Time for a new thread.

Last night's was the first time in ages I have actually enjoyed watching Corrie. What a difference a good plot twist can make!

Whilst we all recover from the shock of a plot not being immediately obvious from a mile away, just a reminder to everyone on the thread...however obvious a spoiler may seem to you, however many magazines it has been on the cover of, we don't talk about it on here. We are spoiler free.

I've never seen an otter soap either Sad

lizzieoak · 04/06/2017 20:17

They're pretty dull: they steal each others' shellfish and get caught holding paws with the wrong otters. It's all a bit tame for wildlife.

littlemissM92 · 04/06/2017 20:29

I agree michelle played a
Fantastic part when she lost Rory I believed every bit of her pain and it was truly heartbreaking to watch. Agree that her and Robert arnt anything special to watch though! For me she should be with Steve I love them
Together but he's an absolute tool to put it nicely

AnneEyhtMeyer · 04/06/2017 21:20

I would definitely watch the otter soap too. Just think of all the tension over the dams.

I don't get the Kym Marsh love. She plays Kym Marsh. She rolls her eyes, folds her arms and screeches. She is not acting.

Good job we all like different things Wink

stonecircle · 04/06/2017 23:16

Agree Kym Marsh doesn't act, she just plays herself. If anyone in Corrie deserves an award for acting it's the actress playing Bethany. But maybe that storyline is too recent for the soap awards? Michelle is all screaming and big emotions; Bethany manages to convey confusion and vulnerability through an altogether more subtle medium.

BoysofMelody · 05/06/2017 10:48

Bloody hell, I pity her poor partner, if she's like Michelle in real life. I can't believe anyone can be that much of a self righteous, hypocritical banshee in real life.

Somehow she always manages to find herself a job through nepotism. She's Carla's mate so she gets a cushy job in the office at Underworld, shacks up with Steve and is suddenly landlady at the Rovers, hops into bed with Robert and is assistant manager at the bistro, ordering staff around, creating drama with Leanne and generally being hatchet faced.

I'm amazed by the number of people on this thread who know Kym Marsh personally.

BringMeTea · 05/06/2017 14:39

Well. I don't know her personally but someone I know met her recently and spent some time in her company and she definitely ticked the screechy, loud and fairly obnoxious boxes. So I think there is quite a lot of Michelle in Kym as it were.

I don't think Lucy Fallon (Bethany) was nominated this time, but I'm not sure.

I think they deserved the awards tbh, I like all the actors who won from corrie :)

AnneEyhtMeyer · 06/06/2017 00:06

Some of us are old enough to remember her on Pop Idol. She was exactly the same then, as well as pretending her children didn't exist so she could get in the band.

I reckon they are storing the Bethany story nominations for a big award stash for next year. It must be hard on the other actors/actresses when some dominant storylines overshadow the everyday acting. I don't think Sarah aged a day since she left for Milan about 14 years ago Grin

BoysofMelody · 06/06/2017 17:36

I think I read somewhere that the Bethany story is going to run until the autumn, so it may well be eligible for awards next year.

CorporalNobbyNobbs · 06/06/2017 19:07

Didn't Sarah get groomed years ago? Met someone online and went off with him and he kidnapped her or something?

honeyroar · 06/06/2017 19:20

Yes, you're right, I think she did.

Clawdy · 06/06/2017 20:37

Seem to remember she went to meet a boy she fell for online at his house, and discovered an older man there saying he was the boy's dad. Can't remember how it ended but she was rescued in time.

Smith1 · 06/06/2017 22:06

I'm catching up. Just watched Fridays episode.I am very naive I know. These grooming circles - is it like that in real life? That other girl seen leaving the bedroom- she's obviously been made to do that. For money or because she can't get away? Nathan said another girl had been sent away. Dues that mean that they all live somewhere so they can't get away?
I'm confused about Mel and if she wants to be involved. Nathan told her she was the special one, but where does she live?
Sorry i know I'm reading to much into this.
I think it's been well played and can't imagine if it is true to real life how these young girls must feel.

sleepraptor · 07/06/2017 00:35

NAmechangecentralstation - re the Neighbours near drowing - I totally remember that. I think there was a group camping involving Karl Kennedy, his daughter Libby and her boyfriend maybe (can't remember name) plus maybe others. KK and Libby's boyfriend were in the drowning scene I think. A car had rolled into the water and they were trying to push it out and the bf got trapped. KK had to pull some pipe thing out of the car and got it to the bf just as he went under the water. Can't remember how he got rescued! And I may have mis-remember the characters involved!

Run4Fun · 07/06/2017 00:54

Wrong soap sleepraptor Grin
You'll have me back watching Neighbours to catch up.

lizzieoak · 07/06/2017 04:20

We're a few weeks behind in Canada. From what I've read of prostitution many of the girls and women are addicted to drugs - either because they're self-medicating mental health problems or because they're self-medicating to block out the horror their life is (not talking independently employed high-earnings call girls etc who may or may not find the work not emotionally taxing).

Has this come into it yet? Generally when I see British dramas about sex rings the women & girls are gorgeous and no one is working for their next fix. I doubt it's vastly different in the UK, but I suppose they won't get into that on Corrie.

littlemissM92 · 07/06/2017 07:08

Lizzie yes he keeps spiking her triple vodkas !

lizzieoak · 07/06/2017 14:11

I've seen her drunk just once so far, so interesting to know he's drugging her further along. Probably the story wlll focus on Bethany so we won't see any girls with long-term addictions.

Run4Fun · 07/06/2017 18:14

Sarah was groomed as a teenager. She told Bethany about it when she realised how old Nathan was. Bethany told Nathan this is the reason Sarah is so protective of her. That Neil is slippery, even Nathan doesn't seem to know what he is up to.

stripeyboys · 07/06/2017 18:41

I think that the way Bethany's story has progressed since she came back from Milan has been well done. She struggled to settle into school in the UK, and experienced bullying. This meant that her self esteem suffered which contributed towards her ED. It also meant that she may not have any very close friends to confide or let slip information to.

If you add all of that to all the difficulties she has been through with her family including her Mum's MH difficulties, the deaths of her step Grandad and Auntie, getting a new baby brother etc, she is particularly vulnerable to Nathan and his behaviour.
