwcourung Simin because they are both from Liverpool? How ridiculous.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 20:22

Favouring Simon

KurriKurri · 08/10/2017 20:26

I prett much missed the whoe dance off show (phone kept going - DD getting me to look up train times for her)

So missed Rev's graciousness, missed whether there were any snidey comment from Brendan or Shirley.
On the plus side I also missed seeing Simon's Buzz Lightyear costume again. ( A white onesie and a balaclava do not Buzz Lightyear make - did someone allow Bruno to go snorting his way into wardrobe last week ? )

Sad rev has gone - but not that sad, Susan is a better comedy act and you don't need loads of comedy dancers. Ed Balls was the man - I miss him.

Hepzibar · 08/10/2017 20:27

Caretaker the Rev's gone because he didn't dance, didn't improve one iota, his costume and makeup were dire - did him no favours whatsoever. Couldn't understand why were his trolleys half mast? Wardrobe must hate him (and Simon)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 20:27

To be fair Nuns - the black woman and the gay man were pretty poor dancers (though I would have preferred to see Charlotte and Simon go- they are also rubbish, and less personable).

But it's not as though the black woman and the gay man were amazing hoofers . . . (and as I (mistakenly) thought Simon was also a gay man, when you said that the Rev was a minority group, I thought you meant Christian).

Hepzibar · 08/10/2017 20:28

Ed Balls improved, sadly the Rev did not.

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 20:28

If the public were voting for who should leave then I could buy that arguement Caretaker, but as they're voting for who should stay I can't.

There are a lot of couples to vote for at this stage, no one is saying "I'll vote for everyone except the gay/black/disabled ones". The public pick at most two or three that they like, for whatever reason, and vote for them.

Bearbehind · 08/10/2017 20:35

It unfair to say it's discrimination.

The fact is there are more personable, popular characters and you vote for who you want to stay not who you want to leave.

Theromanempire · 08/10/2017 20:35

So did anyone else count how long Simon and Karen were out of hold halfway through their dance tonight? Far far longer than 10 seconds Hmm and this was just after Craig had explained this never before mentioned 10 second rule. Funny how nobody mentioned it last night until Debbie danced!

SoupDragon · 08/10/2017 20:36

Well last series...

... the winner was a black man.

digerd · 08/10/2017 20:40

Simon does have a certain something - a presence that caught my eye on the intro dance. But his costume this week was really awful and did him no favours.

Charlotte must produce some magic next week or she will go - she certainly looks the part but is it nerves or just lack of dance talent.
Think Brendan looked ashamed of himself and promised not to shout his mouth off again. He was so relieved he had not been in the bottom 2 and sent home.

Hope Gemma continues to improve - I was very impressed with her yesterday.

Whatshouldmyusernamebe · 08/10/2017 20:43

Can someone tell me what happened with Brendan yesterday. I missed it.

cowgirlsareforever · 08/10/2017 20:50

Rev Richard's outfit was contrived to make him look as daft as possible. Once the show tries to make people look daft it, and they lose their charm.

CaveMum · 08/10/2017 20:59

Whatshouldmyusernamebe, basically Shirley criticised Charlotte saying that she had rise and fall during her Tango (which should not be there) and Brendan gave her back chat and disagreed.

CeeBeeBee · 08/10/2017 21:02

Rev Rich reminded me of Dru from Despicable Me 3 with that wig.

Neither of them were particularly better in their second performance. Simon's steps just seemed very stiff and posture alignment wasn't good either.

I want Daviod and Nadiya to do a ballroom dance next week as there is too much emphasis on sex appeal and gimmicks. They had a lot of potential even with "Staying alive" as their song but the final dance looked nothing like a samba.

bonfireheart · 08/10/2017 21:11

Those who think strictly is "racist" I say Louis Smith, alesha Dixon, Mark ramprakash and last year's winner Ore. that doesn't include those that came very close, off the top of my head - Simon Webb, Anita Rani.
