Anyone watching?

OP posts:
DubiousCredentials · 10/03/2017 12:00

That's very poor research if that's true!

Polarbearflavour · 10/03/2017 12:10

I used to work at Homerton Smile

Don't know why but it grated on me! The old Hackney Hospital was a dump apparently. The main building is still there, being made into million pound flats probably like all old hospitals.

MrsMarigold · 10/03/2017 12:13

Helen Mirren was good, lower middle class but this new Jane is just too middle class and gauche. I can't be bothered, also it's a bit slow.

NormaSmuff · 11/03/2017 07:15

I suspect the body floating in the river is the missing Eddie?

DubiousCredentials · 11/03/2017 07:36

Yes I assume so too. I just thought it odd that there was a blink-and-you'll-miss-it shot and then nothing else.

topcat2014 · 11/03/2017 09:19

We just watched the first two back to back yesterday. I liked it - especially the advice of the other WPC.

Didn't notice inbetweeners neil - will have to look out.

Mind you, I tend to notice all the cars myself nerd

It fascinates me that real life modern people will have a 1970s police vauxhall viva tucked away as their pride and joy - just ready to let it out to film crews etc.

I wasn't expecting life on mars style - as that had a bit of parody to it. This seems nearer what things could have been like.

As regards the buildings - I spend ten years in the Special Constabulary in 1990s - and the buildings were still crap.

Thinkingblonde · 11/03/2017 09:32

I read the book and so far it's pretty much as the book is written.
There's a nice little twist at the end of the book so hopefully the TV series stay with it.

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2017 11:49

The cars are so well preserved and shiny! The real owners much watchand worry when they are being used. Do they get paid for hiring them out?
I like the other policewoman more than jane.

Slightlyperturbedowlagain · 12/03/2017 13:03

Grin DH and I noticed that about the cars- he remembers they were far more likely to have been driving rust-buckets

The80sweregreat · 12/03/2017 13:29

Yes, the cars are straight out of a museum. Back when cars had characters!

OrangeStar · 12/03/2017 16:11

I watched it. What a load of rubbish it was too. NOTHING LIKE Prime Suspect in terms of script and quality of acting Angry!

Vq1970 · 12/03/2017 19:47

We watched both episodes last night and I enjoyed it. I didn't watch Prime Suspect originally and wasn't going to watch this but I loved Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes, partly because of the era it was set in so decided to give this a go.

I love seeing all the old cars and the soundtrack is brilliant. I want that wallpaper she had in her bedroom! And I love seeing Neil from the Inbetweeners with his dodgy 'tache!

I also presume the floater is the missing Eddie.

Davros · 20/03/2017 20:55

Still enjoying it, anyone else? Her eyebrows are all wrong for the era

tribpot · 20/03/2017 20:57

I gave up. The acting just really wasn't up to it and the plot too slow.

GloriaV · 30/03/2017 21:59

I'm being distracted by the dire haircuts.
And her eyebrows would have been find arches. Never big and black like that.

stonecircle · 30/03/2017 23:05

God this is so turgid I've no idea why I'm still watching. I started the book but LLP's incredibly laboured writing style really grated so I gave up.

The dramatisation is no better. Flat, wooden characters, drawn out plot etc. There never seem to be any members of the public about when they're shooting outside etc.

I thought it was bizarre tonight that Jane went to her parents' and then got changed into that nighty-like bridesmaid's dress, then went back there after the wedding, but decided not to change back into her ordinary clothes before heading off to the police station!

I feel I've got to see it through to the end - I just hope there's only one more episode!

Thinkingblonde · 30/03/2017 23:36

I wore a bridesmaid dress like that, mine was a lemon floral sprigged pattern. Hand made by me.
The wedding dress was similar to mine too.

Davros · 31/03/2017 00:13

Photo?
I feel I have to see it through too. Haven't watched tonight's yet

SophieGiroux · 31/03/2017 23:04

I loved the ending of the latest episode, can't wait for next Thursday!

RandomDent · 31/03/2017 23:08

It's like Heartbeat, but later. The clothes/music are so Obvious, and it's taking away from the drama.

topcat2014 · 01/04/2017 09:48

so it hasnt finished yet? i was worried that was the end!

MaryQuant · 01/04/2017 15:24

Struggling big time with this -makes me want to watch the very first Helen Mirren one

NigellasGuest · 01/04/2017 21:06

DH says it's a police version of Mind the Midwife. I think he meant Call the Midwife

Megatherium · 01/04/2017 22:48

The trouble with prequels is that it takes the suspense element away when you know that the main character (a) has to survive and (b) can't be kicked out of the police force or resign.

CoolCarrie · 06/04/2017 22:35

Well it was ok, but not worth making another series to be honest, just as I thought the boss/ boyfriend was married. One interesting thing was a old style bottle of Lucozade, with the cellophane wrapped around it was in one scene! Wonder where they got that?
