Mother of God - it's the final LOD! Watch as Roz Buckells up for the ride-has she managed to Lakewell enough to uncover Big Fella H with no reciprocity?

If H was Hilton-ie the "top dog"-he wouldn't be dead, would he?

Ferrisday · 02/05/2017 08:42

He's not the top dog
I specifically said that
There is a criminal underworld that is the top dog. Hilton did their bidding within the police force.
He either killed himself because he'd had enough of looking over his shoulder or they killed him because he's a liability or no longer useful.

diddl · 02/05/2017 09:10

OK, I'd understood it as H being "top dog", hence Hilton being only a minor HGrin

FeralBeryl · 02/05/2017 09:15

I think we'll hear more about Tim next time too and his parallel investigations.

The more I think obsess about it, I reckon Nick is definitely involved in something too. Roz wouldn't mention it because 'my children need a parent' and once it was clear that they'd got her, she had to protect him.
Her anger at his weakness and constant jibes about having to clear up his messes etc suggest far more to my tiny mind.

Oh and H is definitely ButtonMoon AND Beans.

OK so had a bit of time to digest. Hats off to TN, I started off thinking she was awful but by the end of it, totally believed her acting and that was just her way of showing Roz as always calculating, super strategising her next move. Startled when things happened that she wasn't expecting but then using it to her advantage, one way or another. I started off thinking she was in on the Farmer framing. But the reaction to the biometrics makes sense now, as a PP said, she realised she may not be right about Farmer after all and that perhaps she was the one being stitched up. Hilton's talk about 'there's the truth and then there are facts' and him convincing her that he had her back, meant she went all out to get a conviction for Farmer, whether or not she had any doubts. She thought she had all bases covered. She presented evidence to the CPS detailing why he was guilty but she didn't present all the counter evidence that a defence might use and hence he was arrested.

But I'm still not comfortable with the whole Ifield/flat/death scenario. She knows how the system works. I get that. And this is TV drama, not real. But the whole 'self defence being hard to prove' wasn't totally convincing. He had dismembering equipment at the ready and no doubt receipts for having bought it. Details I guess. That's for real life not telly. I wonder how would it have panned out if Roz had been killed off on ep 1? Would he then have been doing the same as her and covering up an 'accident' because his experience also told him that it would be hard to prove otherwise, especially with a smaller, female victim.

All in all, I was totally hooked and enjoyed the watch and these threads but I do think previous series were more convincing and not sure if that was because of move to BBC1 and wanting to cater to a wider viewing audience in general. Way too many red herrings, even down to Nick having a similar jacket as balaclava man, and wearing it in public Smile. I agree that 'H' is not done and dusted yet and it would be good if it was someone higher up in the public eye but because so many people want that and JM is obviously on this forum, he will probably write something else.

Anyone else think JM was the final balaclava man shot by Ted, or is that just me ? A bit Stan Lee, but wouldn't be surprised.

Jed and Manet on This Morning Now

CoolCarrie · 02/05/2017 11:08

Sorry Maneet! Now

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 02/05/2017 11:10

I am busy at work , so can someone please report back!!?

And, yes, I am both JM* and H.

I'd love to be H ,actually. So much evil fun.

  • so may be engaged in yet another elaborate double bluff..
ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 02/05/2017 11:11

Maya Sodhi a useless one to be doing the rounds on these interviews. She wasn't in episode 5 and knows nothing!

Come to think of it, that is exactly why she is being deployed.

CoolCarrie · 02/05/2017 11:25

Jee said that LOD isn't going to Hollywood, that Look Hastings gave at the end was him concerned about what Kate and Steve think of him, and it won't be back until 2019! Oh and Martin likes to do his own stunts and is a real action man

cushioncovers · 02/05/2017 11:35

Loved it but my biggest complaint, well two actually is that Steve Arnott and Ros Huntley had massive life changing injuries/surgeries and it barely impacted on their duties. Found it a bit laughable that both were back to work so soon.

VanillaSugar · 02/05/2017 12:35

Just a bit ever so in love with Jed Mercurio now swoons

TheElephantofSurprise · 02/05/2017 12:45

That's because Nick killed him and she was just covering up. In my head, anyway.

elkegel · 02/05/2017 13:13

Didn't Roz attack first? I thought the first thing was that she shoved Ifield's hand on the hot plate. While she wasn't under any current physical threat.

OutToGetYou · 02/05/2017 13:37

Nick can't have killed him - why would she have all the fingers and laptop etc, and why would her DNA be everywhere but none of his?

And why would the two of them be so suspicious of each other?

No, I reckon - she saw the bio photo and realised TI was right and Farmer had been set up. (Like Denton) she then set about trying to find out who was the real killer while also becoming aware that Hitlon was instrumental.
She then found out that Nick had lied about where he was when Leoni was killed and adding that to Steve questioning him and then being attacked meant she suspected Nick. So, knowing she had killed TI she decided to prove Nick's guilt with Leoni and set him up for the TI killing - so only one of them went to prison - hence her comment 'our children need one parent' (not 'my children need me' which I think would be a more natural thing to say?).

That way, he goes down for both, she gets to look after the (sulky unfriendly) kids. If she didn't set him up for TI death there was a risk he goes down for Leoni and she goes down for TI - leaving the kids parentless. She was delusional remember, with fever etc, but I think she sussed Farmer's innocence and Hilton's connection - she imagined the Nick part, but worked it out later when she got all the phone records (thanks to swot Jodie!).

Lakewell will get 2-4 years but be out for the next series.

H was Hilton in this context but Dot wouldn't have known who was proper in charge, so they have "Dot's H", but there is another H, higher up, and H is now just a code-name (like 'The Caddy' was, which was all because Dot met Hunter when he was a youngster caddying on the golf course for pocket money, and then later went into the police - 'caddy' is not a general term for a police insider I don't think?)

Agree her reason for not calling in TI death was weak, esp as he could have been saved. TI thinking she was dead was weak and him then deciding to cut her up - but I think we were supposed to just see him as a sadly lonely single guy who used prostitutes and had weird ideas.

The magical medical recoveries were far fetched but I could live with them.

Maneet is the unresolved thread for me.

OutToGetYou · 02/05/2017 13:38

Roz didn't shove his hand on the pan, it was just as he stepped away from her he put his hand out to steady himself.

As he went to answer the door I thought to myself 'turn the hob off'......I was right!

Whywaitfortomorrow · 02/05/2017 15:00

I don't think Roz thought Nick was actually capable of doing anything, she just picked up on, what was to her, his stupidity at being in the wrong place at the wrong time - outside Ifield's flat, may have left work do early or got there late on night of Leonie's disappearance, etc. As JM said on interview on This Morning, they have to edit/leave out the boring bits and concentrate on the interesting bits. They had a very peculiar relationship. I think that's why she arrested him because she genuinely believed he had had her hand chopped off in revenge, she said for the affair but we don't know if in her head she was thinking he had finally got the better of her and there was almost nothing she could do about it, except arrest him of course.

Whywaitfortomorrow · 02/05/2017 15:01

When I say 'the affair' I mean the made up one that never actually happened.

Fizzingwhizbees · 02/05/2017 15:26

I read this morning that ITV have just bought a majority share in the production company behind LOD. I really hope it always stays on BBC, imagine the interrogation scenes with Lindsay/Dot/Roz being cut off for a fabric conditioner advert!

tribpot · 02/05/2017 20:16

I think the Beeb have commissioned Series 5 so at least we should be okay for that one. But urgh do not want it to have to be written for ad breaks.

OneOfTheGrundys · 02/05/2017 21:48

I'm going to rewatch from series one, in prep for series 5. Anyone else?
