I've got it on and just found this interview with Stefani Martini, who's playing Jane

Sort of watching. I'm really worried it's gong to be some rip off of the Philip Glenister thing

I missed it as I was out so will try & watch it on catch up.
However I read the book it's based on last year.

The wallpaper in her bedroom looked like Cath Kidston

I thought the same about the wallpaper Coco and it made me smile.

Am sticking with it.

She's got the right voice.

Thought it was pretty good.

I enjoyed it, I liked how the actor playing the part of Tennyson managed to portray some on the mannerisms of the older Tennyson, some of her facial expressions etc.
Re the wallpaper: Iwas in a babysitting circle in the early 80's, one of the houses had that very same wallpaper.

It was pretty good; I was a bit irritated that she was pretty much the only good-looking person in it - not that good-looking people aren't entitled to have careers as police officers (or actors!) but I prefer the more natural appearance of Olivia Coleman, Nicola Walker or any number of Scandi-drama police.

It was quite good. i liked the music.
does make you wonder why they do this though.
are we supposed to recognise anyone apart from Jane Tennyson, because I dont.

The sexism might get on your nerves if they keep it up. at least Life on Mars was funny.

The sexism in the 70s must have been awful, i was only 8 in 73, but the tv was full of comedians such as jim davidson and equality wasn't really heard of!
I only watched about 15 minutes and taped the rest, but it did remind of life on mars and ashes to ashes. At least in A to A Keeley hawes's character was feisty and stuck up for herself! Its another drama though, have enough going on with the replacement and Broadchurch 3!

Yes, and I imagine doubly so if you were in a boys clubby institution like the police force.

I enjoyed it - I thought it was well plotted and decently acted and, joy of joys, I could understand every word the characters said. Which is more than I can say for some recent BBC dramas!

I liked it more than I thought I would, but thought it was a bit one dimensional. The heavy handed reference to being on the Pill ' it's 1973!' , no real sense as to why Jane was so driven to join the police.

Will watch the next episode though.

I thought it was a bit meh. The feel of the time was accurate though; dodgy brown decor, loads of rampant sexism and a generally down-at-heel look in the police station.

Despite this, it didn't grab me much, and I think "Jane" was too pretty for Tennyson.

Quite enjoyed. It seemed to be a more serious version of Life On Mars. I also thought Jane looked quite glamouress, although put that down to her being the posh one.

I thought tbe sexism aspects were quite subtle.
She wasn't going to be overly fiesty like in Life on Mars because this is how it was. She hasn't come from the future where things have progressed.
I loved the other WPC in it.

unless I was looking for it since the paper mentioned it.
there was a shot of one of the male police officers leering at her. but again I might have been looking out for the sexism.

I'm not surprised that the sexism seems quite heavy handed in this because thinking back to the first Prime Suspect set n the mid-nineties, Jane Tennison was still fighting sexism from her colleagues and boss despite the fact that that she had risen through the ranks to the level at which she could take control of a murder case (and I think it took a lot of persuasion and pressing from her before they would allow her to do that). I can only imagine that sexism was pretty blatant twenty-five years prior to that.

In general I enjoyed it more than I thought I would and I could see flashes of the older Jane Tennison. I'm guessing that the DI is going to be quite influential in the development of her character. He seems more reasonable than his colleagues - at the moment.

I read the book recently and wasn't keen enough to watch. It all felt a bit laboured.
