Time for a new thread.

Last night's was the first time in ages I have actually enjoyed watching Corrie. What a difference a good plot twist can make!

Whilst we all recover from the shock of a plot not being immediately obvious from a mile away, just a reminder to everyone on the thread...however obvious a spoiler may seem to you, however many magazines it has been on the cover of, we don't talk about it on here. We are spoiler free.

Of course, baby. Make yourself at home.

I am alone in finding the whole Bethany plot totally unrealistic. He seems to have separated her from her family without even trying and the whole thing tonight with her deciding her mum was moving on without her was farcical.

Hey and welcome baby all welcome. Thought they did it well tonight, though have to see what Nathan reaction will be if it's he's been so nice to me since the party, good job Bethany or if she will say and he go aggressive with her.

Not sure like sound of this summer sounds like an oh dear we need a teenager on the street so let's bring her in, surely Todd and vicar have to move out. Silly that they all live there still when they both work full time and with lodger girl on sofa!!

Not sure what's happening Tracey either, surely police will put 2 and 2 together when they don't come
Back.

My favourite part tonight was David teasing with the biscuit!

deadringer · 29/04/2017 00:32

I wonder will Todd and Billy move into the flat that suddenly appeared on the street now that they are inheriting a 12 year old. Not sure where the Bethany story can go, surely she won't stay with Nathan after this.

lizzieoak · 29/04/2017 03:06

I remain exasperated that Phelan appears to be getting away with Andy's murder (& what came of Luke going to Bristol?), and Michael's near-murder.

ProfYaffle · 29/04/2017 06:26

Ann - I thought it was a bit unrealistic too. The actual scene in the bedroom was disturbing but how she got there from refusing to kiss him as she was Nathan's girlfriend was a bit of a stretch.

skippy67 · 29/04/2017 07:05

The Bethany storyline is ridiculous!

Goingtobeawesome · 29/04/2017 07:52

He's an adult, she's a child and it was clear that he wasn't giving her any choice. He's a rapist. It isn't going to be understandable to a lot of people. That's not patronising. I just can't find the words at the moment brain issues.

Those finding it unrealistic and ridiculous maybe are lucky.

She's only 16 though and very insecure and vulnerable . I can see it happening. The bedroom scene was very creepy - if I were her I would've bolted, but then Nathan would've caught her, etc. Wish the other woman would've answered Bethanys phone.

sweetkitty · 29/04/2017 08:39

Found it really disturbing last night poor Bethany I wish the other girl would do something but sounds like she's terrified of Nathan

littlemissM92 · 29/04/2017 08:56

It was awful to watch but I agree that realistic she acts so grown up but really she is just a young girl who wants to be seen as a woman.

Also anyone who watches emmerdale find it strange that both programs have done same thing in same week ?!

babyinarms · 29/04/2017 09:27

Thanks for the welcome. I don't like Nathan either but I can see how something like this can happen I'm real life. Beth any has been taunted by bullies and has a pretty dysfunctional family . Nathan made her feel grown up and acted as if he respected her ideas etc. He's groomed her. Maybe cos I've kids who'll one day be teenagers, I'm finding it all very scary.
Agree with most who find Toyah so annoying. She a moan a minute and herself and Peter don't seem realistic.
As for Billy and Todd, don't know how that'll work out. A teenage girl, she'll probably rebel and make their lives a misery .
Who do ye think really pushed Ken ? Was it Amy? I still think it was Daniel. I find him very creepy.
Hate Phelan too. How come no one has come looking for Andy? Surely someone wld have missed him by now!
Sorry for long post, just making up for lost time Grin

ProfYaffle · 29/04/2017 09:42

I'm not saying that I don't believe that these kind of things happen or that women aren't coerced without actual physical violence it's just that I don't feel this storyline is particularly well written. I don't find myself believing in the characters.

The actress did really well last night though

babyinarms · 29/04/2017 09:54

The part I find difficult to believe is the other girl ( can't remember her name) standing back and watching and being part of the grooming.
I know it's implied that Nathan has doe the same to her and she afraid of him, but I thought that she'd help Bethany or call Bethanys Mum or do something to help her.
I agre Bethany did great last night, she's a good little actress to be fair.

stonecircle · 29/04/2017 10:54

The other girl is obviously terrified of Nathan. As was/is Shona. I think if someone has that sort of hold on you they'd be terrified of helping in case they were found out and physically hurt/lost their job etc.

I find the Bethany story quite credible as it's built up quite slowly and the grooming has been fairly subtle. I also remember what it's like to be a teenager and go along with things because you don't know how to say 'no'.

eddiemairswife · 29/04/2017 11:08

I find the set up with Billy totally unrealistic. He's living at Eileen's, never has any troubled parishioners calling, appears not to spend time writing sermons or doing church work. I seem to remember that he wouldn't be allowed to live at the vicarage with Todd, but that will have to change if he takes on this girl.

BlondeBecky1983 · 29/04/2017 11:30

I think this storyline is actually very realistic, the reality is it really doesn't take very much for vulnerable children to end up in this position.

babyinarms · 29/04/2017 11:56

It's scary alright.
As for Billy, not sure, surely they can't fit anymore in Eileen house .

Akire · 29/04/2017 12:30

I can't see Todd lasting while being a step parent can you? He already gets jealous very quickly. He have do say job and then be at home not out in pub every night that's not going go down well.

Think the bedroom was done well, you might feel silly making a fuss if just wanted to talk somewhere quieter but she could have made attempt move or get out. I think Nathan will go to bed "drunk" then have text in morning saying how pleased his friend was and giving him x months to repay now. And she not be able to say anything as she helped it get better.

Not sure how move on to other people, when Eastenders did with Whitney he had loads debt and then she was physically locked in house, though guessing he has one too as hinting at other place.

Thought you had to go to school till 18 now woulnt theybhave duty to check up and make you donsome sort of training. It's not like she run away they know where she is!

redshoeblueshoe · 29/04/2017 13:12

When you adopt surely you can't just pass the child on to whoever you want. I can't stand Billy.
Littlemiss - I agree its ridiculous that coronation street and emmerdale have sooo many similar storylines it can't be anything to do with Sally's husband being a script writer on emmerdale

woodhill · 29/04/2017 13:16

Where is Gail in all this. She doesn't seem to be at home. Why has Sarah not done any digging about Nathan. I'm sure he's got form.

If Billy was in the church wouldn't he have been discrete about his relationships from 00s. He doesn't seem to do any church duties.

babyinarms · 29/04/2017 13:25

Yes I have a feeling Nathan is going to move Beth any on to some other place and she'll be imprisoned there. Hope it doesn't go that far, not sure I'd be able !
Billy has a great life. No work load at all to be seen.
Never knew that Sally husband wrote for Emmerdale. Is that her RL hubby or onscreen fella?

AltheaThoon · 29/04/2017 14:07

Billy never works? Only yesterday he mentioned attending an assembly at Bessie At Primary on patience Grin

I can see the situation with Bethany happening very easily. It's very very difficult for a child to speak out to grown men. She thinks she loves Nathan and wants his approval and to make him happy. Bastard. I don't know how far they're going to take the story.

AltheaThoon · 29/04/2017 14:12

And Nathan will secure her to him a bit more by telling her how ashamed her mother would be and other such crap. He encouraged her to get a contraceptive implant so her attackers probably aren't using protection either. Sad
