I missed the bit where you all seem to know that boy is taxi drivers ss... I thought it was his real son.
I think it's the taxi driver and the spyware lad.. They're bother in it somewhere...mind you Trish said the rapist smelt of vodka but he wouldn't be drinking and driving surely...
What else has a vodka aroma??

SoulAccount · 14/04/2017 11:23

I also think Tom could well end up assisting. And, possibly, SS.

SoulAccount · 14/04/2017 11:24

SmartyPants: TaxiMan's wife explained it when she spoke to the police.

qazxc · 14/04/2017 11:26

The creepy taxi guy wife said that she was pregnant before they met. And that's why she overlooks his cheating.

seedsofchange · 14/04/2017 11:27

SS of Taxi driver has also said Taxi driver is his step dad

Dumdedumdedum · 14/04/2017 11:31

I'm confused by the "aroma of vodka", as in my experience, (albeit limited, as I don't drink it), it is odourless.

VanillaSugar · 14/04/2017 11:38

lila thank you for the S1 recap - that answers a lot of questions. Roll on Monday!

ElspethFlashman · 14/04/2017 11:41

Didn't she just say he reeked of spirits though?

Who said it was vodka?

VanillaSugar · 14/04/2017 11:43

Would something else containing alcohol give off "vodka" fumes? I'm thinking along the lines of surgical spirit. How about (pure speculation) the rapist doused him/herself in surgical spirit to minimise any DNA going onto Trish? I'm not a medic. I have no idea how plausible this idea could be.

What subject does Ian teach. Is it Biology? If so, he'd have access to lab sterilizing liquids. Trots off to Google

ScrambledSmegs · 14/04/2017 11:46

I think the 'aroma of vodka' is unscented/unflavoured cheap alcohol. I have some cheap stuff leftover from a party as someone brought it and unsurprisingly didn't take it home with them. It's eye-watering if you sniff it but has no discernible scent.

I did wonder if they were signalling they the rapist was a diabetic at first, as untreated people can sometimes smell like alcohol. However I think that's more fruity than anything.

VanillaSugar · 14/04/2017 11:47

Yup, Ian is a science teacher.

ReggaeShark · 14/04/2017 11:49

Someone said vodka. Maybe 2nd victim?

SapphireStrange · 14/04/2017 11:50

Didn't she just say he reeked of spirits though? Who said it was vodka?

Good point. I think she DID just say spirits. And one of the other rape victims said 'strong spirits' or something.

hollyisalovelyname · 14/04/2017 12:32

SmartyPants
'........ but he wouldn't be drinking and driving surely'

But he might be raping a woman !

purplepaisley · 14/04/2017 17:39

Didn't Ian say that he'd been drinking tequila and then blacked out?

It occurred to me that the keyring with the picture of Trish and daughter might belong to Ian rather than Trish - don't know how that fits into anything though!

makushla · 14/04/2017 17:43

Nige is back on Monday.

DubiousCredentials · 14/04/2017 17:57

Ian obv was out in the trees that night as he was seen hastily stuffing his clothes from the party into the washing machine back in an earlier episode. And I'm pretty sure the trousers had grassy knees but I may have imagined that.

LifeOfBriony · 14/04/2017 18:35

Surely the police would know if Twine Boy lived in the cottage overlooking the lake at Axehampton? They have interviewed him; wouldn't they have to ask his name and address as part of the interview?

I was thinking about the significance of the dates; they are in or close to half term. The police don't seem to be following that line of enquiry, however. The May dates have Kath's birthday in common, and she was away on the dates in question (or has changed her calendar to make it look that way). Kath believes Jim to be the rapist, or wants it to be Jim, or perhaps wants to punish him for cheating on her.

Taxi Man seems to me to be the most likely rapist; he is contemptuous of women and certainly has the opportunity. Then there's the trophy drawer, although that could be stuff his passengers have left in his cab.
He could have acted alone, shining a phone light into Trish's face to prevent her identifying him.

As a pp said, Trish's ex's secret was the spyware and Ed's secret the stalker pictures. Have I missed someone?

I think that Mark surviving being pulled out of the water is intended to be the beginning of closure and moving on for him, thus bringing Danny's story to an end.

Like others, I do hope the rapist won't turn out to be one of the peripheral characters.

iklboo · 14/04/2017 20:18

Didn't Kath say something like 'I could burn your whole world' to Jim?

DubiousCredentials · 14/04/2017 20:45

I'm sure they had the name of the person who lived in the cottage and just said they were away. Didn't the approach to it sort of face the spot where the rape occurred?
Trish did think the light may have been headlights or light in the distance, maybe approaching the cottage, although the flashback did look more like a mobile phone light.

LifeOfBriony · 14/04/2017 21:11

Yes, ikiboo she did. She seemed quite shaken/shocked when she found the condoms and realised the implication.

I thought the cottage was across the lake from the scene of crime. in daylight the cottage's garden might have a view of the spot where it happened.

Looking forward to Monday's episode. I hope I can watch it before catching any spoilers - DH doesn't like it so I've been recording it.

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 14/04/2017 22:51

Anyone able to answer this for me?
What's the legal situation regarding C of E vicars and them either reporting, or respecting confidentiality of, criminal confessions?

I don't think RevPaul's the rapist (of Trish or the others), but he's nonetheless privy to a lot of other people's confidences and trust.
And didn't he/ doesn't he still attend AA meetings, where anonymity and privacy is key?
So may be very aware who's guilty, yet church rules prevent him taking it further Hmm

It was Kath – either her (no attacker seen) or someone she has set up to do it.

No traces of sperm.

All the women connected to her husband.

She said 'I'm so sorry'.

They keep referring to 'the man' who did this.

CoolCarrie · 14/04/2017 23:23

I also thought it was Cath awhile back, but the dna thing has changed my mind, however as pp have said the dna from the sock could be from any of the football players.

scoobyloobyloo · 14/04/2017 23:34

Surely she has access to the socks?
