New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

It's always nice to catch a glimpse of Goran. Couldn't agree more! I love Goran, my all time favourite player. I think he'll be a good coach for Raonic too.
I agree re Isner. I find him boring. I don't know why he doesn't come to the net more, as he's actually a good volleyer.
The women's tournament in Miami sounds good too, but sadly we don't have BT Sport so I've not seen any of it. It's annoying that Sky don't show the WTA as well.

JaneJeffer · 27/03/2018 23:58

I can only watch on Sky so it's good for me at the moment. Good match between Coric and Shapovolav. Nice to see the youngsters coming up, especially the nice ones like those two.

Raahh · 30/03/2018 18:52

Oh rubbish- Delpo has lost the first set in his match 6-1 to Isner. That's not good.

Vamos Juan!

OP posts:
Raahh · 30/03/2018 19:45

And Juan has lost. Sad

I suppose he has had a good run.

I hope Zverev wins his match. i don't know where Isner has come from , this tournament, really!

1 set all in the Zverev/Isner match.

Really want Sascha to win it.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 01/04/2018 23:42

It was a great match, especially the second set.

I though Isner was wrecked halfway through the third but he was so determined. It was lovely to see him so happy to win and he said it would have been tough to come back from if he'd lost.

Sascha was so gracious in defeat (apart from smashing up his racquet when he started to lose it Grin which he threw into the crowd much to the delight of the woman who caught it).

Would not have predicted that win.

Raahh · 02/04/2018 11:28

Jane thank you for that. I obviously couldn't watch it. I'm quite pleased for Isner- it's nice to spread the titles around a bit I suppose. Grin

I'm very nervous about the clay season- Rafa has a lot to lose (points wise, anyway) and whilst keeping healthy and injury free is his main priority, after a good year, he always seems to suffer a dip when it comes to defending it all. Plus he's playing Davis Cup.

Be interesting to see who steps up now- Goffin is usually a contender on clay.

Horrible weather here today. Hasn't stopped raining. And the dishwasher is broken so we have it in pieces in the kitchen. Happy Easter Monday Grin.

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2018 12:54

They mentioned that Goffin has an injury, maybe his hip, I'm not sure.

Raining here as well Sad

Raahh · 02/04/2018 14:48

Jane that's a blow about Goffin. Sad. He's never really recovered his form since last year.

Bloody hips- everyone seems to be suffering. Apart from Roger...that's a bit suspicious.Grin

I did see the other day that Rafa will be wearing yellow in Monte Carlo/ Barcelona.

I am worried about this. Over the last few years, he hasn't played well play well in yellow Grin

But if it doesn't have sleeves, I'm happy (but I think it does have sleeves).

Outfit choice is of course very important Grin

JaneJeffer · 02/04/2018 16:55

Rafa would look good in a bin bag but imagine how sweaty that would be Grin

John Isner had a variety of colours of a stripy top in Florida including yellow.

Raahh · 02/04/2018 18:16

Oh, yes, a sweaty bin bag would probably not be a good look. Grin

Couple of days late, but Agassi has left Djok's coaching team. They 'agreed to disagree' a lot , it apparently. It's all continuing to go a bit pear shaped in the Novak camp.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 05/04/2018 15:44

Nothing seems to be going right for Djok lately.

I hope Stan's knee is getting better.

I watched the Sports Relief sketch on YouTube. I can't believe they did that to Andy! He could have freaked out. I loved him knowing all the Spice Girls lyrics Grin

Raahh · 05/04/2018 16:29

Jane I thought the Sport Relief sketch was very funny. Very clever. I liked the 'Outnumbered' one he did years ago, by this one was better.

Djok has got rid of Stepanek too. It seems wrong to feel like this is the end for him- given that both Rafa and Roger went through rough patches- but this feels different. He would probably have been better off (given his career so far) living in a time when retiring at the top of your game was ok, and there was no pressure to continue into your late 30's. If he could turn the clock back to just after winning RG in 2016...

And ,yy, I hope Stan is recovering - he was doing so well , the first half of last year- all these injuries have been a nightmare for the big names.

I really wanted to watch the Spain/Germany Davis cup tie.

Should be quite good tomorrow, too, Rafa will be playing Zverev.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/04/2018 10:58

I'm glad to see that so far Rafa has the upper hand against Zverev- this is one of the toughest matches he's faced recently really. and it's 6-1 in the first set.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 08/04/2018 13:37

Just checked the scores and I see Rafa seems to have won fairly easily.

ladymelbourne1926 · 08/04/2018 13:49

Did anyone catch Rafas match earlier? Glad to see he won easily 😊

Raahh · 08/04/2018 13:50

jane it did look that way. although I saw the stats, his first serve is his usual week link.
It's an important win for him, Davis Cup aside, beating a top 5 player. before this, I read an interview Becker gave, he really thought Sascha had a chance of an upset.

not sure how it will go for Spain now- Ferrer is playing Kohlshreiber. David has had some good results this year and pught to be tbe favourite on claybut Philip has a good chance.

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2018 13:58

Seppi/Chardy match cancelled but I don't know why. I'm just keeping an eye on the scores.

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2018 14:01

Seems to be a battle!

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2018 14:02

And tie-break. Wish I could watch it.

JaneJeffer · 08/04/2018 14:09

Ferrer has the first set.

Raahh · 08/04/2018 14:11

Oh good! I had to start the neglected ironing pile, so took my eyes off the scores.

I think Seppi/Chardy is cancelled because France have already won the tie, so it's a dead rubber.
