Mother of God - it's the final LOD! Watch as Roz Buckells up for the ride-has she managed to Lakewell enough to uncover Big Fella H with no reciprocity?

Surely the whole thing re Tim and Hannah was that he didn't believe Farmer was responsible for any of it so was doing his own investigation into Hannah's kidnapping. He could use samples collected during the Police investigation so was getting his own? Also Hannah admitted at some point to sleeping with I field didn't she as she sort of admitted to a bit of casual prostitution at one point?

Also re Roz and Farmer. I think she genuinely believed he was guilty at first and she was getting a lot if pressure to solve the case so she ran with it. When stuff started coming up casting doubt on his guilt her personal pride wouldn't let her admit she was wrong. She had been the golden girl from the top brass. A female detective from an ethnic minority group; she'd have been a poster girl to show how 'equal opportunities' the Police is and her peers would have resented that feeling she was getting preferential treatment. She wanted to show she had got to where she was on merit and admitting she'd got it wrong would have played into the hands of all the people who said she'd achieved what she'd done for other reasons.

Hence she stuck doggedly to proving Farmer's guilt even when it was becoming clear he wasn't. I also got the impression that she'd taken her career break not to bring up her children but because something had happened which made it a good idea to lay low from the Police for awhile but I may have dreamt that!

Right beenover thinking even more . The bit with Steve being thrown down the stairs is just a giant red herring and , therefore, an annoying plot hole and it bugs me. It's all well and good writers putting in red herrings but hen they need to admit they are in some way...

It makes sense that Nick phoned Jimmy. It doesn't makes sense that Jimmy phoned Hilton to set up a BM , unless they were trying to ste up Roz, which they weren't and they weren't involved at all in Ifield's demise, to our knowledge. the two things were unconnected until Roz, unwittingly, brought them together. Steve investigating Nick and Roz wouldn't have brought him to them... they weren't actually in danger of being found out since Roz was actually doing their bidding.

It doesn't make sense. My head hurts!! (Not as much as Steve's admittedly)

Jed , mate, close your plot holes!!

Ahmezia · 01/05/2017 10:07

Sorry should be couldn't use not could use samples.

hollyisalovelyname · 01/05/2017 10:07

Many thanks TheElepantofSurprise.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 01/05/2017 10:14

ps I think anyone who thinks the Ifield plot etc will be tied up next series probably hasn't watched S 1- 3. Although there is a narrative arc of corruption and The Caddy (now, who is H) each series is pretty discrete and that will be the last we see or hear of Nick, etc.

Possibly might be more on Snakewell. But I doubt it. They're all just pawns. they don't matter to the bigger criminals.

I did like the line up of 'H's at the end though and did wonder whether Ted (or another H) is fitting up - and then disposing of - other Hs one by one!

I think LoD would become more interesting if politicians were somehow involved, since 'Top Brass' do tend to be controlled by them.

TheHiphopopotamus · 01/05/2017 10:17

I agree with all that ahmezia

Also, Jimmy and Nick are involved in something dodgy, but what? You're all right that in hindsight Steve being chucked off the balcony now makes no sense.

Also the thing about finding 'new' bits of one of murdered prostitutes with newspaper dated after Farmer was arrested and Ifield was murdered is bothering me too. Was that deliberate and if so why? It means the set up of Farmer was pointless.

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 01/05/2017 10:18
  • Beans, love "Snakewell" as a descriptor. Why haven't we been using that since he first appeared? Slithering solicitor: sibilant, eh?
  • Paddle brushes are known to be useful for purposes other than hair maintenance. Ahem.
Blush Wink
  • Am entertaining pleasing thought that Maneet tracked down a whole collection of others wronged by OilyHilton, who together staged his 'suicide' in retribution.
(On second thoughts, though, lovely Maneet is above such. Well, the rest of them did it then; she merely brought them together).
  • "Poor Michael's Nanna got liberated from her nursing home, where she would have been cared for, to go and share a house with Michael, where she'd probably end up caring for him. Not a step up, in my view!"
Helzapoppin, Don't worry: I like to think Nana was rewarded for her part in exonerating Farmer by the relocation team supplying a live-in nurse/ carer/ bodyguard to cater to both their needs Smile
  • nother,
Yup! 20 minutes in the semi-dark, with only the hallway light on (but we were so focused on LOD it didn't really matter).
TheHiphopopotamus · 01/05/2017 10:19

that will be the last we see or hear of Nick

I'm not sure. Characters we think we've seen the last of have a habit of popping up again (unless they're dead, obviously) Grin I agree Ifield's murder is done and dusted though.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 01/05/2017 10:22

I guess once AC12 started investigating Roz, the criminal underworld may have wanted her to go down ? They can - it seems - always find a new corrupt cop!

Jed is obviously playing games with us now, making sure all new characters names begin with H!

But Ted has been looking into all these Hs for a year so they can't suddenly juts pick somewhere ff that board next series and have Ted say 'oh yes, I hadn't really looked into Hudson/ Hughes/ Hemingway , silly me.

Ergo, it's Ted. Sorry. Throwing everyone off the scent and throwing Hs under the bus.

Or it is Hudson/ Hughes/ Hemingway/ Hubblebubble pulling Ted's strings. But then Kate or someone would also be looking into all of them. And they appear not to have been , which is odd...

Abraiid2 · 01/05/2017 10:30

Could the H stand for a first name? Has that theory been discounted?

TheLegendOfBeans · 01/05/2017 10:32

Am I the only person that felt a teeny tiny wee bit sorry for Roz?

She obviously was one of these folk desperate to get ahead at work and something upended that (not her having babies, the timelines mentioned earlier in the series ensure this is clear).

What I love about JM is that the way he writes you could have a whole series about certain characters lives on their own (and what led them to be in the positions they find themselves in in LoD)

For instance

Denton
Roz Huntley
Dot
even Hastings himself

ceases musing

stella23 · 01/05/2017 10:33

So where did Tim get his balaclava? It really makes no sense.
I really don't think we will see him the next series as that's not been the pattern from the others series. The whole murder doesn't work.

Ahmezia · 01/05/2017 10:37

Oh another thought re Steve being thrown over the Bannister. Hadn't AC 12 been told to stop investigating Roz an co but Steve is like a dog with a bone. He's the one they wanted to get rid off as he would never let it lie. When Nick phones Lakewell they realise Steve isn't going to let it drop so dispatch balaclava man to get rid. Also it potentially does point the finger at Nick who is innocent thereby keeping the suspicion off the real culprits?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 01/05/2017 10:37

^^ Or is Snakewell a barrister, not a solicitor? (my grasp of legal terms is sketchy).

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 01/05/2017 10:38

Beans to Beans

I didn't!

was I the only one who guffawed out loud when Roz started saying ' someone needs to be a parent to our children?' . With each corrupt cop, JM finds a motivation which makes them become more corrupt but humanises them - so with Denton it was her mum, with Gates it was his children, with Dryden... hmmmm, not so sure but he seemed fallible.

I felt like shouting at Roz ' you've spent the last five episodes ignoring your children and basically neglecting them!' Don't play the parent card now!!

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2017 10:39

So wanted to see Jodie's face when she learns that Roz is a murderer.

I hear ya but wasn't it the case that Nick called Lakewell who called Hilton who called Balaclava Man to dispatch Arnott?

Hilton would be justified in doing this not only for the reason above but also he was probably extra sick of feeling undermined by AC12?

MarilynWhirlwindRocks · 01/05/2017 10:44

Marmalade,

Me too! Bet her glasses veritably steamed up with indignation. Grin

the legend of beans

Yes I agree with that. Hilton must have been desperate to get rid of Steve. To a certain extent he could keep the lid on it with Ted who is slightly more corporate & concerned about his position. Steve just doesn't seem to care other than getting to the truth.

ILikeBeansWithKetchup · 01/05/2017 11:01

I rather like Jodie - swotty and anxious, she was the one who came up with the key evidence in the end - doing 'basic coppering'

I know it's the rule that we are supposed to hate her but I thought she was one of the more believable and clearly motivated characters : a young woman in an essentially misogynist world , in awe of her female role model. it made sense to me.

I'd really like her to be in AC12 next series , having toughened up a bit.

TheLegendOfBeans · 01/05/2017 11:05

Imagine Jodie in AC12?! That's an awesome shout Beans

She's such a diligent wee snooper I think she'd be really good.

Ps: LOL @ Marilyn 😂
