Thanks Dance. It worked out well to come on holiday immediately after giving up work.

Not as warm yesterday but still warmer than the UK at 21 degrees. We managed some very pleasant retail therapy and a steep climb to an old fortification. Ache a bit this morning. The market had some fantastic stuff yesterday. I wanted to bring it all home!

Hi, all.
I am slowly picking myself up after avery hard few weeks. Decided that it was time to have a European adventure, first one for years. Am going to Paris for a week, then to Ypres where I am doing a three day tour of the Somme, Passchendaele , the Menin Gate etc. I will be attending a special family service on the 100th anniversary of my great uncle's death in WW1 in a town near the Belgian border, then three days in Amsterdam where it will be tulip time.

have lost my mojo for writing at present, but will get around to finishing my last story over the next couple of weeks.

For those of you hanging out for some good drama, Uttred is back in his Last Kingdom. The first episode of series 2 aired here this week and he is still luscious in his leathers, or even better out of them. We have Netflix, which is cool. SS-GB is underway here. interesting scenario, pretty scary. We have often wondered here in the Antipodes what would have happened had the Japanese won. Even more scary than Germans, I think, from what my father told me about them in the Pacific war.

Evening all. Watching the aftermath of yesterday's terrorist attack. All the flags were at half mast here today.

Quite cool today - only 16 C. Still lovely blue skies though. Home tomorrow. It's gone so quickly.

Hello everyone. Nobody else posting at the moment? What are you all up to? Got home about 6pm last night. Think today will be doing the washing and tidying up. I am doing an afternoon tea as a 90th birthday present tomorrow so need the house not to resemble a tip!

Finally planted the Hellebores you sent me ilove. My spring bed is looking gorgeous right now.

Mother's Day started very early as DS was so excited to give me my card. Sunday lunch with MIL then some gardening.

How's everyone else?

Gardening day for me too pix. We got rid of the 12ft trampoline a while ago and I have been undecided on what to do with the space. Today's project was to re shape the bed and prepare for turf. At the moment it's a giant litter tray for the cats!

Relaxing now with a tingling face from the sunshine and about to open up a bottle of wine. Mother's Day bliss!

Happy Mother's Day. Taught DS to ride his bike this weekend, finally, so am knackered! Very proud though too. Only one grazed knee and elbow (his, not mine!!). Need the kidlets to go to bed so that I can!!!

Ilovelblue · 26/03/2017 22:11

Evening all. Officially, tomorrow is my first day of retirement/redundancy or whatever. It's lovely that there's no "Sunday night" feeling and no alarm clock going off tomorrow morning.

No gardening for me today (glad to see the hellebores have taken well pixie) as I was doing an afternoon tea for my friend's mother who is 90 later in the week. It's so much faff compared with doing a proper meal but she enjoyed it so that's the main thing.

Well done on teaching DS to ride his bike Nickel! There'll be no stopping him now.

MaddieMoo82 · 27/03/2017 09:52

Morning all. ilove enjoy your first proper day of retirement! Hope your relaxing and the weather is still good at your end of the country. Your photos from Spain looked fab!

Enjoyed all the gardening pictures. I'm hoping to cut my grass today whilst ds naps as I was working Saturday and visiting my parents and mrmads parents yesterday so didn't get a chance. It's the last nice day before the weather changes and it's like a wild meadow out there so really need to get it done!

Richtea19 · 27/03/2017 21:17

Well done little nickel, such a wonderful moment when they turn round and realise you're not hanging on to them!

Ilovelblue · 27/03/2017 22:34

Gorgeous weather today and I've made the most of it like you Maddie. I've been sawing branches from one of my trees and also painting some of the garden furniture. I've even got green paint in my hair to prove it!

Have to be up early tomorrow for a blood test - it should have been two weeks ago but the nurse was delayed and I had to get to work. Well, I won't have that problem tomorrow.

Having a meal out with my now ex-work colleagues tomorrow evening to celebrate my departure. There just didn't seem to be enough time before I finished.

Rich are you watching the Cheshire Housewives?

Rhubarb01 · 28/03/2017 13:16

Afternoon everyone. It sounds as if you've all been enjoying the nice weather and getting out in your gardens. I'm not much of a gardener so I feel a bit guilty about the uninteresting state of my borders and lawn. I did manage to get out on Mother's Day for a walk in the woods when I was visiting my parents. Actually, I treated myself to a whole day without the DH and kids and went off to see them and my sister by myself which was very pleasant especially with a pub lunch thrown in for good measure.

For anyone who enjoyed 'Home Fires' and was annoyed at the sudden cancellation of the series on a cliffhanger I have a bit of news that came my way today. The writer has decided to continue the story in novel format and is going to publish three or four books which will continue what he originally planned for the series. It sounds like the first time someone has written fanfiction about their own TV series but I think a lot of people who were very annoyed at the decision of TV bosses will be pleased and I know a few people liked it on here. I think it will initially be available as an e-book and then in paperback.

Oh well, back to the grindstone although you must be having a lovely time now you've finally managed to unshackle yourself ilove. Lovely photos from Spain. My DD loves strawberries and was very envious of those lovely boxes in the market.

pixieg1rl · 28/03/2017 18:01

I was just coming on here to see if you'd seen the news Rhu. You should offer your services as a ghost writer.

Ilovelblue · 28/03/2017 22:59

Evening. Had a lovely leaving meal with my colleagues, a dozen of us in all. I know I made the right decision when they told me of some of the weird goings-on prior to the company merger on Monday.

I was home again for 8.30 after my blood test this morning so decided to spoil myself with an episode of OG whilst I had my breakfast.

I've given one of my garden chairs a second coat of Hammerite today, washed the downspouts and some of the guttering, cleaned out the gutters and also did part of my elderly neighbour's front gutter which had a massive thistle growing out of it. I think I earned my evening out after that!

Ilovelblue · 29/03/2017 10:23

I know this looks like an ordinary pink tulip. Somebody asked me the name of it and I knew I'd bought it in Holland because it had an OG connotation. (I had taken CJ with me as part of his tour). I kept thinking it was calked 'Ditto' but eventually remembered it is 'Jackpot'.

MaddieMoo82 · 29/03/2017 11:39

ilove fab name! Do you look at it and remember the bunker scenes and cjs binoculars or your cj tour?!
It's sounds like your retirement is now in full swing but hoping you are getting to put your feet up as well. I managed to get the grass cut Monday and started weeding my borders. I have some clematis to plant but it's rained ever since Monday so I haven't got back out in the evenings.
Interesting news about home fires rhu I would definitely be interested in reading those. I think if they are marketed right, the books will be popular.
Off work sick after having an allergic reaction to medication I took yesterday evening. It really was a rubbish day through and through and that topped it off. Might watch some OG though as can't remember the last time I watched some.

Richtea19 · 29/03/2017 16:42

Sorry you're feeling poorly mads hope you feel better soon.

ilove i did watch the Cheshire wives! Blimey the new lady is going to bring plenty of fire to the program! Someone told me that two of the cast the ones that fell out, Dawn and the other one with blonde hair married to a footballer are in the middle of a law suit. It was about money that was lent but not paid back!! It's really my very guilty pleasure, I have to watch it in secret!

Ilovelblue · 29/03/2017 23:39

Maddie it's always the bunker scenes! It makes me smile though when I look at the tulips as it's definitely my little guilty secret and none of my friends, gardening or otherwise, would make the connection between my flowers and OG!

Are you feeling better today?

The weather has been rubbish here today and yesterday evening on my way out to my leaving do, there was an absolute deluge to the extent the drains couldn't cope with the amount of rain. It's not been as bad today but it's still been pretty wet and miserable.

I hope you will watch out for clematis wilt? (Not a euphemism, I promise).

Rich there is apparently a scandal about that new housewife as the guy she is supposedly married to in the programme is actually her lover! The real husband has come forward and spilled the beans. It really is utter trash but I can't help but watch it, probably because I recognise a lot of their haunts.

I'm very late to bed tonight but at least I can sleep in if I want!

pixieg1rl · 30/03/2017 10:33

Off on my holidays to see FIL. Will pop in when I can. Eyes on with any news (they must give us some soon!) people.

Ilovelblue · 30/03/2017 10:53

Enjoy! All news gratefully received!

kazzaD66 · 30/03/2017 22:43

Just watching the local South Today news and as part of an item on tanks being sent to Estonia from Hampshire, they interviewed a Captain Charles James!!!! Unfortunately, not our Captain CJ though Grin

Ilovelblue · 30/03/2017 22:57

Was he anywhere near as good looking as our CJ kazza?
