I already feel nauseous at the idea of Brian doing the rumba. Shock

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 03/10/2017 23:43

Is the link wrong? It says Brian is doing AS not rumba. You can't do a rumba dressed as a scarecrow, surely?! Also a friend of Dorothy wouldn't be interested in Dorothy...

CeeBeeBee · 03/10/2017 23:59

Thought Brian was doing American Smooth?

Charlotte had better be good this week because it's likely she will have only got through with sympathy votes.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 04/10/2017 01:36

I thought Brian was supposed doing a Bond-themed rumba. How odd.

There are some nice ones Maryz. Not many, I admit though! was a week 4.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 04/10/2017 01:56

Ruth and Anton are doing the Bond-based rumba but I made the mistake polkadots of thinking there were two Bond numbers (I thought Brian had quipped about Amy being a Welsh Bond girl in the results show but I clearly wasn't listening properly). So in my head we were getting Brian Bond vs Beaky Bond (Tony Beak) which I was quite looking forward to.
For your eyes only vs Diamonds are forever.
Alas, not to be.
A smooth scarecrow isn't doing it for me. Nor is a cowboy Simon.
Not that keen on Eliza Doolittle for Alex either. But I thought that about Daisy's Mary Poppins and was pleasantly surprised.

Theromanempire · 04/10/2017 06:50

Oh I got that Brian was doing a Rumba from Monkseal's review of the results show Confused but I guess having 2 Bone Rumba's would be odd so the producers have obviously decided to spare Amy the horror Wink

Theromanempire · 04/10/2017 06:51

*Bond- not Bone Blush

GrouchyKiwi · 04/10/2017 08:57

I am so glad that Brian doesn't have rumba after all, though Ruth & Anton will be bad enough. I remember Cherie & James' rumba. Probably the only one I've enjoyed on the show.

ElspethFlashman · 04/10/2017 09:00

Ruth + rhumba? Ugh, that's gonna be tough to watch. She's as stiff as a poker.

awaynboilyurheid · 04/10/2017 10:05

She will just preen and stand and Anton will dance round her, she will think she's fantastic and be surprised that the judges don't agree... no change this week then.

MoonriseKingdom · 04/10/2017 10:29

I rather liked the Anton and Katie Dehrem rumba!

cowgirlsareforever · 04/10/2017 11:03

The Anton and Katie rumba was amazing. She was a wonderful dancer. I'm not sure Ruth's will be as good, but the best of luck to them. I wouldn't want to do a rumba in a million years.

RhiannonOHara · 04/10/2017 11:12

I don't think ANTON is that good at rumba, so good luck to Ruth is all I can say!

It is a bit Hmm Debbie getting Quickstep after a not-very-Latin-Latin and another ballroom. They should go back to everyone doing either the same Latin or the same ballroom every week –it would avoid accusations of fixing, and you can compare the performances more meaningfully.

DREADING Brian's Argentine Tango. He should have gone last week.

CaveMum · 04/10/2017 11:39

Awww, well I LOVE rumba! If it's danced properly it's a beautiful dance. Strictly has cast it as a "sexy" dance but really it's a dance about love - the two are not necessarily the same thing.

I've posted a video of what a Rumba should look like when danced well before. I'm out and about right now so can't dig out the link but will post it when I get back home.

I'll be watching them all with interest this year as I'm taking a Rumba teaching exam in December so need to sharpen my eye

Colin and Erin's rumba was beautiful. Arlene (God rest her Strictly soul*) said it was 'smooth as silk'. Exactly how it should be.

*I know she hasn't died but you know what I mean Grin

ppeatfruit · 04/10/2017 12:09

Ruth looked better in the Charleston and she didn't do too badly. Not a poker like Judy was. Grin

Couldn't agree more. The rumba is tedious when danced by most of the celebs, but when you get the occasional good one it's absolutely compelling. Ah, Colin and Erin, and Arlene on the panel, those good ol' days

Thanks for the Steph Irish jig. I'm even keener to see her on Strictly now, and I'd certainly go for a Steph/Brenda combo (though Steph/Joe Varney would still be my first choice).

I'm a bit gutted to announce that I'm going to be away, proper out of the country away next week, so I'll miss movie night. And whilst I sigh for ye olden days of just getting on with it-no-faffery, I'm also a sucker for show tunes. I'll have to be absent from this thread and Monkseal until I'm all caught up which could take quite a while!

CaveMum · 04/10/2017 13:26

Oh I'm glad people like my links Maryz, I do sometimes wonder if people are thinking "Oh no, she's at it again!" when I put them up Blush.

This is my favourite Rumba clip anyway, and I'll dig out that AT clip just for you again Wink

CaveMum · 04/10/2017 13:27

The street AT:

KittyVonCatsington · 04/10/2017 18:37

Erin's outfit in that Rumba with Colin-love it!!

FuzzyCustard · 04/10/2017 18:42

Just watching Debbie on IT2 and I'm a bit annoyed.
ZB: "what's it like being at the top?"
DMG: "Ooooh well I never thought it would be us giggle giggle"

You're a ringer. You're a professionally trained dancer. Stop being so innocent and cute (yuck)

( I liken it to me being a classically trained singer - doesn't mean I can't do pop/gospel/folk etc etc)

CaveMum · 04/10/2017 20:54

The issue with Rumba is that because it is slow it is very exposing - it's very easy to see foot work and foot position faults, as well as timing issues.

It's also very much the woman's dance - it's all about making her look good, so the male celebs can suffer, particularly if their Pro choreographs a routine that makes them look good whilst the man effectively just poses and she (as Len used to say) flatulates about Wink
