Anyone watching?

Me - not sure what to think so far tbh. Don't think I've ever seen a drama about a current ongoing war (I probably have butnone come to mind)

Mrscaindingle · 20/08/2017 21:18

I am and was pondering starting a thread when I saw this one Grin

I've liked the look of this since I saw the trailers, what's the betting that they won't find it to be all that they were promised ?

Fekko · 20/08/2017 21:20

I think it would get me cross. We've got a new telly and there's always the risk of me throwing things at it, so best not to.

buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 21:22

I guess thatll be the point of it Mrs - off topic (already sorry!) but I really am struggling to think of any other dramas about ongoing wars. Documentaries yes, but dramas?

buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 21:24

fekko no don't damage the tv!

DigestiveMuncher · 20/08/2017 21:24

I'm watching. Really don't know what to think of it so far though.

buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 21:27

I'm wondering if, as this develops will they explore why/how these characters became radicalized

Oldowl · 20/08/2017 21:30

The head of the women's house is going to turn out to be an 'Aunt Lydia' figure.

Finding this really scary already. People really sign up to join these nutters?

OP posts:
buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 21:32

I can't get my head around the fact that this is happening now

DigestiveMuncher · 20/08/2017 21:42

How can people believe what these people preach is right. Makes me sad!

dancemom · 20/08/2017 21:43

It's making me uncomfortable and I can't vocalise why.

DigestiveMuncher · 20/08/2017 21:45

dancemom I agree!

daimbar · 20/08/2017 21:46

I'm enjoying it while finding it terrifying.

Seems unlikely the feminist doctor would not foresee she would be subjected to sexism over there!

Mrscaindingle · 20/08/2017 21:47

Buddasbelly hopefully they do explore a bit of the back stories as that's what most of us in the West don't get, why do people want to do this? Especially taking your children over there I really don't get that.

NullaG · 20/08/2017 21:50

I'm enjoying it so far. Though enjoying seems like the wrong word. I would like to understand the main characters' motivation more.

AmIthatbloodycold · 20/08/2017 21:51

I'm enjoying it too - I can't think of a better word either.

DigestiveMuncher · 20/08/2017 22:04

I'm into it now. Curious to see how it pans out.

Glitteryfrog · 20/08/2017 22:06

It's certainly interesting.

buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 22:06

I don't know if this makes me incredibly ignorant but I didn't know that ISIS prophesise Jesus returning to Jerusalem to lead them to victory. Or did I get that wrong?

As other PPs have said, i am struggling to understand why these people are going giving their traits e.g doctor women wanting to work. Is part of the radicalising telling these people that in their state they can do whatever they want?

buddhasbelly · 20/08/2017 22:08

Apologies I am hogging your thread oldowl!

TheHandmaidsTail · 20/08/2017 22:12

I don think she'll see Dominic again Sad

hasitcometothis33 · 20/08/2017 22:15

Naive little scamps adventure to Daesh land only to discover it's actually a bit shit.

The director has a penchant for western guilt. Doesn't seem to have abated.

BarbaraBitchFace · 20/08/2017 22:16

A big part of radicalisation is giving people power and purpose. If you're feeling powerless and useless or undervalued then you are a target. They are fed such lies and there's a lot of online propaganda to make it seem great. So I'm not surprised many have ideas far from reality. It's good so far.

How could you take your child??!? I hope we learn back stories.

Cherrypie32 · 20/08/2017 22:39

The men's celebration at the end shows how young men without much self esteem, value, prospects etc could be made to feel if they joined up, I kind of get that, but I don't get educated, professional people like the Doctor lady going over there and being so ignorant or naive about what is likely to happen to them once they are married.

MyBeloved · 20/08/2017 23:21

I watched it too. I think it will go into greater depth as the series goes on.
