I love Sr Ursula. She's a cowbag but I still love her. She won't last but she's great while she's here. And Phyllis has been a firm favourite with my crazy co-obsessives friends since she came into it.

I'm glossing over the wicked comments about the Turners. I adore them and you're all wrong! Wink

Soubriquet · 30/01/2017 15:30

I love Sr Ursula

Shock get out! Doors that way >>

Just kidding we love really Grin

Love Nurse Crane too, I have actually met nurses like her. I trained in the mid 80s so some of the older nurses came from that era. My God some of them were tarters....I was scared stiff of them.....and so were many patients.

Loved the episode where Phyllis got changed and was "we're all girls together" while displaying ancient old undies. Grin.

Incidentally that caesarean prop/prosthetic was amazing last night. Very realistic and that mid line incision too.

S1lentAllTheseYears · 30/01/2017 16:32

Thanks Paleontologist Grin

I didn't like Delia at first but she's really grown on me.

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 30/01/2017 16:50

When Patsy had her rant at Sr Ursula there was a look that crossed her face though. Guilt maybe? She definitely felt somethung that Wanstead her apparent cold contempt.

Akire · 30/01/2017 17:06

I don't get why Ursula is so mean. Ok about biscuits possible if would have to replace them but things like beetroot jam or onions would have been pickled from the garden to save food so not like was costing them hardly anything.

Even if Pasty had wasted an hour, it's not like they had pay to make up the costs. Either someone else did it or didn't get done. What was she going to do with few shillings or whatever. What can they buy out of that? Good news we can buy a new pair of rubber gloves, yippee.

NormaSmuff · 30/01/2017 17:10

Yes I noticed the midline incision, accurate for its time. I saw another c section re-enactment recently and was shouting at the TV for doing a transverse, ie modern day, c section

Saucery · 30/01/2017 17:41

Docking the wages was a power trip, rather than a genuine attempt to recoup lost earnings. She's a bit of an other-worldly bean counter is Sr Ursula and is going to be taught a Lesson about the vagaries of human nature and how you can't move people about like chess pieces.

BertieBotts · 30/01/2017 18:19

Barbara wouldn't cry if she was pregnant though, they'd just bring the wedding forwards. It would be a bit of an "oops" moment but it's not like she's a teenager or been shagging someone else's husband, she is engaged. It sounds like Barbara got disciplined for something or other (probably being nice) and cries because Trixie asks what's all the fuss about the new nun, something like that.

I think Patsy will be back for sure but perhaps they need her out of the way for a bit. I wonder if the actress is pregnant? Someone mentioned they thought she'd put on weight, and they couldn't exactly have her pregnant on screen when she's supposed to be in a lesbian relationship!

Soubriquet · 30/01/2017 18:19

I think Barbara gets a big telling off from Ursula and that's why she's crying

Those few shillings would buy quite a reasonable amount of food or whatever. Pre decimal currency was 240 old pennies = £. 12 pennies = 1 shilling.

Breward · 30/01/2017 18:45

I adore Judy Parfitt as Sr Monica Joan... especially when she ate the sweet last night!

Such a wonderful character play beautifully every week- batty yet so wise. I always look forward to her literary quotes.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 30/01/2017 19:00

Sr Monica Joan is the best part of the show at the moment.

hugoagogo · 30/01/2017 19:03

I find it hard to believe that the couple with dwarfism wouldn't have encountered a more hostility and comment!?

Akire · 30/01/2017 19:45

Yes power trip makes more sense thanks. Though to be fair if the NHS was run like NHouse nothing would ever get done! She was right about taking the burn Mrs to visit as most housewives would have been home not in heard of for someone toind their kids so they could have taken her instead.

BubbleWrapQueen · 30/01/2017 20:29

I wonder if they're planning on giving sherlagh some form of cancer? Ovarian, stomach, something similar?

BubbleWrapQueen · 30/01/2017 20:29

As an aside, the outside dock scenes are always filmed near me. Love spotting stuff.

TizzyDongue · 30/01/2017 20:30

Thanks NormaSmuff - I manage to find it online so I'm up to speed now - but your summary was great (I love nurse Crane too).

LRDtheFeministDragon, it was supposed to be a summary of last week!!! I missed it (didn't record and I've no iPlayer). I avert my eyes at your summary of this week as I'm just sitting down it watch now Smile

DesolateWaist · 30/01/2017 21:49

I wonder if they're planning on giving sherlagh some form of cancer? Ovarian, stomach, something similar?

I wondered that too. Just before the explosion she wretched into her handkerchief. When she put it in the man so she could give him mouth to mouth it had blood on it.

Notjustuser1458393875 · 30/01/2017 21:53

Told you. Top Gear.

So maybe she is pregnant but the TB is also back?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 30/01/2017 22:05

The main difference I've noticed in Patsy's appearance is that her fringe has become enormous!

BubbleWrapQueen · 30/01/2017 22:08

Desolate I noticed the blood too :-(

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 30/01/2017 22:09

I thought the blood on the hanky was from the injured man? I agree that I don't see it ending well for the Turner family sadly.

Ursula is a bit like my managers now Grin we are told off for getting 'too involved' with our patients (i'm a community nurse) looks like not much has changed! We would be severely disciplined if we went to visit a patient in hospital whilst on duty, the service is now almost entirely task based with very little room for going that extra mile for patients Sad

Patsy is my girl crush as well Blush

LRDtheFeministDragon · 30/01/2017 22:18

tizzy - argh! I'm sorry. I am such an idiot.

DesolateWaist · 30/01/2017 22:55

I thought the blood on the hanky was from the injured man?

Oh it might we have been. But it just looked wrong to me. I might be reading too much into it.
