Tennis Tennis Tennis

Am most excited & thought the grass needs a new thread.

I'll stick my neck out & say Fed to win the mens' & Carolina Plisshkova (sp?) for the womens'.

OP posts:

If Kerber wins, I'd be having words with the schedulers who put her on court 2- as the number 1 seed. They wouldn't do it to Murray. Hell, they won' t even put him on 1!

Raahh · 10/07/2017 13:35

I do like Conchita Martinez.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2017 13:39

Yes, Raahh, that's pretty terrible.

QuiQuaiQuod · 10/07/2017 13:47

My fave matches are on this week- the invitation ones.

Leconte/Bahrami/Ivanisevic/Cash/McNamara/ etc etc.

Lets see if Andy and Konta make it though.

iuts almost a death nell when the media start with 'favourites to win' and'can they go all the way' stuff. Tennis.

poster who said Djoko looks smug all the time. spot on.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 13:50

I know Court 2 is still one of he main courts, but it's not one of the show courts, and it's a bugbear of mine really, how some players are treated compared to others. Why is Venus Williams on Centre Court, playing a relative unknown? Whilst Kerber, last year's finalist, is playing the finalist from the year before??

Raahh · 10/07/2017 13:53

Sorry 2015- Garbine was a finalist. My ranting is confusing my years Grin

Raahh · 10/07/2017 13:56

I was right first time.

i give up Grin

Fizzywinegum · 10/07/2017 13:57

I agree that some players are treated differently in terms of which court they're on - some matches between the less "well known" players are sometimes more entertaining

Do they usually play all of the singles matches in one day as they are today - if they'd spread the matches out over 2 days maybe some of the other matches eg Kerber's could have been played on the show courts.

Will some of the players playing today have to play again tomorrow?

trixymalixy · 10/07/2017 13:58

whats happenede to konta!! she was well up in the fitrst set when i last looked and now back on serve?

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2017 14:00

Yes surely people would rather watch two previous finalists on centre court.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:06

It does seem odd that all the 4th round matches are today. They will have to have a day off tomorrow, there is always a day between rounds in the slams (unless there is bad weather). I don't remember it being like this.

Muguruza through. I do like her.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:07

Jane it was a good match. and now Kerber is out.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:09

Noisy one up next- Azarenka v Halep. Bit torn, love Halep, but like seeing Azarenka doing well. If noisily.

trixymalixy · 10/07/2017 14:13

I'm happy Muguruza is through too.

Totally agree that the scheduling of the matches in terms of courts is a bit odd. Did you see that article the other day accusing wimbledon of being sexist and scheduling more Men's matches on the show courts?

JaneJeffer · 10/07/2017 14:16

Aww I'm sorry for Kerber. She probably thought she had a good chance with Serena away. I do like Muguruza too.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:22

Trixy I missed that , but it doesn't surprise me. I'm not as big a fan of the women as the men, but they deserve equal billing.

Boris has just said something, so it suggests there have been complaints on twitter. Grin

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:27

I've realised tomorrow is 'reserve sports day' held over from the other week when it rained. So , if there isn't as much on, I won't miss much.

still hoping for more rain Grin

randomsabreuse · 10/07/2017 14:28

Because there's no middle Sunday play all the L16s are on Monday then women's quarters on Tuesday. So the women's are all first to make sure they're done ready for tomorrow. There's also a threat of rain later.

Cynically the big crowd pleasers will be the big 4 men's - having them anywhere other than centre/1 would be potentially unsafe.

bookbook · 10/07/2017 14:30

So, have just arrived in , ready to settle down -

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:34

Random - I know, but it doesn't make it fair. And of course, have to put Murray where the roof isHmm

Cilic has won his first set - which is nice.

Wozniacki has lost her first set.

I'm channel hopping before I have to leave for the school run. I've only just drying out.Grin

Peregrina · 10/07/2017 14:37

What has happened to Konta? Her game appears to have collapsed.

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:37

Maybe I should ring school and tell them to keep the girls until next Monday. Grin

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:38

Halep needs o break back here or will be 3-0 down in the first
set.

and she did. 2-1

Raahh · 10/07/2017 14:41

Just flicked over and saw Benoit's beard- I like a bushy beard.

GrouchyKiwi · 10/07/2017 14:46

I think it's that Garcia is playing better than in the beginning of the first set and that's getting to Jo a bit. She's (finally) settling down now.

The third set should be a good battle.
