Hope OP of Thread 1, southeastdweller, doesn't mind me starting this, but MNers are enjoying it too much to abandon the analysis just yet Wink

On you go, people...

..and also, a reason for kays murder was because she wouldnt shut up about Paulas dead child???? Totally unrealistic.

Every time either Ellen or Ian parked their SUV outside their achingly trendy mews house, they blocked the bloody road!
No-one could drive past.
I nearly started a spoof MN parking thread about it!

Yes neveradull I thought that at the end the twist would be that the police would be coming to arrest Ellen for kidnap. But they arrested Paula who was with them (for some reason). She wasn't in handcuffs when they came in with her then they put handcuffs on. She didn't seem surprised to see Ellen alive.

Re: Kay murder scenario. Paula said, 'she just wouldn't shut up about Caris' (something like that), and I took that as an implication of motive.
And when Kay phoned Ellen maybe she was saying that she'd worked it all out, that Caris was dead, etc

But still doesn't explain why Kay was at the site at night.

Plot was full of holes but the parking that clicked the whole news was the most irritating thing Smile

Ah I got Paula and Ellen mixed up! I think Kay called Ellen re her husband having the affair with Helen!

Who did the car and garage belong to?

Still can't work out the reasoning behind Paula having Georgia's car.

I get that she clings on to anything which reminds her of Caris, but surely stashing the very vehicle responsible for her daughter's death is beyond gruesome, even for Paula's skewed logic???

The police would have impounded the car whilst forensics investigation etc. was underway, and then am pretty sure Georgia, presumably traumatised by accidentally killing a child, would want nothing whatsoever to do with the bloody thing...surely would refuse the further connection with Paula that giving/ selling it to her would result in?

Unless guilt and emotional blackmail overcame her reservations, I suppose.

The biggest anomaly, though: would the police really let Georgia off a prosecution (hit-and-run death by dangerous driving/ manslaughter?), even though she was distraught and on way to seriously ill child in hospital?

Hmm Hmm

Any lawyers on this thread?

YY about the parking. I noticed that too.

YY the parking made no sense.

Must remember not to buy that brand of car, either. If the air bag needs to go off I want it to cushion me from the dash, not smash the windscreen...

I thought that at the end the twist would be that the police would be coming to arrest Ellen for kidnap. But they arrested Paula who was with them (for some reason).

According to that Radio Times interview, Paula gave herself up as her intention wasn't to harm the baby but to punish Ellen for being a bad mother. I still can't see the logic of it, though, because presumably she could have returned Lia quite easily without giving herself up - and surely if that was what the writer wanted to convey he should bloody well have provided a scene showing her giving herself up.

pickleme, that was my thought about the airbag! And I still don't know why Ellen would have assumed that the airbag would smash the screen.

I'm wondering if there will be another series.

First two episodes were great. Agree the last was a bit shite in places. Acting, sets, clothes and setting in Glasgow were all great though.

I thought Georgia was the one who called the cops after Ellen tells her she knows what happened. Then when Paula sees them in the architects office she loses it completely?

Cot on the windowsill and car thing were daft but I liked the bit at the end with the kid.

I would like another series to answer the Kay question. Maybe a prelude shining what happened at college. More about the sister too. She rocked.

Whoever wrote the last episode should be hauled on here to answer angry
Mumsnetter's questions.
It was an insult to our intelligence.
Taking all those tablets and yet being in a fit state to hot wire a car ?
And the police arrive at the library with Paula and arrest her there?
Yeah right !

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 17:11

I think someone said upthread that they'd announced there won't be another series. Just as well, really.

hollyisalovelyname · 16/03/2017 17:38

Whoever commissioned it for the BBC should also be hauled on to this Mumsnet thread and made read all the absurdities in the third episode found by Mumsnetters.
Bet they'd squirm- they couldn't defend the indefensible 😀

The writer was on BBC Breakfast TV and said there wasn't going to be another series. I think he also said that Ellen realised where the baby was hidden (in the library) whilst having a hallucination on the pills Paula gave her (but we didn't see that - perhaps I hallucinated that the writer said that!) and that Paula gave herself up to the police as she didn't want the baby harmed- just for Ellen to see the error of her ways- again not shown in the programme.

He also said Boss guy came down the stairs at the graveyard to show there was hope for their friendship.

Crap - you shouldn't have to go on TV the day after your show airs to explain the ins and outs of the plot and expect viewers to infer things they have not been shown!

Why the hell would she take all of those tablets ???? Which then seemed to have no effect other than a 2 second hallucination !!!

I watched Paula getting arrested with the subtitles on and you can't really hear it but they arrest her under the child abduction act. Presumably she went to them and confessed. It started with promise but the last episode was ridiculous. Nice scenery and outfits though so not all bad!

Just read his explanation and still doesn't make sense, we didn't see any hallucination did we, and if Paula gave herself up to the police for child abduction and just wanted Ellen to see the error of her ways why did she attempt to murder her?!
