Time for a new thread.

Last night's was the first time in ages I have actually enjoyed watching Corrie. What a difference a good plot twist can make!

Whilst we all recover from the shock of a plot not being immediately obvious from a mile away, just a reminder to everyone on the thread...however obvious a spoiler may seem to you, however many magazines it has been on the cover of, we don't talk about it on here. We are spoiler free.

OP posts:

Oh I know Justdance but I seem to remember Sally bleating on about how clever she was and that's why she sent her there.

BuntyFigglesworthSpiffington · 01/05/2017 21:37

Yes her character used to be bright. I remember she was a goth into lots of causes.

JustDanceAddict · 01/05/2017 21:52

In that case it's odd, but that's soaps for you!

babyinarms · 01/05/2017 22:24

GrinGrin lol Bunty !

eddiemairswife · 01/05/2017 22:27

I thought the child (Summer) was Billy's goddaughter. In that case he should take care of her if her parent(s) have died. He is an ordained priest, he should understand the role of a godparent.

EachandEveryone · 01/05/2017 22:52

Hes not being very compassionate is he?

DarkDarkNight · 01/05/2017 23:07

I'm really curious to know the back story with Nathan and Mel. She is scared of him and he threatened her a while back and said something like 'unless you want to go in her place'. How recent were the pictures Bethany found on the laptop? If Nathan was once pimping her out why did he stop?

You can see Mel is almost willing Bethany to save herself. It feels like she is hoping her family will intervene.

Optimist1 · 01/05/2017 23:11

My hopes are pinned on Mary for thesaving of Bethany.

redshoeblueshoe · 01/05/2017 23:31

Optimist - I'm just watching on catch-up and I just said exactly the same to DH

Dark - I think he prefers to pimp out younger girls

Found Bethany scene so triggering tonight that I had to turn it off after Nathan turned the music up. I had a boyfriend when I was 14 who would do that right before a beating started (he was 19). I couldn't put it back on so still don't know what happened to bethany. DP had to make me a hot choc and give me a long cuddle :(

Strongly, strongly disagree with those saying it's been badly done. They've built up to this quite carefully for a long while. Bethany is deeply insecure in need of someone to prioritise her and her needs (due to moving to Italy and then from Italy, mum dating psycho, being used by psycho to harm family, being bullied, thinking she's overweight, inappropriate crush on older man, mum then dating said older man, amongst other things!). When Nathan found her in the alley after she overdosed he obviously figured out she's vulnerable very quickly and has played on this very cleverly. It's been so subtly done. The very fact that Sarah's been a bit overbearing has played right into his hands, as did the situation with Gary.

People think it's happened too quickly to be real, it actually does happen like this. Teens are so strongly led by hormones. Falling in love with someone who acknowledges and validates you does happen very quickly. It also super easy to overpower someone vulnerable like bethany and to get them under control.

stonecircle · 02/05/2017 00:02

Dark night - I think the implication is that Mel used to be in Bethany's place but is 'too old' now. I'm sure Nathan said something to her about her being too old at one point.

Smith1 · 02/05/2017 07:24

sothey I agree re the storyline. For once I'm impressed with how Corrie have handled it.
I hope you managed to escape from your situation before it got too bad Flowers

AnnoyedofTunbridgeWells · 02/05/2017 07:38

SoThey very sorry to hear you've been through that.

Bethany went to bed after that and Nathan slept on the couch and called her a child. it's a horrible storyline.

Agree about Billy. My mate asked me to be a 'secular' version of godparent to his daughter and I was delighted but I did say I wouldn't be taking her if he died!!

Housewife2010 · 02/05/2017 10:44

Godparents aren't expected to bring up the child in the event of a parent's death. Their role is to support the child but they have no legal responsibilities. I think Bethany and Nathan are excellent in their roles.

deloresclaiborne · 02/05/2017 13:33

people who dont think the nathan/ bethany s story line rings true should remember its aired before the watershed time, so the writers have used nathan prying on bethanys vunrability (sp) in real life he would of been alot more threatening and probably slapped her a few times as wellspeaks from experience
she is terrified of him and what he might do

woodhill · 02/05/2017 18:13

Sounds silly but would Sarah not do more so she doesn't lose her Child Benefit for Bethany not being in education. Wouldn't she be struggling for cash especially after Phelan taking her 15K and the flat scandal.

Where are Gail and Audrey?

Eastie77 · 02/05/2017 19:55

Well speaking of godparents, Roy is Bethany's godfather so he should ideally try to help at what is clearly a troubling time for her (estranged from her mum etc) although agree it will probably be Mary who works out what is going on

AnnoyedofTunbridgeWells · 02/05/2017 20:06

Roy is Bethany's godfather??! How'd that happen?

Sarah would be losing £52 a month child benefit for Bethany, but Bethany's food, clothes, makeup and hair dye probably cost more.

Eastie77 · 02/05/2017 21:48

Roy and Hayley (RIP) are definitely Bethany's godparents. I watched an old episode recently dating back to when Bethany was a few weeks old. Roy and Haley were babysitting and Sarah told Gail they were happy to do it because they were Bethany's godparents. No idea how that came about though!

woodhill · 02/05/2017 22:05

I used to get about £88 a month, has it changed?

Clawdy · 02/05/2017 22:09

I thought Roy mistakenly believed Amy was his child for a few weeks after Tracy announced the pregnancy. She played a rather cruel joke, where he believed he had slept with her.Don't think there was ever a surrogacy issue?
