Will anyone here be watching?!

OP posts:
NapQueen · 15/03/2017 12:49

I loved the scotch egg scene

NotJanine · 15/03/2017 12:53

yep. Olivia Colman and her character are both great

DispatchReady · 15/03/2017 12:57

Why has the female police officer not mentioned that her dad is Lenny Henry?!

The boys were definitely watching someone they knew. Taxi driver's stepson uncomfortable with it though. Maybe the teachers but surely Trish's exH and his new girlfriend don't teach at either OC or DT's child's school though as they would have been Confused!

I think rapist might be the man who hired out the venue, he's quite a well known actor to have an incidental part and mentioned he could hide at the lake and not be seen...

Graphista · 15/03/2017 13:00

Dispatch did you watch the first 2 series? There were plenty of very well known respected actors who had small parts. It's kind of a hallmark of broadchurch. And by this point it's such a well respected show their agents could have called them and before even saying 'small part' just 'Broadchurch' they'll have gone 'Yep! I'll do it!'

Graphista · 15/03/2017 13:01

Plus it's probably at least a little bit fun to see their presence messing with our heads Grin

DispatchReady · 15/03/2017 14:06

Graphista yes I suppose now you mention it there have been a few cameos - the actress from Casualty was in the first episode so I thought she'd feature a lot but hasn't popped up since!

I haven't a clue who the rapist could be then!

But still wondering why Policewoman hasn't mentioned her dad!

The80sweregreat · 15/03/2017 14:11

it is lovely in Dorset - the place where its all filmed is very pretty. If i were an actress and offered a role, i'd be there like a shot ( or death in paradise location..)

But in the Missing, the kidnapper was that actor we'd all seen in something else before Grin

WonderMike · 15/03/2017 14:26

And Miller's son was the nasty psychopath in Silent Witness a while back, that's why he looks so evil.

eddiemairswife · 15/03/2017 14:31

Won't the police already know about Lenny Henry's daughter? There aren't that many black people in the area.

You would think they would know he was her father, but not just because they are the token black people in the area! Shock

SapphireStrange · 15/03/2017 15:06

Why has the female police officer not mentioned that her dad is Lenny Henry?!

Yes, good point.

The80s, Scotch eggs and pork pies are equally yum in my eyes (and oddly similar, I think.)

SapphireStrange · 15/03/2017 15:06

PS who is the venue owner? The actor, I mean.

iklboo · 15/03/2017 15:11

Richard Hope - he's been in Poldark

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2017 15:14

Plus, the daughter/young detective is mixed race. As is the step son of the taxi driver, so he obviously has a black father as we have seen his white mother. So maybe lenny's plot might thicken.....

hackmum · 15/03/2017 15:26

About the taxi driver having been studying medicine and dropping out - does anyone remember the exact same thing in The Killing?

ThaliaLuxurySpa · 15/03/2017 15:36

Re the boys watching the phone porn :

Could it be that Dim Taxi Driver's stepson and Ellie's son have somehow got hold of him featuring on amateur sex tape......and are together about to blackmail him? (Emotionally? Financially?).

Stepson hoping he and mother will be finally free from his cheating/ controlling (maybe violent?) ways?

Stepson's apparent semi-reluctance to watch it might simply be that Dim Taxi Driver has raised him from birth as his own, and he's conflicted: wants him gone, but realises his gaslit mother may crumble without him?

Maybe there's an underground Broadchurch voyeuristic porn-filming thing......and the party was merely a cover, and handy excuse for 'location shoot' ?? Would explain the odd males/ females ratio discrepancy.

ElspethFlashman · 15/03/2017 15:40

I definitely thought Taxi Stepsons distaste was because it was someone local.

I had assumed it was a girl in his class though - oh God not Tennant's daughter?! Bleeeuuurgh.

ElspethFlashman · 15/03/2017 15:41

Good call that it's a woman texting Trish.

TizzyDongue · 15/03/2017 15:43

About the taxi driver having been studying medicine and dropping out - does anyone remember the exact same thing in The Killing?

Was he actually studying it though? Didn't she say he was going to study it?

I took from that Dim Taxi Man was/is deluded or a liar and told her that it was his plan (and still is apparently) to study medicine, so that she'd see him as doing something sacrificial for her. She then would need to be forever grateful and feel guilty.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 15/03/2017 16:02

So now we have 3 black or mixed race people in the town so they all have to be related?Hmm people are forgetting the caterer, he's black too so must be Lenny Henry's third child. Shock

thenewaveragebear1983 · 15/03/2017 16:54

It's not that people are assuming that all black characters are related- just that the step son has been cast for a specific reason, and maybe that is it? When the wife of the taxi driver was describing her child and relationship, then the young mixed race lad saying his step dad was driving him mad (did he say he's being a nob, I can't remember?) - then we realise that the taxi driver is the step dad, things just sort of clicked into place. If a man has raised a child from birth in a relationship with his mother, it is quite poignant that he refers to him as his step-dad (or so dh and i thought anyway). Plus the girl detective and ed Burnett still live in broadchurch, but as far as I can recall, they haven't mentioned her mother yet- perhaps she still lives there too? This could all be sub-plot not main story but it's still an intricate web around LH's character which could yet to be revealed.

IAmNotAUserNumber · 15/03/2017 17:05

t's not that people are assuming that all black characters are related- just that the step son has been cast for a specific reason, and maybe that is it?
But there is a suggestion upthread that he has been cast for the colour of his skin. Why can't the actor have been chosen for his acting ability? Why can't black actors be cast just because they can, not because their colour is an essential part of the plot? And in terms of his role, he is already linked to one of the suspects and to the detective's son so I think he's hat is reason enough for his role.
LH's wife died several years ago btw.
