True,Graphista and Diddl. It would have been nice to see female solidarity on the show, instead of going down the road of 2 women turning on each other over a man, in a way...

IAmNotAUserNumber · 05/04/2017 17:58

I've decided - taxi driver did it.
So that probably means he didn't Smile

Flightywoman · 05/04/2017 18:02

Apart from saying sorry a lot Trish doesn't really seem sorry - she shagged him because she knew she could because he's a tart, and she had an itch.

I get that Cath is being a bitch to Trish, but that best friend has just shagged her husband. And I would defy anyone not to feel pissed off and conflicted about that.

I think it's the ex. No idea why yet, I just do!

CremeEggThief · 05/04/2017 18:06

He has a very shifty, sly look about him, Flighty, and he sneaks around a lot too.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 05/04/2017 18:11

DesertIslandPenguin,

"Have we seen much of Beth's baby this series?"

Lizzie (she must be almost 3ish, I think?) has only fleetingly appeared in 2 scenes that I remember:
sitting with Beth and Chloe round garden table when Mark arrived to visit, ep. 1,
and playing on garden rug, last episode, when Beth told Chloe about next day's appt. with divorce solicitor.

About as much (little) as Miller's younger son!

My reasons for suspecting taxi driver:-

  1. He acts creepy, and judging from wife he is a nasty piece of work/dislikes women
  2. He has the means - drives around, plenty of opportunity to spot lone or vulnerable women; is young and capable of that level of force; can hide equipment in car
  3. He has motive re Trish - met her on a date and she (we don't know this) gave him the brush-off, which he really wouldn't have liked even if he didn't lfancy her
  4. Opportunity - always hanging round in his car
Except - the bright shining light does suggest someone was filming the rape, who? Did Rope Boy stumble on them and decide to film it, I think he's already involved in trading and possibly making porn, so this would have been gold to him. And now he can blackmail taxi driver. Another thought - who was the woman TS picked up near Trish's in the first ep? Could that have been Rope Boy's girlfriend? Was there more significance to that scene than simply introducing him?
IAmNotAUserNumber · 05/04/2017 19:04

And he's a fantasist/liar - I don't believe that he was a medical student and gave up his career for his wife.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 05/04/2017 19:06

I wonder what happened to Ellie's dodgy sister?

LilaoftheGreenwood · 05/04/2017 19:23

CoolCarrie now that makes a horrible sense, the surrendered wife is a victim. What was it she said about their relationship to Miller, something to do with forgiveness? We presume she meant forgiveness for him shagging around, but maybe not.

Crickeycrumbsblimey · 05/04/2017 22:21

Didn't the episode where creepy Aaron was introduced discuss him working in IT? Could be a link with the distribution of porn

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 05/04/2017 22:31

A quick interlude of Broadchurch-themed light relief for us all...

I quite enjoyed The Guardian's round-up of this week's episode. I'm away for next week so I shall end up hiding in the bathroom watching it on my iPad.

www.theguardian.com/tv-and-radio/2017/apr/03/broadchurch-recap-series-three-episode-six-the-strangest-stalker-in-all-of-wessex

@ThaliaLuxurySpa thanks for that! I'd quite forgotten that Beth and Mark had had a girl. I thought it was another boy.

I'm coming around to the theory that Joe is covering up for Tom. I always thought Tom's reaction to Danny's death being hatred rather than sadness was weird. Even though he was rightly resentful that his Dad was spending more time with Danny than him, I didn't expect outright hate. I don't think we ever actually saw him being sad about it, did we?!

GirlInterruptedOftenByKids · 05/04/2017 23:17

I think Cath uses Trish to boost her own ego. ..the less attractive friend. So she can't cope at all with Trish sleeping with Jim.

Anyone else think the last episode is going to be really rushed ?

Graphista · 05/04/2017 23:23

Oooooh oooh epiphany!

Joe said Danny was definitely dead when mark turned up with ow as Joe saw him when he was disposing of body - but mark was in car park not easily seen from hut/cliff (I think) so... Does that mean that was when JOE was turning up to the area as TOM had called him in a panic???

Dun dun duuuuuuun!

CarrieBradshawsScrunchie · 06/04/2017 07:48

Interesting, desert and graphista..or did Tom chance upon the weird 'cuddling' and get angry? Is he now heavily into heterosexual porn as a result, ie terrified he'll turn out like his father?

When Joe confessed in series 1 (along with flashback) who was it to and when?

I'm probably completely wrong btw!

IAmNotAUserNumber · 06/04/2017 07:58

I really hope the son didn't kill Danny - that would be too sad. I think an adolescent boy having an interest in viewing porn isn't in itself a sign of creepiness or guilt, depending on what the son is actually viewing. But most boys would simply be doing a search on the internet and finding plenty there - the son's interest/viewing is clearly locally sourced- so how complicit is he in that local industry?

Edsheeranalbumparty · 06/04/2017 08:20

I have to say i don't know that much about internet porn (!) but surely most people just get it from regular sites like Porn Hub, rather than file sharing etc. Would that have to be for more 'specialist' stuff?

And didn't Miller ask where he got it from and he gave an answer that wasn't 'bog standard website' (i cant remember)- wouldn't that make her more suspicious? I don't know? And she knew about Hardy's daughter as well. Why would she just smash it all up without having a proper look, especially as she is a copper? Denial?

IAmNotAUserNumber · 06/04/2017 08:24

Ed yes, I agree.
Re Miller questioning son - she watched a few seconds of the film, then she smashed the laptop and phone, then she asked son where it was from; and his answer was Taxi Driver's son.
I'm assuming the few seconds she watched didn't suggest a local connection to her.

Northumberlandlass · 06/04/2017 08:29

I'm as confused as ever with Broadchurch - I still remember series 1 when our theories were actually better than the story line!

I think the porn 'ring' at the school is central - I reckon that they are filming the rapes / sexual assaults and that is what is one the phones / laptop.

Taxi driver & his wife - I think that is linked in someway, but not sure how.

The Mark storyline was very sad & rather beautifully filmed.

Abraiid2 · 06/04/2017 08:34

I agree about Mark and I didn't much like him before, thought he was being self indulgent in his grief and neglecting the needs of his two surviving children. I was expecting him to attack Joe and thought the better of him when he didn't resort to this.

Edsheeranalbumparty · 06/04/2017 08:48

I think maybe the Taxi driver did it and got his son to film. When the son and Tom left the vicars and Tom immediately got his phone out to look at some more porn 🙄 the step son looked really worried and uncomfortable.

I guess it could just be because they had just been in major trouble for sharing porn and now they were looking at more. But maybe the son knows he has been filming stuff for the dad and is worried that footage of Trish's rape is going to appear. Whereas Tom would have no such worries as he isn't involved in the rape, he just thinks it's a bit of fun?

When those boys called for Hardy's daughter the step son was one of them. Is he like resident camera man? (Yuk)

Also the step son has been in it little enough for him to be unexpectedly involved but not the main culprit iyswim?

Maybe the ex didn't do it, but knows about taxi man's exploits (perhaps through school) and told him at the party that Trish was 'available'.

I don't know how Leo the football twine man fits in, he is dodgy as well. I think he might be in on it as well, maybe helping to set up situations. Maybe it was him that the ex told about the party/Trish's attendance at the party?

I think Jim is just a bellend but didn't rape Trish.

Have just read that back and realised how ridiculous it all sounds!

LIZS · 06/04/2017 10:40

Would it be too obvious for vicar Rory to be involved in the porn circle? There was something about laptops and destroying harddrives in series 1, between him, Tom and Danny. Plumber's mate is also due a larger role. I don't think either Ed or Jim raped Trish.

I think Mark will be found alive but never regain consciousness.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/04/2017 11:10

Unfortunately, the world of Internet porn is more sinister than just downloading. People 'order' specific pornography which is then made to order at a cost. I would imagine that a real rape would possibly be something that could be ordered in this way.
I don't however think there's been enough hints about a porn ring in this series of broadchurch. I think the school boys/ teacher/ rope guy are up to something dodgy but I'm not sure if i think it's that.
It would be quite acceptable an answer for miller's son to have downloaded regular porn, got in trouble, and not learned his lesson, with his mate not wanting any more trouble so looking uncomfortable. Both audio clips have featured a vocal female (not a gagged female) who sounded at least to be acting consensual.
