I imagine the scriptwriters are using common responses to rape and dispelling the myths however, such as we now know that trish was relatively promiscuous (6 people since her divorce) , was having casual sex /one night stands (with kath's husband she just 'wanted sex') - which I'd imagine are all arguments that have been presented by defence lawyers and have got rapists off in the past. Similarly, if as pp's have suggested she is a sex worker that is another one that I imagine is used as defence in trials etc. I think this series is particularly well written for that reason.
I am more confused than ever after last night though!

I think they're only bringing the Latimers into it because they feel like they have to. Weren't they heavily criticised for the two threads
(Court case / other murder) running parallel with no relationship in the second series?

It is incredibly well written. I loved the bit last night where Cath told them about the post-rape football match and they just stared at her and then said "And people are coming to it?" incredulously.

Yes it was a bit weird that out of 50 broadchurch residents from the party, the only ones who played football were the ones who were a) suspects/have been questioned or b) otherwise involved (like the Latimers). And the editor of the paper?( perhaps lead scriptwriter was off that day??)

Oh and one other thing that comes to mind.... If the 2nd (or actually first chronologically) rape was by the same rapist then it possibly rules out miller's son. He's only 16 isn't he, so would have been 14 at the time of that attack- I know it's possible, but unlikely that someone would be raped by a child and not realise it was a child?

Was Beth Latimer raped? Or sexually assaulted? Did the guy ever get caught for that, as part of the show or was it just something in the past and talked about? Could it be him??

Just watched. Yes I thought that about the football match - just a plot line to get all the suspects together. I thought I saw Ellie's son there though - did anyone else?

Think the man in the cottage might be significant - interesting theory that it might be Joe but surely he wouldn't have come back to the area? And Mark said he had his address so wouldn't he have commented if it was only a couple of miles away?

I'm still thinking it might be the house owner! I reckon he sent the flowers anyway.

What was the message about that Sarah sent to Trish? ExH seemed to have no clue why she sent it. As a pp said, if you send a message like that it implies the person receiving it will know immediately what it means and who it is from, Trish didn't seem to and if she did, she'd have told police it's my exH's girlfriend, the biatch!

STILL bugging me that the Ed and policewoman connection is not mentioned!!!! I wonder if something nasty might happen to her though after her run in with Rapey...

I thought the football match was the worst thing about the series so far. Totally unbelievable. They seem to be trying a bit too hard to create the small town vibe. The first series did that a bit too at times.

I thought that the football match was the equivalent of when the police officers attend the victims funeral to assess all the suspects behaviour. Only in this case nobody has died so no funeral.

Monkey, I think she was just closing a call - it looked like she works in a call centre of some kind.

Remember Trish was carried quite some distance from when she was knocked out. I wonder if 2 people may have been involved - hence the light being from phone filming it?

The football match seemed weird, why would the police turn up to that? nobody seemed very supportive of Trish and her daughter either - apart from her friend ( is it cath?) they all looked suspicious. it seemed a bit shoe horned in to pad things out a bit.

I think 2 people were involved. One person calls her name, the other clocks her on the back of the head. They both carry her to the waterfall. One rapes while the other films it. One of them could be a woman.

I think it's pretty likely that policewoman has been hiding or distorting the truth about some of the people's movements to protect her dad. It'll take something scary happening to make her see she's fucked up and potentially endangered other women (or men who may be wrongly suspected)

Really hope it's not Joe and that he gets sent down for life for a series of rapes thus putting him behind bars where he belongs for Danny's murder.

I think lemny henry has an unsavoury past and daughter is covering for him.

i quite fancy mark latimer - he seems to be trying really hard and she isnt interested. In real life, if a family has a murder happen to a relative, 9 times out of 10 they split up i think, so that is true ( from what i have read ) it is obviously the pressure, must be so horrible to deal with.

Why does the mechanic have a glove box full on condoms but have unprotected sex with Trish?

Still catching up on thread- i said last night that I thought the teenage son had taken an intimate video of DT's dd which is doing the rounds hence Chloe Latimer turning up 'thought you could do with a friend' I think the taxi driver and son have sent this video but then thought today maybe that's what the victims ex wanted off the laptop maybe he's had those images on there? He's the teacher st the school the boys go to isn't he?
