New thread!

OP posts:
Ceto · 09/05/2017 00:09

Steve needed to go just for the staggering tastelessness of his theme. Would anyone really be happy with a plateful of something meant to represent cannibalism?

BestIsWest · 09/05/2017 06:09

No, I'm with you Blue. He was much too cheery. And the food seemed to be stodgy course after stodgy course.

JigglyTuff · 09/05/2017 08:31

I agree re the chef. He was verging on patronising and way too touchy feels with the women

JigglyTuff · 09/05/2017 08:31

Touchy feely

Elendon · 09/05/2017 10:01

I really didn't like the chef in charge. All go go go go go go go go - no pressure then! The food was stodgy and I was aghast at the pushing the finger in to get the ice cream onto the plate. Sorry, but that gave me the heebeejeebies.

I loved Alison's open sandwich, especially as it reminded her of west coast of Ireland crab - 'tis superb. And who doesn't like Mr Fox!

But so sorry to see Lorna go. She has missed out on South Africa.

Elendon · 09/05/2017 10:05

P.S. I want and need a bottle green top like Alison's. I have a coat like hers.

Wormulonian · 09/05/2017 10:07

Yes - My DP couldn't believe the finger pushed into the ice cream. The food was foul - Johnson looked like she really didn't want to chug that lot down.

macnab · 09/05/2017 12:24

Long-time lurker on these posts, I watch MC with my DH who literally could not boil an egg yet is able to critique the dishes better than John himself Grin it's all "ooh that sauce has split" and "oh no, pigeon can be so hard to get right" ...

DH was horrified that the chef stuck his fingers in the food! He also remarked on his touchy-feelyness with the ladies - but did anyone notice that he didn't put a finger on Saliha? The other 3 he was all over, hugging them etc but I don't think he even shook Saliha's hand? Maybe it's a cultural thing? Either way, he was a bit too gungho for my liking, I reckon he's trying to get himself a bit more TV work, he's on Saturday Kitchen quite a lot apparently?

I'm sad to see Lorna go, but they were all so good it just came down to the smallest of errors. I'm in love with rooting for Steve but would also be delighted if Alison or Giovanna wins. I do like Saliha but I'm so fed up with the lack of diversity in her dishes. I can't see how anyone else who had only done one type of cuisine every single time would have made it to the finals, that's something they have picked up on in previous series?

I could say something about Greg(g) in that hat & scarf but I don't want to get myself started - in a bad way, like Grin

QueenMortificado · 09/05/2017 12:32

Finally caught up. Love Alison and hope her to win, she creates such imaginative dishes

Lorna was right choice to go and I think Saliha's time is about up. Agree that the American five courses looked way too much, how could they have forced down that monkey bread and then also had to eat that breakfast pudding afterwards?!

Also, the most random gueslist ever. Bet they had absolutely nothing to talk about over dinner.

I don't like the last few episodes where they arse around wasting time before they get them back in the kitchen and judging their dishes again. This Cape Town business will be a right waste of time.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 09/05/2017 12:54

I love them! The idea is to have some time when they're just learning/practising. I especially like the very last night where we see the final three at home with their families.

Agree I didn't like the look of that American menu at all. I can eat for Britain, but I'd have been ill eating as much as that. I especially didn't like the look of Alison's starter. The bacon looked flabby and maple syrup glaze does nothing for me.

Giovanna to win!

GrouchyKiwi · 09/05/2017 15:43

Just watching this now.

DD1 said about Gregg: He's everywhere. How does he get there? I think he sneaks on.

GrouchyKiwi · 09/05/2017 16:41

Well, that result was fair.

Ceto · 09/05/2017 16:47

I never really see the point of the episodes where they send them to work in some restaurant kitchen, nothing ever seems to turn on how they perform there.

slug · 09/05/2017 16:59

I for one will miss Lorna's incredible on point lipstick game.

NotYoda · 09/05/2017 19:08

I think the restaurant episodes are
a) to advertise restaurants
b) for them to learn and practise

QueenMortificado · 09/05/2017 19:19

See I really dislike the mass catering challenges which never result in anything other than them making an unimaginative pasta bake for the veggies

squoosh · 09/05/2017 19:28

I much prefer the mass catering episodes. I suspect sponge and custard for 200 is more my level than caviar raviolo with samphire foam.

squoosh · 09/05/2017 21:39

Life is too short to lattice a carrot.

That is all.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 09/05/2017 21:43

Didn't Steve learn how to do the carrot lattice in the restaurant episode a few weeks back?

dementedma · 09/05/2017 22:42

I loved Steve's blood spattered plate! I also like Giovanna

GavelRavel · 10/05/2017 07:06

I'm glad someome else said that about the chef! If my boss or manager touched women like that he'd be done for sexual harrassment! Even DP, who is not that PC, said "what a leche"

Sad that that person had to go as I think she could have gone further, but sadly, she was up against stiff co.petition on the night as presentation was the only issue with the others and she had more errors.

MrsPeelyWaly · 10/05/2017 08:20

I thought the chef was lovely.

TwoBeams · 10/05/2017 08:21

I love Alison, really want her to win. Steve, meh, I'm not feeling the love for him at all

Re the chef fella, I thought he was lovely. Different to hear encouragement rather than grumpiness. Agreed he was a bit touchy feely but I think Saliha was giving off "don't come near me" vibes with her body language.

squoosh · 10/05/2017 11:13

I'm indifferent to Steve and Saliha really. I hope Giovanna wins although I think Alison might be creeping out in front. I don't have anything against Alison but she doesn't make me want to cheer for her either. But as a fellow Dubliner I feel I should be more supportive of her. So I'm on the fence really!

No one I've really adored this year, but then no one who's really irritated me either (apart from the gormless greengrocer obv).

squoosh · 10/05/2017 11:14

2015, now that was a vintage year for having someone to cheer for (lovely Elf Lord) as well as someone to do a lot of eye rolling at (hipster circus ringmaster).
