Well big shiny gold medal for SapphireStrange on it being Spyware that CreepyHusband had installed. I'm not going to listen to anyone but you now!!!

Can you explain one thing to me: why the HELL would an attractive young woman want to sleep with Jim? Found that wired. Are we supposed to believe that who ever he finds attractive wants to sleep with him too. Maybe I'd believe it if he were a man in a powerful position or wealthy, or more both.

It's taxi man or Jim I think. Or possibly not.

Destinysdaughter · 10/04/2017 23:50

From Twitter:

How has Hardy never heard of the word DILF before? If you look up DILF in the dictionary, it's just a picture of his face #broadchurch

That demonstration reminded me of something that actually happens there once a year. They have a summer carnival in August and there is a nightlife procession where they all walk from Bridport to Westbay all carrying lit torches, ( inc children ) and Chuck them on a big bonfire!

Could Trish's daughter have anything to do with it? Could the key ring be hers, not her mums?
Roll on next week!

CoolCarrie · 11/04/2017 00:02

I am sure the only one who didn't give a DNS sample was Trish's arse husband, all the others did.

CoolCarrie · 11/04/2017 00:04

The actor who plays Jim was on today and he is very attractive IRL! Nice voice and better haircut, he was a real bastard in Home Fires as well.

numberseven · 11/04/2017 04:39

Yep, so I think it will turn out the rapes were all by different people.

Yeh. That will be the point. How common this is and how common those blokes' attitudes towards women are. And the young ones watching porn who will grow up to be like them.

SoulAccount · 11/04/2017 05:17

Presumably the SpyWare captured Trish having sex with Jim?
And Ian will have seen it?

And twine boy may well have seen it and distributed it? (Though he seemed genuine in his explanation about Ian having supported him, so maybe wouldn't have done that).

SoulAccount · 11/04/2017 05:19

What was Cath frantically looking for amongst the files etc?

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/04/2017 06:55

Trish's ex refused to give sample but surely by now the police would have leaned heavily on him to do so, given that he is a credible suspect because a) he is her ex b) no alibi and c) the spyware stuff.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 07:07

Oooooh it's getting good now!

I did think mark would survive, but disappointingly I don't feel a big reveal coming from Joe. I think they'll use his surviving to reach some end of series 'closure' for the Latimers, as it appears they are making a go of it (or at least Chloe's trying to engineer that? Beth didn't look so keen!)

I said at the beginning that I thought it was a woman who moved the carrier bag with the rope, and obviously it wasn't Katie as she's just found it, but perhaps it was taxi man's wife? Perhaps she's been made to dispose of it somehow or similar. She knows more about her husband than we know, what drove her to suddenly go to the garage and start searching through his stuff. She knows something.

I think Jim has had multiple affairs but not sure he's the rapist. The fact he recalled Laura benson though would suggest he did show up to fix her car.

But why would finding condoms make Kath go straight to the police? Why would they take that so seriously? Common brand of condom. Plus didn't they already find and dismiss condoms found in someone's car??

I think Leo is lying and putting on the sincere act. If he installed spyware that Ian could access online, then he could also access it. He is also on the football team, so has access to the same socks, plus in the previous ep he said he was washing the kit 'again' (or actually his girlfriend was). So he had access to everyone's socks and Dna, and if you were going to gag someone with a sock, wouldn't you choose someone else's?

I'm erring on the side of it being Leo, and taxi man is just a sideline. He seems too obviously evil doesn't he? We know Leo's alibi is faked and he got the gf to lie, but we don't know what we've heard now is the truth.

TizzyDongue · 11/04/2017 07:23

Cathy and the condoms, I think it was the time and place of purchase on the receipt. He left just before the party and went to buy condoms. So obviously for use at party .

I did feel Leo was a bit too 180 on cocky arrogant boy to innocent poor me boy once in front of cops.

Who were the three boys Hardy said he'd chop the small cocks off? Taxi man's notson and ???

DubiousCredentials · 11/04/2017 07:25

Jim knew Laura Benson because he'd recovered her car and taken her back home at some point before the rape, not at the time of the rape. It was just used to prove a connection between them rather than in the unreported rape where the woman had called for the breakdown truck but it didn't turn up.

Fizzingwhizbees · 11/04/2017 07:25

Cath went to the police because of the timing on the receipt, Trish confirming her rapist had used a condom, and the fact that they'd already arrested Jim so it seems like relevant information. I really hope she isn't involved somehow. It would undermine the message of the series if a woman was the perpetrator IMO.

CoolCarrie · 11/04/2017 07:25

I think it's Lenny, did anyone notice his daughter said to him, it's never your fault, is it? Every time, it's never your fault, as if he was always screwing things up.
I don't know if she was talking about his relationship with her or her mother, or something else, in the past. She also said you have lost me my job. The bag he found at the end could have been planted by her, to get back at him

SoulAccount · 11/04/2017 07:39

But where would Katie have hit that bag?

It was removed from the scene at night by a gloved hand, before the police were involved.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/04/2017 07:43

So the bag that we all saw early on being removed from the scene was not removed by the police but by the perp who then planted it at the farm shop?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 07:43

I half expected miller's son to come round the corner and join those 3 lads. That would have been awkward!

It's the same 3 lads that called round for daisy earlier in the series. At least taxi man's step-son looked a bit sheepish.

Cut your tiny little cocks off. Line of the series for me.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 11/04/2017 07:45

I do enjoy the scenes where Hardy and Miller do their assertive parenting.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/04/2017 07:51

Iamnot yes, at the end of either episode 1 or 2 a gloved hand reached out and picked up the bag, I guess suggesting they knew what was in it rather than were innocently finding it as they attempt to prevent leaving prints. Where has it been all this time though? Who has then gone to LH's land and left it there.

Now, my ancient theatre studies A level which I failed would lead me to infer that the juxtaposition of LH finding the bag and the next scene with taxi man returning home to find wifey rifling through his trophy cabinet means that he was out dumping the bag at the time she was doing that. I'm probably totally wrong (see above re: failed A Level!) but I think that's what they want us to think. I think wifey was made to hide the bag and now suspects something is up. She saw porn on his computer which led to that unpleasant conversation and i think she's put 2 +2 together. Perhaps she was looking for the bag which she was made to retrieve and couldn't find it, but did find the trophy drawer??

CoolCarrie · 11/04/2017 07:52

The bag was removed after the police got involved, at the end of the first episode, I think, someone wearing a hi vis jacket and gloves, could have been a woman

LIZS · 11/04/2017 07:58

Maybe Laura had got through to Cath who didn't pass the message on , thinking she was another of Jim's conquests. Hence why he never showed up with his breakdown truck.

Did Nigel the plumber's mate have a family , other than Pauline Quirke, could fishing twine bloke be related to him or landowner? Would taxi driver's gf name not have come up on the guest list?

hackmum · 11/04/2017 08:02

I think the rapist was the same guy - wasn't it the case with all of them that they were gagged and said that the rapist smelled of vodka? And with the first two it happened when they were walking across a field. Trish's rape was also outside. So it suggest a common modus operandi.

With stuff like this, it's always the person who isn't a suspect. So in my view it can't be Jim, or Ed or Ian. I don't think it can even be taxi driver or twine boy. But then I'm running out of men who aren't suspects: the guy who owns the party venue? Mark?! One of the younger boys, e.g. taxi-driver's stepson? Miller's dad? (though that would be unfair, really).

The other clue we have is that the attacks always happen in summer. Don't know what the significance of that is, though.

Sairelou · 11/04/2017 08:07

I reckon Ian planted the bag. He seemed to have a vendetta against Ed in the last episode (remember him talking to rope boy when he was trying to convince him to delete the spyware). And in the episode before he went to the farm shop under the pretence of hiring a caravan, even though he "knew" Ed's wouldn't let him.
And if Ian's girlfriend had kicked him out, where is he living now?
I reckon he did it.
