For those who may, aherm, 'know' what happens during the episode prior to its official airing.

Spoilers Galore read at your peril!

Let's try to avoid 'leaks' for episodes 5 onwards.

Initial thoughts:

I want to give Meera a hug
Poor Bran - he is the Frodo of the story. He will save the world but lose everything
I think Dany's 'betrayed for love' is either going to be Tyrion or Sam. Tyrion looked really pissed watching the Field of Fire and I have fears for Dickon
I'm liking Dany less and less with every episode

Thanks for the thread, Arya!

This would have been a hard one to sit on for several days. Lots of stuff happening on a lot of fronts.

Tons of stuff to discuss, but in terms of a summary for me:

Loved the Stark daughters - both of them. And loved seeing that they seem to be mending fences. They've grown up so much! And good on Sansa for definitely being on to LF and playing him at his own game. The Arya/Brienne scene was a thing of beauty!

Bran can fuck right off! He's not really Bran Stark anymore and therefore gets to be an arse to everyone else? Good on Meera for giving him a piece of her mind, not that he minds, but still. And could he at least be useful at seeing stuff if he has to be such a twat?

Missandei ... nope, girl, it's not a good idea to be so blinkered about a leader. Even if you feel they rescued you. Critical thinking, you know, it's generally speaking a good thing. Try to see Dany in a slightly more differentiated way. Seriously, you're not doing yourself any favours.

twattymctwatterson · 04/08/2017 20:07

Thanks Arya for the thread. yeah loved this episode. Like Blackwater it was one of those battles where you don't really want either side to lose for me. Dany isn't really doing anything Aegon the Conqueror didn't do although burning the food was fucking stupid.
Loved the comic relief in the episode. Bronn pissing himself at Dickon, Davos chatting up Missandei and "fewer" was just brilliant.
Jerome Flynn was fantastic this episode too, after not really having much to work with after the last few seasons

BossyBitch · 04/08/2017 20:10

Thanks, Arya, for the Dany thing!

I actually wanted to reach through the monitor and strangle her during the battle scene. Breaker of chains and all that ... nice. But she has a seriously cruel streak, even just seeing the way she dismisses her advisors' opinions starting out in this episode.

Letting her men risk their lives for her, roasting Lannister and Tarly soldiers alike while she soars high above everything on her weapon of mass destruction?

Interesting juxtaposition with Jamie, too. Dany's supposed to be the good guy here and the Lannisters the badies. And yet, she does all that whereas Jamie refuses to abandon his men.

And, oh goodness, poor Tyrion. While some of it may have been his brother being embroiled in the whole thing there did seem to be a sense of horror as he watched the scene unfold even before that. This should be interesting going forward.

BossyBitch · 04/08/2017 20:12

Okay, fine, she mostly just pisses me the fuck off because she's always so goddamn sanctimonious. All the other stuff, too, but on a very fundamental level mostly that.

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 20:13

BossyBitch have you ever seen Watchmen? I know GRRM is a fan. I think Bran has become the equivalent of Dr Manhatten. His all-seeing powers have caused him to become completely detached from humanity and human relationships. It's quite sad.

Missandei is a terrrible 'advisor' for Dany at this moment. She knows nothing about Westerosi customs and traditions - including why Jon was Snow and not Stark. This became obvious last week when Jon and Davos were not given guest rights and allowed to voluntarily leave their weapons in the receiving hall of Dragonstone. Guest rights is arguably the most sacred tradition in the continent - particularly the north.

So, Missandei 'chose' to follow Dany but the rest of the 7 kingdoms will have to because she has 3 big dragons and she will toast you otherwise. Nice way to win friends and influence people.

I loved Davos referring to Stannis' correction of less/fewer. Sad, but classic.

BossyBitch · 04/08/2017 20:21

I've never seen the Watchmen, no. It's on my list, but my list is rather long, I'm afraid.

Very good point about poor Missandei, though. She is utterly clueless about Westerosi affairs and culture, isn't she? Didn't even register as such because I was too distracted by her 'my queen is the messiah' delusion while watching her.

No way I could have missed Davos and his 'fewer' moment, though. He's one of my favourite characters anyway. Sadly I don't think he's going to survive, but I really, really want him to!

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 20:22

Bran saying back to LIttlefinger 'Chaos is a ladder' was priceless. LIttlefinger is so dead...

I loved the Arya/Sansa reunion. I thought it was really realistic considering what they have both been through and where their relationship started out.

I have slated this series so far, but I think this episode was among the top ones ever.

Best battle sequence ever. The only ones I really wanted to die were the Dothraki and Randyll Tarly. The way they showed that Lannister soldier virtually shitting himself as the Dothraki approached really reminded me of the Hound at the Blackwater. Thank the gods he wasn't there this episode!

Shock Where can I find this?!!!! I must seeeeeeee!!!

BossyBitch · 04/08/2017 20:26

LF is definitely dead. And I really hope it's Sansa who makes it happen. That whole thing he did to her, basically projecting his feelings for her mother on her when she was just a teen is just so creepy. Not to mention the fact that he's basically to blame for her (and Arya) having to watch their father beheaded.

Actually, let it please be an Arya/Sansa joint venture that offs him. He has it coming big time.

BossyBitch · 04/08/2017 20:27

MrsJoyOdell, Freefolk Reddit has ... um ... help available. As does the ARRR-y place for peg legged parrot owners. Wink

Just placemarking and not reading any posts yet.

ElenaGreco123 · 04/08/2017 21:27

Have Jaime and Dickon survived? I understand that Jaime got too close to the dragon (?) and got saved by Dickon and Bronn? What happened? Field of fire combined with Whispering Wood?

I have only read some spoilers, not seen it.

MyOtherProfile · 04/08/2017 21:30

Where are you guys getting all this from? Please share!

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 21:34

Elena episode ends with Jaime jumping off his horse into the water to avoid Drogon's flames. There is a great scene of him charging towards Dany full-on tourney lance jousting style after Bronn/Jaime have wounded Drogon with Bard's the Bowman's crossbow.

Last scene of the episode is Jaime disappearing into the water and, I think, Bronn jumping after him. I think the water may be the Blackwater Rush. He is in full armour. However, show plot armour means it probably has a similar density to lithium!

I think he'll survive.

Dickon I'm not sure about. I think he's alive..... For the moment.

Tyrion's face was a picture. Field of fire v2.0 was not part of his plan. I think he says 'you fucking idiot' when he sees Jaime charge towards Dany/Drogon.

MyOtherProfile I followed one of the many links posted on freefolk on Reddit. Links are being removed and reposted all the time. The link I used has now been removed.

Prepare yourself for another episode without your favourite character (sobs again).

PetyrBaelish · 04/08/2017 21:41

That was amazing, the battle at the end had me jumping up and down the whole way - first the Lannisters so smug, then you thought they were done for, I really thought Bronn would die in that scene, and will Jaime be rescued? He seemed to be sinking in plate armour, I am surprised no one has asked that question! Maybe not since they left it as a cliffhanger, they would have given Jaime a proper send off.

I agree LF is probably going to die in this season, although a lot of speculations about Arya having his dagger meaning she killed him and took it have been disproved in this episode. I reckon Bran definitely knew the truth about the dagger, but it speaks to how far gone he is from 'normal' emotion or motivation that he isn't and maybe won't mention it to his sisters.

RE Missandre, I think yes she is obviously quite clueless, and I think the 'do you really believe that she would let you leave?' conversation is foreshadowing something.

Dickon Tarly is obviously about to become a more significant character, but I think it's too early to tell what he will be like.

PetyrBaelish · 04/08/2017 21:42

Xpost about Jaime sinking!

PetyrBaelish · 04/08/2017 21:43

I used a torrent.

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 21:46

PetyrBaelish I mentioned upthread about Jaime's armour but it is probably made of plot armour so he can be saved by someone heroic like..... Bronn.

Dickon is going to be very important - but I think it's going to be for the fact that he's Sam's baby brother. I think it's no coincidence that the Tarly's switched sides to be against team Dany in the show. I think they'll declare for team fAegon in the books and so will still be against team Dany. My (crackpot) theory is that Sam could be the 'betrayal for love'.

BeyondQueenOfLists · 04/08/2017 21:47

The scene after Bronn was dehorsed gave me real Saving Private Ryan flashbacks. And when he had the giant crossbow of doom, I really thought he was a gonner.

Jaime did seem to be sinking in his armour at least, rather than just merrily swimming away Grin

Loved Arya and Brienne sparring. Still don't understand why Sansa is literally the only female in the entire north not training though!!

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 21:47

Hoping Jaime's plot armour isn't made of Lithium!! 😂

AryaUnderfoot · 04/08/2017 21:50

BeyondQueen Sansa is way too busy finding a recipe for lemoncakes with no lemons and sewing leather nipples onto breastplates with immaculate stitching.

Seriously, I think showSansa, for once, is doing a reasonable job...

Oh my life that was quite possibly my favourite ever episode! DH and I are very late to the GOT party and binged the whole 6 seasons from May-June. Season 7 is sooooo much faster paced.

I have a not so secret love for Jaime that has only grown in this episode Blush
