Midsomer Murders - Joyce Barnaby

I haven't seen Midsomer Murders for years but I watched it tonight.

I've just realised that Barnaby is there (I did notice it's a different actor!) but where's Joyce and Cully?

Barnaby has a new partner so what happened to Joyce and her terrible cooking?

Midsomer Murders has ruined the sound of a fox cry for me. When the sound dept. got that fox sound file out you knew a murder was afoot.

HouseOfMouse · 28/08/2017 00:06

What sort of a name was Cully anyway. Was it meant to be short for something?

Bubblysqueak · 28/08/2017 07:38

I love the theme tune.

Bubblysqueak · 28/08/2017 07:39

And I had a tear in my eye when Sykes died Blush

FiveGoMadInDorset · 28/08/2017 07:44

I always wondered what Cully's CV looked like, she had a different job each episode

Androidsdreamofelectricsheep · 28/08/2017 08:26

She was an actress, so all the other jobs were when she was 'resting'.
I didn't like the new Barnaby at first, but he has grown on me.

Crumblevision · 28/08/2017 08:31

When Cully was on the screen I wanted to throw things at the screen. Dreadful actress, and even more dreadful character. Joyce was ok in a naive innocent kind of way.

Androidsdreamofelectricsheep · 28/08/2017 08:36

Are they both related to the director?

Androidsdreamofelectricsheep · 28/08/2017 08:39

Cully is a village on Lake Geneva, where she was conceived during her parents' honeymoon.Grin Just looked it up.

TroysMammy · 28/08/2017 08:44

I named my cats Barnaby and Troy because as kittens they caused murders, figuratively speaking of course.

SoPassRemarkable · 28/08/2017 08:45

I think john Nettles just lifted his Bergerac acting skills from Jersey to Midsommer. Swapped his leather jacket for a suit and carried on. Seemed to be no difference in acting at all.

I must apologise to Jane Wymark aka Joyce Barnaby; I've just discovered that she isnt married to the former director of MM, as I was convinced I'd once read Blush

He (said director) did, however, quit the show when the new low-rent David and SamCam Barnaby took over, after making remarks about MM's 'racial diversity'.

A pearl-clutching moment for the DM Grin

Nakedavenger74 · 28/08/2017 11:14

I saw Nettles in a RSC performance of A Winter's Tale about 25 years ago. He's a proper thesp you know. He was very good and he had an excellent tan which made him look quite swoonworthy against the crisp white billowy, bell sleeve blouson he had on.... Grin

Nakedavenger74 · 28/08/2017 11:18

In the Naked household we play 'guess what job Cully's got this episode'. She was a fucking travel agent in the one we watched last week. Which was handy as Troy needed to investigate the globe trotting antics of a suspect. She was a cow wrangler once. Her CV must be 15 pages long of jobs she's held down for a about 3 weeks.

derxa · 28/08/2017 11:44

The best MM ever is definitely the one where Orlando Bloom gets killed by a pitchfork to the stomach/chest There was one where someone was killed by a very slow moving digger. We were shouting, 'Just jump out the way!'
The depiction of farming on these types of programmes is always pathetic. People seem to make a living out of five pigs and a small flock of hens which scratch about on the yard.
And the black characters who are drafted in for diversity. Sadly the countryside is still a very white place.

squoosh · 28/08/2017 11:50

There was an episode where Martine McCutcheon was killed before the opening credits had even rolled. A sign of how far her career had dipped Grin

derxa · 28/08/2017 11:59

Yes squoosh and she was killed using a cheese Grin

corythatwas · 30/08/2017 18:15

Is dd telling porkies or is there an episode where Hugh Dennis is eaten by snakes? Totally need to see this if there is.

abbey44 · 30/08/2017 18:50

Is this the one...?

I love Jason Hughes-although his character went a bit just before he left iirc!

This life-fabulous programme.

Jack Davenport, Jason Hughes, Andrew Lincoln, Ramon Tikaram!

ScaryMonstersAndSuoerCreeps · 31/08/2017 17:56

I used to play with Jack Davenport as a child. Or so my Mum tells me! Our respective fathers used to drink in Laxfield Low House and Jack and I played outside!! Grin

I saw Nettles in a RSC performance of A Winter's Tale about 25 years ago. He's a proper thesp you know.

I think I saw him in Anthony and Cleopatra about 30 years ago! I loved him in Bergerac-in fact, we still call Midsomer Murder, Bergerac!

I don't mind the new Barnabys though-I prefer Mrs Barnaby and Betty to bloody Joyce, Cully and their bloody art classes and Am Dram!
