Do you think it could be a deliberate thing- as in, to remove the idea that rapists are all seedy, dodgy looking, misogynistic etc and actually any normal bloke could be the perpetrator?
THIS! And, further, that with all the things were seeing - teens perving on porn, sexist double standards, dodgy relationships, entitled blokes, crumbling façades of "better than thou" - shows a churning cesspit of rape culture.
OC and DT are, rightly, lamenting on the fact that they're not able to narrow down the list. Because nearly any man could have done it.
But i love the work they're doing busting rape myths. We have Annoying Young DC actually spouting them out of her mouth, and it doesn't look like she's going to Be Told.
I adored that, even very early on, when DT asked OC: "when even was the last stranger rape around here?" and OC couldn't remember - I was thinking "YEAH! They get that most rapes are perpetrated by an acquaintance or closer!" But then, in stark contrast, when Mark Latimer learns that Beth has a new client, he forbids (tries to, anyway) Beth and Chloë from going out alone, because the only conclusion he can draw is that there's a fresh stranger rape out there, not (more likely) an acquaintance/domestic and/or historical. I was rather pissed off that Beth didn't tear him and his ignorance a new one there on the spot. Letting that bullshit stand sort of undoes the good work they're doing on rape myth busting.
There's creepy taxi wife, who's clearly in an abusive marriage. Anybody else scream at her: "LTB!!!" ?
This series has Mumsnet all over it, dunnit.
