New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

I'm thrilled for Rafa. Vamos.Grin. Really wanted Delpo to win today. He's worked really hard to move up the rankings this year- to get this close to qualifying for London is really frustrating.

Looking forward to London, because it will be on tv, and I have been relying on watching/ getting all my scores online lately.

Paris now looks very open in the bottom half. US Open deja vu. Grin

The updated top ten makes really interesting reading this morning- especially when you compare it to last year. The main contenders then are out of action due to injury (Djok/Murray/Raonic/Wawrinka), and have -apart from Stan, who still has a reasonable points tally- have dropped a lot. Raonic (who I like a lot) has really struggled injury wise this year, after such a great year last year. And Nishikori is also absent, who is always sniffing around the top 5.

5 out of the top 10 achieve career high rankings. I expected Thiem/Zverev to be there- but I don't think even Carreno Busta himself could have predicted he would be top 10 now. Though he's had a very solid year year.

And at the end of last year- would anyone have predicted the resurgence of Roger or Rafa? I really wish I'd put a bet on Grin.

I've just seen the footage of Roger smashing his racquet yesterday- looks like Delpo wasn't the only one in a bad mood Grin.

Juan's hopes for a place in London have been given a massive boost as both Querrey and Carreno Busta lost their first round matches in Paris. If Anderson does the same , and Delpo has a good run, he is in with a chance of a least an alternate spot.

OP posts:
Raahh · 01/11/2017 15:41

And Anderson has done just that.

So it's all down to Juan. And Tsonga's results really.

And my other favourite Argentinian sadly lost to Isner- I like Diego Schwartzmen. It was a close match, given Isner's big serve. But Diego has some of the best service return stats this year.

There is over 1ft 3 inches height difference between John and DiegoGrin

(As I'm only 4ft 8, I like to support the little guy. His nickname is Peque, which means small. It's also the name of his dogGrin).

And Rafa has just won, confirming that he will definitely be the year end number 1.

Vamos

Fair play Raahh I know I can rely on you to get up to speed with what's happening Grin

Well done Rafa 🎉

I keep forgetting the tennis is on and I'm annoyed because I had the place to myself for most of the day and could have watched in peace. It's mid-term break here so DS has been hogging the telly.

Raahh · 02/11/2017 11:42

Morning Jane .I still can't 'watch' but I'm getting quite obsessed with Delpo being in LondonGrin.

He looks like he's about to beat Haase- which will take him an agonising 20 points behind Carreno Busta- which means he has to win his next match at least. Which could be against Dimitrov or Isner.
He must be exhausted though.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 02/11/2017 16:16

DS gone off to a birthday party so I've just put Isner/Dimitrov on. Seems to be a good match. Dimitrov is getting the upper hand I think.

I can't relax because I have a tiler in and I feel he will (rightly) think I am a lazy sod sitting here watching tennis in the middle of the day Grin

JaneJeffer · 02/11/2017 16:52

I didn't see much but just caught the end of the final set to see Isner had managed to win!

Raahh · 02/11/2017 17:41
Grin Well, cat amongst the pigeons - Goffin has Lost, Isner has beaten Grigor , so is Delpo more likely to beat John?both big servers, it will be the battle of the giantsGrin

JaneJeffer · 02/11/2017 17:46

Oh well done Benneteau. He's one of my faves. I might get to see him play now!

JaneJeffer · 02/11/2017 21:43

Vamos Rafa. Apparently he had the trainer out to tape up his knee. Hope he'll be ok.

Raahh · 03/11/2017 10:27

His knee has been problematic for a few weeks, I know it was strapped up in Shanghai, and harder courts are not great for him. I just hope he gets to the end of the season without causing lasting damage.

It would be crap to do so well this year, and then start next year injured.

Damn it, Rafa's had to withdraw Sad

Raahh · 03/11/2017 13:35

I've just seen this Sad

Doesn't bode well. But...is probably a good thing, as winning the tour finals for the first time is his main goal, I suppose. I just hope it isn't too bad.
No doubt the Federer camp will be happy. But I wanted Rafa to win here to equal Roger's titles this year.
Could be good for Delpo , should he beat Isner though. And I won't be torn now, over who wins the final. Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/11/2017 13:38

Worryingly, he seems to have cast doubt on whther he'll be in London too Sad

I really don't want Roger to win there.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/11/2017 14:05

But (because it makes me feel better) smug RogBot still can't take over at number 1 for ages- even if Rafa doesn't go to London and Roger wins there, (he has to win maximum points there), he will be 140 points behind. And then he's the one defending big points at the beginning of the year.

I just hope Rafa isn't out of action long for long. But also doesn't risk long term injury.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/11/2017 14:22

Delpo is losing, so my day is not going well. Sad

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 03/11/2017 14:42

Got a set each now.

Raahh · 03/11/2017 14:51

It's very stressful, watching the scores Grin

Now, if he was nice, because it's not skin of his nose, Isner would let Juan win now Grin. Although Isner has an outside chance of qualifying , if he wins the final .

Otherwise he will miss out by 20 points. Which will be hell.

Unless Rafa pulls out, of course.

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/11/2017 15:27
Sad

If Rafa withdraws from London now, and Carreno Busta ends up with the last automatic wtf spot, the finals will be a bit dull. I don't want Roger to get an easy ride.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 03/11/2017 15:32

I find it so hard to follow! Makes my head hurt like doing maths Grin

Raahh · 03/11/2017 15:40

I check a website that does it all for me. Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 03/11/2017 18:06

I was so excited about London. And now it looks like it could all be going pear shaped.

So I want Zverev or Dimitrov or Cilic to win it.

But it won't be the same if Rafa withdraws. Sad
