They looked surprised when they saw the DNA results so...
-no one in the database (the husband?)
-the vicar
-the one who put the spyware on...DNA comes back a close match and it ends up as his dad's DNA (Oo could also be the husband that is his Dad and it's his secret son and that's why he helped him so much and didn't want to give DNA)

TizzyDongue · 11/04/2017 08:17

The DNA was on record wasn't it?

I'm wondering if it isn't any current suspects DNA, but from DNA previously held. Maybe series 1? Mind you I can't recall if DNA was taken in series 1!!

Mark? (Though another husband of a main character would be silly)

MattBerrysHair · 11/04/2017 08:18

My theory is that Leo and taxi man are working together breaking into houses and putting spyware on women's devices in order to watch them having sex. I think that's where the objects in the drawer come from, trophies from the break in. The cheeky smile they have each other in episode 6 hints at a very familiar relationship between them, and Leo's speech at the police station was an act to put the police off him. Also, his socks and twine were used on Trish.

Ed, Jim and the ex are innocent of the rape, but are examples of how misogyny is ingrained into society. Their 'needs' trump a woman's right to respect, privacy, autonomy, leading them to violate women without violence.

SoulAccount · 11/04/2017 08:29

How come Mansion Man found the sock so long after the attack? Surely the police had done a 'fingertip ' search if the grounds?

Ditto the bag. Wouldn't the area have been sealed off once the rape had been reported and until after a fingertip search?

SoulAccount · 11/04/2017 08:29

Anyway, I wonder if the sock isn't a plant.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 08:33

Didn't hardy say the DNA was 'one of our suspects' or one of our 'men' or similar, then they did that montage of Ian, taxi man, ed etc? So rather than it being someone on file its someone they have already suspected.

MsJuniper · 11/04/2017 08:34

I'm still convinced it's the vicar, since his insistence that Trish should go and talk to him.

Bellini12 · 11/04/2017 08:43

Remember Trish said that when she was being taped she saw a light? Could that be a recording of some sort? So twine boy and taxi man filmed it?

I still suspect the owner of the venue. They've underused a well-known actor so far!

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/04/2017 08:43

I'll be very disappointed if it turns out not to be one of "our" suspects; e.g. If they say the DNA belongs to Mr Smith (previously unseen) who then confesses Confused it will have made the whole 8 weeks pointless for the viewers.
How did the clues stack up against Joe Miller over the weeks in S1? I can't remember, although I think it was very subtle?

TizzyDongue · 11/04/2017 08:51

Right so does anyone know exactly what the wording was around the sock DNA!?

FeralBeryl · 11/04/2017 08:52

Do you remember when Mansion man first told the police about the wheelbarrow full of stuff found on the grounds he said his wife had found it.
Could she have been the woolly gloved hand picking up the bag? Could she be Leo's mum and knows he is up to no good and is trying to get him caught? Or removed the evidence and planted it to detract from him?

Flightywoman · 11/04/2017 08:58

Hardy didn't say anything about the owner of the DNA - as far as I can recall. I thought he said male DNA but nothing more...

Waitingforsherlock · 11/04/2017 08:59

I think twine boy's behaviour during interview was all an act- specifically remember ominous music as he piled all the football socks into a wash bag on the pitch during one episode.

Ian is a real creep but I am not sure he did it. Jim a misogynist, that comment about having a better offer, horrible. Although Kath did say something about having stuff on him so she thinks he has done something. Don't think it is Ed. Taxi driver may be too obviously horrible, but think there is a connection to him and the porn.

In other words I don't have a clue.

Love the DILF comment about David Tennant. Grin

LocalEditorSutton · 11/04/2017 09:04

Watched it last night and had this feeling it could be Mark Latimer too!

Fizzingwhizbees · 11/04/2017 09:10

Did we ever find out who the owner of the cottage on the estate was? Seems like too big a hole not to revisit.

WonderMike · 11/04/2017 09:24

It's Roy Huddersfield, innit Grin Why get such a famous actor in, for just one line?

2014newme · 11/04/2017 09:24

They took dna from the party guests.

Mark, vicar etc were not at the party.

DubiousCredentials · 11/04/2017 09:27

I knew it was Joe Miller v early on in series 1 because he was the only person not under suspicion.

Confusicous · 11/04/2017 09:27

Couldn't end up being Joe could it? That's too flimsy

I suspect Cath and someone are framing Jim

Clawdy · 11/04/2017 09:31

If it is Mansion Man, it will be a bit of a let-down. He's hardly featured in it at all. I hate it when the culprit turns out to be someone you don't really know.

Abraiid2 · 11/04/2017 09:42

Mansion man seems too county to own something like a fishing tackle business unless he has risen up the social strata like lightning. I will feel let down if it is him, too.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 10:07

'More than that, there are traces of one of our men's dna on the sock'

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 10:08

Although if it was a dirty sock worn by one of the lads at a football match and not yet washed, this doesn't mean it was that man who did it.

hackmum · 11/04/2017 10:21

I really don't think it can be Mark or the vicar. That would pretty much piss all over the previous series of Broadchurch and what we know about those characters.

I reckon the only man who isn't under suspicion is DI Alec Hardy, so it has to be him. The shock reveal. Grin

Ferrisday · 11/04/2017 10:32

Just a small point.
Most of the time with football kits, the dirty kits get put into a big bag and washed together.
So could be any of the teams dna?
