Midsomer Murders - Joyce Barnaby

I haven't seen Midsomer Murders for years but I watched it tonight.

I've just realised that Barnaby is there (I did notice it's a different actor!) but where's Joyce and Cully?

Barnaby has a new partner so what happened to Joyce and her terrible cooking?

He's Barnabys cousin. No Joyce and Cully I'm afraid.

Cary2012 · 22/08/2017 22:47

I much preferred the original with John Nettles.

Ahhh that makes sense, thanks.

I loved John Nettles. I preferred the older MMs. The Killings at Badger's Drift was my favourite.

Joyce was so banal. Shame she never got bumped off.

Clawdy · 23/08/2017 17:21

The "new" Barnaby and his wife look such an unlikely couple. He looks like the toddler's grandad. And he sits around at home in a suit and tie all the time! Grin

MineKraftCheese · 23/08/2017 17:28

Didn't Cully have a bit of a thing with Barnaby's sidekick, Scott? I watched it at that time and I think I fancied him Blush

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 17:46

I fancied the Welsh sidekick, in fact he's the only reason I ever watched an episode. I don't think Cully ever got her dull claws into him.

BurningGubbins · 23/08/2017 17:49

I clicked on this because I thought I'd find some kindred spirits in finding Joyce and all her fucking hobbies so aggravatingly tedious. She's so active.

YouAndMeAreGoingToFallOut · 23/08/2017 17:55

My theory is that Joyce is actually a prolific serial killer. I certainly wouldn't want to join any of her clubs as someone is always bumped off as soon as she appears on the scene.

Lunde · 23/08/2017 18:00

I wouldn't blame Joyce for being a serial killer!

Just look at the life she leads! Every time she goes out for dinner, joins a club or choir or volunteers at an event - there is a grisly murder and Tom abandons her in an instant (he almost missed Cully's wedding)

At least Sarah (wife of John Barnaby) has her own life as head of the local comp!

ArseholesOnToast · 23/08/2017 20:25

I quite fancied Troy Blush. I think Cully had a thing for/with him too. The hussy! Grin

Yes Joyce was so insipid. The perfect guise for murder!

I don't think this John Barnay and partner look like a good match for a couple either. He does look like granddad didn't he?

I think I've fancied all the sidekicks! Think that's why I've always watched it tbh.

abbey44 · 23/08/2017 20:32

I love the original MM with John Nettles - the 'new' Barnaby and wife look like a low-budget casting director's version of David and Samantha Cameron. On a rough day.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 23/08/2017 20:35

It started 20 years ago Shock. I was so young,

We were living in London then, and I was all for the move out and DH was "no way, you get murdered as soon as you move to the country" Grin

hippyhippyshake · 23/08/2017 21:04

Going against the grain! John Nettles and his excruciating laboured breaths every dialogue used to infuriate me!
I like new Barnaby's attitude to his sidekicks, he treats them much better than old Barnaby plus I find him quite attractive. Wish I was his wife😀

The Welsh sidekick mentioned above was in This Life. No that was great telly. And yes, I am old, so don't suppose many of you remember it.

Cary2012 · 23/08/2017 22:08

Now, not no....

Squeegle · 23/08/2017 22:13

Of course I remember this life. That's what I always recognise him from- Warren

This made me laugh hard Grin I can actually see a resemblance too Grin

Cary2012 · 23/08/2017 22:22

Squeegle - it was great wasn't it?

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 22:25

Grin Of course I remember This Life. I'm 40! He played Warren.

Circumlocutor · 23/08/2017 22:26

I think I've fancied all the sidekicks!

Even the first one, the really dweeby bloke?!

LilaoftheGreenwood · 23/08/2017 22:33

I reckon Cully was a recovering heroin addict, she was impossibly dull and flitted from clerical job to boring hobby to another clerical job all within ten miles of the sleepy district where her parents lived, while everyone apparently admires and encourages her as a bright young thing. She must surely have spent five years in a squat in Glasgow. And who is called Cully anyway?
