Hope OP of Thread 1, southeastdweller, doesn't mind me starting this, but MNers are enjoying it too much to abandon the analysis just yet Wink

On you go, people...

OP posts:

Oh and my flat there was in an episode of Taggart

Exterior only Grin

TizzyDongue · 16/03/2017 09:07

Also why was she banned from contact with her daughter?

RockyBird · 16/03/2017 09:21

Violence? Pushing Paula down the stairs...even though she didn't.

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 09:23

Just in case I should ever find myself locked in a disabled car, could someone explain how setting off the airbag would help me to escape?

RockyBird · 16/03/2017 09:28

Well the airbag apparently burst the windscreen she wasn't able to kick out.

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 09:31

I know the idea was that Georgia did what Paula wanted because she felt so guilty, but would anyone feel so guilty that it would lead them to lie so that a complete stranger might potentially have her baby taken into care?

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 09:34

When, as a scriptwriter, you have to explain all the plot holes in the Radio Times, you should realise that you've fallen down on your job.

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/03/2017 10:08

She was having wobbles about being pregnant, not about having a baby

I could understand all that. But at the beginning, she seemed to have a grudge against Paula for absolutely no reason at all (which I also understand for narrative purposes).

But then they took Ellen into stalker territory, sitting outside her work, looking into Paula's history on nothing more than a hunch and an unreasonable dislike of her because she good at her job.

Then boom! at the the last minute, Ellen was right all along!

Nope, I'm not buying it, sorry. I really didn't take to Ellen at all.

TheHiphopopotamus · 16/03/2017 10:11

I've never seen the A word by the way, but I remember Morven Christie from Lost In Austen and I liked her in that, so I don't think it was the actress that bothered me, it was definitely the character.

FurryTurnip · 16/03/2017 10:13

Just finished watching the last episode. What a load of shit. More plot holes than I could even list. Really lazy attention to detail. Utter bollocks. Still, Line of Duty is back soon so I may forgive Vicky McClure for being in that sack of shit.

SuperFlyHigh · 16/03/2017 10:18

Ian was an absolute tosser, from getting sole custody of baby to getting a paternity test done... I hope Ellen had the good sense to LTB.

His mum was surprisingly nice.

And what was with him speaking/listening to Paula when she came to his office? Surely most sane psychiatrists would be "get out!". Or have better security.

GurneyGob · 16/03/2017 11:28

He was a pretty awful psychiatrist. So many plot holes - made it totally unbelievable. It was a very well behaved new baby - no problems sleeping or feeding - no one even seem to consider that Ellen might have PND and had been in a shocking situation with Kay - surely she would have been having therapy, her DH would have been compassionate. It would have been easy to contact the partners at Paula's old firm - di they not do this as part of the referencing. The world of Architecture is pretty small, most know and have worked with other patners and associates in local firms - easy to get info on people.

Do you think that the boss (Dougray Scott character) did murder the wife ? Paula didn't exactly admit the murder she just said Kay wouldn't shut up about Caris. I felt that could be a series 2 plot line (if they make one) Sorry if this has been discussed earlier in the thread.

The jump from Paula hanging out and being nice with Ellen's guy to suddenly stealing the baby was too sudden.

Deadsouls · 16/03/2017 11:30

Yes I have to say I was thrown by the husband/psychiatrist thing. For one, it's totally unethical to start a relationship with someone you've previously treated.

GurneyGob · 16/03/2017 11:31

What message was the programme sending - that Paula was right and mum's should always stay home with their babies and be fecund to keep their men happy???.

Kay had problems in her marriage due to her not wanting to have a baby.
Paula believed a mum should spend all her time with a child.
Ellen's husband's mum had regrets about how her son had turned out since she had pursued her career over staying home.

Deadsouls · 16/03/2017 11:33

I still don't understand why Kay was at the library and why she was so upset, and why she called Ellen to come.

SuperFlyHigh · 16/03/2017 11:35

Gurney certainly seemed that way, do as Paula says and stay home with your baby!

Kay felt guilty obviously by losing her child and felt a void - understandable though.

And Ian's mum agreed, regrets re working and going after a career rather than staying at home.

Very 1950s skewed housewife ideas re mothers and babies there!

SuperFlyHigh · 16/03/2017 11:35

Deadsouls was that when they had their "scrap"?

Deadsouls · 16/03/2017 11:40

The bit where Kay called Ellen at night and said, 'please can you come, it's all going wrong', she was upset. Then Ellen went to the library.
And that's when Kay fell from the skylight. I don't get it. What was she doing there and why did she call Kay? Who killed her? Or did she jump?
What was she upset about?
Did she really think that dougray Scott character was in love with Ellen or did he just make that up after?

And WHY did Paula have the car that killed her daughter (Georgia's car) in her garage?
Confused

Deadsouls · 16/03/2017 11:40

I mean what was Kay calling Ellen about? Is it all a mystery?

SuperFlyHigh · 16/03/2017 12:21

deadsouls yes I wasn't sure about that... From the last programme it seems as if now the reason is that maybe Kay was wanting to smooth over re her talking about Caris with Paula but why at night?

Paula apparently killed Kay, she admitted that.

I didn't know about the car being the same one Georgia had that is a bit weird.

GurneyGob · 16/03/2017 12:32

If Kay had found out that Paula had a child who had been killed and was in denial about it and that was all she wanted to tell Ellen surely she would have popped round Ellen's house for a chat or arranged to meet at a cafe - not call her and tell her to come late at night to a building site Ellen was banned from.
Also why would Kay be checking out the work on the LIbrary - it was not her project. So did Paula manage to push Kay through the skylight and then scuttle off before the cops arrived ?

soupmaker · 16/03/2017 12:44

Agent I managed somehow to keep clear of the Balti Club, not so much The Drake for lunch though! I know what you mean about the Sainsbury's staff, my favourite is the cheery man who is usually on the petrol only till.

Megatherium · 16/03/2017 13:01

I assume Kay was upset and called Ellen because she believed that she had been sleeping with Kay's husband, and didn't want to go to her house because Ellen's husband could be here. Maybe she just chose the library as a neutral space that she happened to have access to.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2017 13:34

I thought Ellen was poisoned. How the hell did she manage to move all the furniture to block the doors of the car??? So much did not make sense or is unresolved. It was a dreadful ending.

neveradullmoment99 · 16/03/2017 13:35

I thought Ellen was going to be charged with kidnap of the baby. Who explained it all to the police? A lot of tosh.
