Ming the Merciless reveals a secret love for ferrets
PlectrumElectrum · 17/04/2017 15:21

Shock tempname, the level of detail in your observation on the previous version of Quinn's book is verging on Carrie-esq. Do you keep notes on a wall of crazy too ? Grin

tempnamechange77 · 17/04/2017 15:50

Plectrum- Grin I'm so flattered!

I binge-watched series 1-5 for the first time in the summer when I was up with a newborn. I was v excited to watch series 6 in real time but got so impatient waiting each week I starting watching from the beginning again inbewtween. So sad at the moment rewatching series 4 when Carrie drags Quinn out to Islamabad with her when he really wants to leave the CIA.... 😭

Cocolepew · 17/04/2017 16:04

Well my mum has decided that Quinn is still alive. I said don't be ridiculous they had a memorial for him.
Her answer was that on Criminal Minds they had a memorial for soneone but it was to protect him, the bad gays therefore thought he was dead and no longer looked for him.

Cocolepew · 17/04/2017 16:05

Erm bad guys I have no idea about their sexual orientation.

Kinraddie · 17/04/2017 16:13

I have watched every series of Homeland but the fact that Quinn has a son called John Jr has completely passed me by. When did this happen and who is the mother? Did Quinn ever see his son? Very sad that he has died, but I always felt he wouldn't survive this series. Next series has got to have Saul in charge of the CIA, getting romantically entangled with President Keane, and Carrie finding out she is a bad 'un.

Chavelita · 17/04/2017 16:17

Thanks, Random. Now can you PM me where I can pick up that beauty, please? Grin

Coco, your mother is clearly an incredibly optimistic person if she concludes that someone repeatedly shot at point blank range by half the US army/the PE's protection squad/random Black Ops types under the command of evil General Skeletor is alive. Grin

Though that does prompt a question -- who actually shot Quinn? McClendon's Black Ops stooges who overheard the PE's protection guy say she was alive? The PE's legitimate protection squad under the impression it's the attempted assassin making a getaway? NY Police?

Weirdly, there seemed to be a hiatus of several minutes when the PE and Carrie were sitting in the car with dead Quinn being photographed/filmed by passersby on their phones, before anyone in authority showed up.

Also, if someone was shooting at a close enough range/with a powerful enough weapon to kill someone in the driver's seat of a presumably well-armoured car, wouldn't the bullets have penetrated the seat and hit the PE and Carrie on the floor in the back?

Cocolepew · 17/04/2017 16:29

I did mention the bullet holes in him but she is refusing to budge. Because she "liked him, and it will be full of old people without him" Hmm

blackdoglet · 17/04/2017 16:41

I

RandomDent · 17/04/2017 16:41

If Brody can survive a hanging, Quinn can survive a shooting with blood out of the mouth.

BlackDoglet · 17/04/2017 16:43

Kin - I agree, I think Saul and the PE will get it on next series.

TheSpottedZebra · 17/04/2017 16:43

I want a prize for tolling my bell of death mostly accurately and with great foresight. Please.

temp I also commend your attention to detail. Maybe MI5 will recruit you via this thread?
Red the Great Expectations, are we meant to see Peter as Pip? The poor orphan whose life changed when he met Abel Magwitch the shady crim (Dar obvs).
I was trying to decide if then Carrie was Estella, who had been brought up to not be able to love but who tried to live Pip, or Miss havisham, who fucked up their love.

Dadsaworry · 17/04/2017 16:44

Coco - love your mums positive spirit (rather too optimistic but so be it!)

TheSpottedZebra · 17/04/2017 16:44

Coco what is your mum's position on Saul? Good, right?

Cocolepew · 17/04/2017 16:52

Yes, she's wrong about Saul too.

Chavelita · 17/04/2017 16:55

Zebra I was also pondering the Great Expectations symbolism, but all I concluded was that I wanted Saul to be Miss Havisham, trailing around in a yellowed wedding dress and one shoe to bemoan his last season's betrayal by Hair (and Mira, too, come to think of it -- wasn't she boffing a French double agent at one point?)

Dar Adal strikes me as a more obvious Fagin, and I can entirely imagine him prancing about giving it his best Ron Moody singing 'You've Got to Pick A Pocket or Two'...

Also, did I imagine it, or did McClendon also describe Quinn as 'pretty'?

TheSpottedZebra · 17/04/2017 17:08

Chav Saul is Joe! Good to the core, but often underestimated.

Yes. General Skeletor did describe Quinn as pretty. He was pretty when young, but not now I think.

Fiderer · 17/04/2017 17:18

He did describe Quinn as "pretty". I noticed that too.

Not sure what else I else I noticed though. There was a massive conspiracy but apart from McC from the military, Senator Handcuffs (v weedy unlikely to be a key player) who was involved?

SoulAccount · 17/04/2017 20:25

Good Great Expectations observations, UnGoogleable and Temp.

Lol at Carrie 's next mission being to expose the fact that she herself is a bad'un.

I think the next series should be a Prequel, Star Wars stylie, in which we see Quinn's rise to Black Ops operator before he appears on the mission to keep an eye on Carrie in Series One.

Coco, I think this is the resurrection of Quinn your Mum is feeling.

SoulAccount · 17/04/2017 20:27

There could also be the offshoot series: Quinn in Syria.

nightswimming1 · 17/04/2017 20:31

Quinn's son was mentioned a looooong time ago (s3? S4?) and he doesn't really see him 🙁 I recall the boy's mother is called Julia.

I was super cross last night as I realised from the start that Quinn wouldn't make it. But on reflection his time was up. I'm just very sad they never got it together (and I won't see him in his loveliness again. I can't have been alone hoping for a dramatic recovery 😉).

I remembered his lovely letter to Carrie when we thought he died last series (no "dumb speech"). Glad that was referenced, if obliquely. He'll be missed!

Lweji · 17/04/2017 20:52

Oooh, a prequel!

Hassled · 17/04/2017 21:10

I'm so damn impressed with the Great Expectations' detail. That was a major continuity fail, having different editions of the book in different seasons. Unless Quinn read his earlier version so often it fell apart.

And yes, there's so much scope for a prequel. Carrie's rise from bipolar teenager with absent mother and eccentric father to top CIA operative, while Quinn is raised by wolves until Dar corrupts him.

SoulAccount · 17/04/2017 22:19

Do they sell Penguin Classics in the U.S?

tempnamechange77 · 17/04/2017 22:27

It must be a continuity fail, but then surely they went to the trouble of keeping the polorid of John Jr and his mother? Although on closer inspection the earlier series 2 photo looks more worn than the second one! And possibly not even the same style of photo.

I remembered it because I wondered at the time if they had that branding in the US and thought maybe it was one that Rupert Friend was just reading at the time?
