HBO description of the episode: Daenerys holds court. Cersei returns a gift. Jaime learns from his mistakes.

PMSL at 'Goth Pacey'.

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 11:23

Jaime is quite a skilled negotiator/diplomat in the books. The military intelligence lies with Tyrion. Tyrion is much more like Tywin than Jaime.

TheNightmanCometh · 02/08/2017 11:25

Yeah I don't mean it's implausible necessarily for him to have had that one idea. I just think Cersei holding all this together isn't very believable, even if you can argue for Jaime, Greyjoy and Qyburn as having some individual expertise in their areas. Olenna and Varys are supposed to have been so smart, and Cersei not at all.

I suppose what's going to happen soon enough is that it'll all come asunder. I don't believe anyone as dense or unable to work with others as her is going to end up being the final winner. One of the main themes in this is being punished for acting dim- hence Ned Stark, Robb Stark, Oberyn Martell etc. I'm not saying they haven't killed the clever ones off too, just that people who have been lavishly thick have tended to suffer for it.

TheNightmanCometh · 02/08/2017 11:26

Wish I could take the credit for Goth Pacey, but read it somewhere else!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 02/08/2017 11:36

But you can take credit for bringing the name to us Grin

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 11:37

Cersei's days are numbered but D&D need her as an antagonist for a bit longer. The main battle against the WW cannot feasibly take up more than 3 or 4 hours next season, so there will need to be some human 'battles' fought.

Littlefucker is the same. How he is managing to stay alive at this present moment is beyond me.

Renarde75 · 02/08/2017 12:06

Just popping on to say how much I am enjoying this thread. Learning lots and lots!

BeyondQueenOfLists · 02/08/2017 12:10

It's been agreed pretty much everywhere I have read about it that the battle for the throne will be pretty much resolved this season, with the war against the WW (and the end of winter? Shortest winter ever??) taking all of next season. Obviously this may be wrong as it's just a load of opinions though

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 12:15

Beyond you've been reading different things to me then.

I hope you're right - I genuinely do. I'm not putting money on it.

honeyroar · 02/08/2017 12:20

Yes I think that too Beyondqueen, I imagine someone smug sitting on the iron throne thinking they've won (probably Cersei and Euron) while there is a shot of white walkers pouring over the wall. I think Dany is not quite as thick and stubborn as Cersei, so she may come round to Jon and what he is saying, especially if Jorah gets there. I hope Sam is a fast writer, it will all be over before he's done if not!

Another bugbear is why would Euron bother trying to impress and marry Ceraei? As someone said, there was nobody else really to take the iron throne, I'm surprised he didn't just kill her and take the throne. That's always been his past method.

Ps, I think Tiryon is being patient not boring. I think he sees Dany going slightly off the plot a bit (accusing Varys..) and wants to try and keep her thinking not getting angry. And he doesn't really know how Jon works, so he's testing the ground there.

TheNightmanCometh · 02/08/2017 12:22

Go on then chief, I'll accept a few compliments!

LF is still alive because he has an army. His army is sufficiently useful that it's worth keeping him around. I'm still not convinced he won't win out, actually, I remember Varys saying he's managed to get money and lands so the one thing that's missing is the army. He has it now. But as a character, he's kind of been dead to me since he married Sansa off to Ramsay then just left her. It was nonsensical. You can tell it wasn't in the books, it was just some shit they added in from nowhere. It made no sense.

TheNightmanCometh · 02/08/2017 12:26

He's not supposed to be that much of a land fighter though is he? She was never going to be hanging around alone on a rickety rope bridge, so he'd have needed to get her onto a boat.

squishysquirmy · 02/08/2017 12:27

Euron has a navy, but I don't think he could get far without access to large armies. He still needs Cersei and Jamie.

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 12:32

How does LF have an army? He has no legitimacy with KL any more as the Vale has joined with the north. He is not the Lord of anything in the Vale - he was merely Lysa Arryn's husband. The Vale knights are sworn to the Vale Lords. Robert Arryn is completely AWOL. The only Vale Lord in Winterfell seems to be Bronze Yohn, and he hates Littlefinger.

With all the shit that Sansa has on Littlefinger, why doesn't she just get rid of him? He serves no useful purpose any more other than to create some more 'tension' in Winterfell. It just doesn't make any sense.

TheNightmanCometh · 02/08/2017 12:40

Didn't he bring the Vale army to the Battle of the Bastards? They didn't just turn up of their own volition, presumably.

I agree he's increasingly nonsensical though.

NorthernLurker · 02/08/2017 12:45

Young master Arryn told him to help Sansa. He turned up, she said get lost, then she summoned him back. It's an arryn army, he's just looking after it.

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 12:51

But the Vale - particularly the Arryns and Royces - have generally been loyal to the Starks. The North doesn't need Littlefinger to keep the loyalty of the Vale Lords and their Knights.

Seriously, Sansa has enough shit on Littlefinger and enough motive to want him gone. He serves no purpose to her.

Book LF, on the other hand, has a much tighter grip on the Vale Lords. None of that has really been explored in the show. Show Littlefinger has influence in the Vale because......... he just does.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/08/2017 13:18

Didn't book Euron want to marry the mother of dragons, if that was his long game he has fucked up a bit? I could be wrong I am amazed by how well you all keep the books vs tv series in your heads!

AryaUnderfoot · 02/08/2017 13:44

yumyum yes, book Euron has sent his brother (Victarion) off to 'cleaim' Dany on his behalf. Victarion is going to claim her for himself. Show Yara is a bit like a female Victarion and show Euron is like.......

Brooke Euron is reaving up and down the coast of the Reach in the books. He has his Dragonbinder horn which is going to cause havoc with a dragon one day.

I manage to keep show and books (mostly books) so firmly in my head as I am sad and have no life.Wink

I am also procrastinating because I should be doing some useful work but this is a very good distraction.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 02/08/2017 14:43

I can't keep the books in my head any more - particularly Feast of Crows and Dance of Dragons. I will reread them once we have a release date for Winds of Winter! Do you think there's any truth to GRRM saying it might be next year?

I want to see the dragons in action soon! Go and burn the Lannister army with them, go on, Dany! The scruples about sacking King's Landing and killing innocent civilians don't apply to armies and no one in Westeros would ever dream that they would.

wars81 · 02/08/2017 18:25

is it me or has daenerys really gone up her own arse?

ElenaGreco123 · 02/08/2017 23:00

I have to disagree. Book Jaime is meant to be very intelligent. But as long as he was the greatest swordsman that ever lived he did not have to use his brain. After Harrenhall he started fulfilling his true potential. Show Jaime is dumb.

ElenaGreco123 · 02/08/2017 23:12

Just watching the show. The Iron Bank would not finance the slave trade! Braavos was funded by slaves fleeing the Valyrian dragonlords. They were in hiding for thousands of years.

yumyumpoppycat · 02/08/2017 23:29

Arya - your posts are very useful to us on this thread at least Grin

TooExtra I need to reread the books but I gave them to my younger sister who I seriously doubt will actually read them Hmm

Not sure what to make of Jamie tbh.

maggiso · 03/08/2017 08:36

Wars- yes Danny is full of self importance. Dragon stone has gone to her head!
