It was important in highlighting yet again that a family can look wonderful from the outside and yet be toxic on the inside, that people can be attractive and charming and articulate but completely messed up. Her counsel did the best they could i thought but they were stuck really - they needed her to accept Kyle's guilt but, as others have said, she couldn't because it would mean accepting her own guilt.

OopsDearyMe · 07/02/2017 19:24

Just watched it too, I was shouting at the screen, I don't think she knew anything, I think she was in a place many people have been where no matter what your told about your partner, its easier to be in denial. Her Mum seemed in denial, sayingbshe didn't bthink he didn't and talking about cot death. I think there was more too it. For the contact arrangements to keep changing and get less and less, she must not have been following the SS in the same way she ignored her legal team. She came across a bit dim tbh.
I just wanted someone to say to her, if it wasn't her partner, who was it? If it was no one how did the injuries happen? You don't get her kind of injuries from illness.

cherryrednose · 07/02/2017 19:28

I would like to ask Rob if he has an opinion on the involvement of police and social services in the case - it was mentioned that Kyle only received a caution for punching Kenzey while she was heavily pregnant and that social services judged Kyle not to be a significant risk to the children only a short time before he attacked the baby.

friendlyflicka · 07/02/2017 19:33

Oops, I think social services make contact less and less over time when it is fairly clear child will not be returned any day soon, they try to acclimatise the child to the new environment.

RockyBird · 07/02/2017 19:48

Rob I'd be interested to know the crew members' thoughts on Kenzey's guilt or otherwise while the programme was being made? They must have formed opinions being in such close contact.

sassymuffin · 07/02/2017 20:07

Totally agree cherry I googled to see if I could find any news reports on the case as I was curious to see if the press had covered the trial in any way. I couldn't find any news reports but I did come across an American website that helps families that have been wrongly accused of child abuse because of medical misdiagnosis. Kenzey had posted on it asking for help on November 6th 2015. This was a year after she and Kyle had been arrested but two months before she was charged with the initial two offences.

She reiterates on this post that both her and Kyle are adamant they are innocent of any wrongdoing.

Despite Kyle's previous violent behaviour, warnings of danger to her daughter and retracted confession it appears she has always completely believed in his innocence. So much so that she lied to her own defence team about his behaviour towards her.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/02/2017 20:15

Those texts were appalling. I think he probably had a whole heap of stuff on her for her to keep lying for him.

OopsDearyMe · 07/02/2017 20:15

I don't take it as lying, as I think its not a lie if she believes its true. Its incorrect, but she thinks she is passing on the truth. The only lie I noticed was when she said to the chap in grey, that Kyle had never physically abused her.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/02/2017 20:17

I think she knows exactly what happened.

God,it was grim.

Innocent92 · 07/02/2017 20:35

Hello everyone,
I have been reading all of your comments all day and I have joined up to reply. What I would like to say to you all this evening is that I went through the same thing as Kenzey.
My child stopped breathing and we phoned 999. It turned out had a bleed on the brain, bleeds behind his eyes and fractures too. He and my other child were taken away by social services and we were arrested. I had not done anything to my child and nor had my boyfriend but it took us 1 year and a court case to prove this and get them back to us. They have been home for over a year now and I am so so thankful that they are both healthy and so happy. This had obviously dragged up a lot of emotion for me and I am not sure why I am posting this really. I just wanted to let you know there is another side to all of this. My children were so wanted and are so so loved. Sometimes bad things do happen to good people. Sorry all I just had to get that off my chest X

Innocent92 · 07/02/2017 20:37

P.s. My son has Ehlers Danlos syndrome and that was the cause of all of the problem he had and his ongoing problems.

Underthemoonlight · 07/02/2017 20:38

16 professionals confirmed the child in question was shaken, she is brain dead and has life changing injuries as a result. I don't think it's a case of another side of the story he admitted it.

sassymuffin · 07/02/2017 20:42

Yes Oops that was the lie I was referring to; when she lied to her solicitor.

KERALA1 · 07/02/2017 20:43

He admitted it, it was a violent relationship, he was a violent man and presumably one of the 16 medical professionals would have identified Ehlers Danlos syndrome?

Am sure there are cases of innocent parents accused and utmost sympathy for them but I don't think this is one of those cases. The legal team didn't even try and run that argument.

Innocent92 · 07/02/2017 20:52

Oh no sorry, I am not trying to defend this woman at all. I agree with the verdict. I have just found myself frustrated by some comments I have seen today and wanted to share my experience of the same court proceedings.

sassymuffin · 07/02/2017 20:58

I'm sorry to hear that innocent that sounds a nightmare.

I really think this is not similar to your experience because in conjunction with the unexplained injuries this was a case were the father had previously physically and emotionally abused his partner. He had also allegedly called his seven week old daughter a cunt, stated in a text message that his daughter was not safe around him and also made a confession on social media then retracted it.

sassymuffin · 07/02/2017 21:01

Sorry just missed your latest post ignore my last message.

HyacinthsBucket · 07/02/2017 21:04

I found it incredibly upsetting and difficult to watch. They were little more than a pair of kids playing house, and with the mental ages of 12 year olds. I'm sorry but to not know that your baby is in serious trouble with blood coming from its eyes mouth and nose, and to use google then phone 111.....oh my god. The fact they went on to have another child in that time beggars belief, let alone their ignorance that they'd get to keep it. What I find the most upsetting outcome of all is knowing that she'll be out of prison in a few years, met another deadbeat and be trotting kids out because she has no concept of what she's actually done. And all at the expense of the taxpayer. I can't even bear to think of that poor wee baby. What a horrifically depressing programme.

And yet she chose to have a second child with him........

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 07/02/2017 21:27

Hyacinth I know Sad I saw her as a 12 year old too ,I don't understand pp saying she was articulate,I didn't think so at all.

KERALA1 · 07/02/2017 21:30

Garden maybe you have watched too many miscarriage of justice type programmes? Usually the most obvious answer is the right answer. The jury found them guilty beyond reasonable doubt. Who else battered the baby? I am confident justice has been done.

buzzmoon · 07/02/2017 21:31

Question for Rob
Will you be making any more like this? I really enjoyed it.

Was Kenzey's mental health looked into at any point during the trial?

sassymuffin · 07/02/2017 21:38

Dame The filmmaker Rob McCabe has said in an interview that he found Kenzey to be "thoughtful and eloquent" when he spent time with her when making the documentary. I thought her vocabulary in some parts supported this but her behaviour at other times was immature.

I'm not sure if Kenzey was already pregnant when they were both arrested, I cant remember what the voice over said when explaining she had a second child.
