What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

I like it when they do things like Jaffa cakes and fondant fancies, things that are usually shop bought.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 25/10/2017 23:13

Mmmm... Fondant fancies....

Floellabumbags · 26/10/2017 00:13

I've had a turnaround. Sophie and Stephen showed vulnerability this week and I'm liking them both now.

choccyp1g · 26/10/2017 10:46

I'd like it if they sneaked a shop bought one into the technical challenge, would have to artfully battered to make it look hand-made.

In the earlier rounds the judges wouldn't notice if there were say eight plates instead of 7

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 26/10/2017 10:57

I was puzzled by Sophie's showstopper too, until watched a repeat - think this was down to poor camera angles.

Boulshired · 26/10/2017 12:57

I think they praised Sophie to save their own face otherwise they had a semi final showstopper that the bakers were not capable of. If Stephen’s had of worked Sophie’s would have been called for what it was a nice cake with broken bit of meringue glued to it.

Laiste · 26/10/2017 19:16

Another one pleased we're not going to subjected to Stacey in the final.

Don't actually mind who wins out of Kate and Steven and Sophie. All three are pleasant, all three have worked hard and not pissed anyone else of. Wouldn't eye roll at seeing any them on a spin off program. imagine Stacey popping up everywhere!!

If pushed i guess i'm rooting for Sophie.

pfrench · 26/10/2017 19:22

Compare kate's 'showstopper' wonky rainbow stuck in 2 pavlovas, with the amazing peacock made by candice last year... If you can! The standard is really low this year, and at least 2 of the semi-finalists shouldn't have been there. Paul explaining how they needed to look back at previous weeks contradicts all past judging (including this series), where they've banged on about being judged on current performance only.

Series jumped the shark when Stacey didn't go despite leaving paper in the pie. That doesn't make her one of the UK's best bakers. I'm better than that!

Graphista · 26/10/2017 19:23

Stacey - yes nasty smug face she is likely regretting I hope.

Meringue showstopper was bloody tough - I'd never heard of miserables cake and I worked with a Belgian chef once!

Never disliked Steven he's just so boring!!

Graphista · 26/10/2017 19:25

Wow she really doesn't think she deserved to go eh? Hmm

buggerthebotox · 26/10/2017 20:53

I thought Stacey was insufferably smug. And a drama queen with all her huffing and puffing.

I'm surprised Steven didn't foresee his wilting chocolate basket.

I think Sophie did quite well to improvise her meringue by sealing it with icing.

I don't care who wins.

looking forward to Stacey on Extra Slice tonightSmile

Graphista · 26/10/2017 20:59

The fake self deprecation yeugh

MyGuideJools · 26/10/2017 23:14

Only just caught up with this weeks. I'm glad stacey has gone. Did she say at the end "I can go back to being a good mum now" ?Hmm
Will catch up with extra slice tomorrow

Laiste · 27/10/2017 07:55

My theory (and the DCs) is that they keep the more ... controversial characters in these sort of programs as long as they can get away with it to keep everyone entertained.

It's awful to admit it but if there was no one to hate they were all exactly as likeable as each other it'd be boring.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/10/2017 09:11

Anyone watched an extra slice? There is something a bit strange about Stacey, what's with all the hair playing? I don't think we've seen the person she really is, it's like some persona she has adopted but is poor at acting it out and a poorly chosen persona at that.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 27/10/2017 09:55

Yes the French chef guy pointed out the obvious wrt Stevens basket-that he knew it was got so should have left it in the fridge for longer! I didn't enjoy extra slice as much this week. It might be because I thought the comedian guy was a bit off for some reason.

WaxOnFeckOff · 27/10/2017 10:14

Comedian guy was overly leery (and not very funny). I wouldn't like that if he was like that to a woman so it's equally off to me to be like that to a guy/guys.

buggerthebotox · 27/10/2017 10:20

Last night's Slice was weird, wasn't it? That comedian guy was strange and not at all funny. Who is he?

myguide I thought Stacey said that too. I thought I'd imagined it!

What a dickish thing to say!

And glad the French guy stated the bloomin'obvious about Steven's chocolate basket.

bonfireheart · 27/10/2017 10:44

I haven't watched the episode yet but that was Joel Dommett. Bless him, he's always there to be the pretty face and is more suited to kids/young people shows.

buggerthebotox · 27/10/2017 10:52

Tbh I don't think these "celebrities" add much to the show anyway. Different if they're something to do with the programme or baking, maybe. I've never heard of most of them.

I hope Noel comes on though.....Blush

choccyp1g · 27/10/2017 11:16

What Stacey didn't seem to realise was that it was a hard decision because two of the contestants were equally BAD.

Taffeta · 27/10/2017 11:18

The Stacey hate has bypassed me —which is really unusual for me—. I think they’re all coming across a bit meh - but as much as Kate’s the one I’d want to have a drink with IRL I suspect the others are better, more consistent bakers.

Benoit Blin looked really bored last night, Sandi almost didn’t seem to be the presenter of the actual show - I want insights etc to the bakes, contestants etc but is it only Noel capable of this? Does Sandi actually talk to the contestants at all? I get the feeling she’s not that into it, except when she blubs when they leave which is weird. And Joel .... oh dear. What was that letch over Stephen?

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/10/2017 11:45

Am sure Noel will be using his Mr Spoon and creepy voice to scare trick or treaters. Shock

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 27/10/2017 11:47

Whoops that s/b Halloween Shock

bonfireheart · 27/10/2017 11:47

Joel (straight) is nearly always pretending to be gay, no idea why he thinks it's hilarious. Wish he'd just be himself or just come out properly.
