I really enjoyed the book so looking forward to this. It's in 4 parts with Emily Watson playing the main character and Ben Chaplin as her lover. BBC1 9pm

Good article about it here.

What?!

Dulra · 06/02/2017 21:59

Well there's the twist you end up wanting to give poor mark costley a cuddle

SloanyAnne · 06/02/2017 21:59

What a rubbish end.

Str4ngedaysindeed · 06/02/2017 21:59

Nice ending with her and that ambiguous face though!

Wondermoomin · 06/02/2017 22:00

Yes in the book she served something like 3 months of a 6 month sentence for perjury. And yes she was revealed to be guilty as she asked for him to be killed Shock

minisausage · 06/02/2017 22:00

Sorry I'm being thick what would she have been done for purgery?
And does he take things literally due to personality disorder ?

PollyPerky · 06/02/2017 22:01

I didn't catch what she said at the end- she was mumbling.
Did she say he didn't know the difference between fact and fiction?

colouringinagain · 06/02/2017 22:02

I'm being thick. So she did manipulate him into killing Selby???

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/02/2017 22:02

Sorry I'm being thick what would she have been done for purgery?

She lied in court about shagging Costley...

Burntbum · 06/02/2017 22:02

She said "You really don't know the difference, do you?"

colouringinagain · 06/02/2017 22:03

Preferred it without that last twist...

garlicandsapphire · 06/02/2017 22:03

What was her last two lines?

Blah, blah, blah

Oh my god you dont understand the difference...

Did she say it or not?

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 06/02/2017 22:03

I don't think she manipulated him - she did tell him to.kill him though...

Trills · 06/02/2017 22:03

This is a bit princes in the tower, isn't it?

I'm sure there's a Philippa Gregory book where a bunch of people angst over whether they accidentally gave the impression that they wanted them dead.

Foldedtshirt · 06/02/2017 22:04

I think so colouring she'd said she wanted him killed and then when Mark said he hadn't told, she gaslit him!

Frouby · 06/02/2017 22:04

Wow loved that twist.

I think she knew exactly what he would do. And she goes from being a victim to an aggressive murderer quite cleverly getting him to do her dirty work.

Makes you look at her in a completely different light.

Trills · 06/02/2017 22:04

She did say it.

It's left ambiguous as to whether:
a - she didn't mean it, but he took it too literally because he is not normal
b - she totally meant it, but is going to pretend that option a is true

Wondermoomin · 06/02/2017 22:05

The "you don't know the difference" bit - I think suggests that he took it literally when she didn't mean it literally. The book just leaves it as she said "I want you to kill him, I want you to smash his fucking face in".

gaslit? explain in normal language please :)

Dulra · 06/02/2017 22:05

She said something like you really don't know the difference do you... basically inferring that the bedtime talk of her wanting him to kill George was idle talk all of us do but he took it literally which is not how it was intended.

Burntbum · 06/02/2017 22:06

I'm going with option A!

Wondermoomin · 06/02/2017 22:06

Ah didn't think of gas lighting yes maybe...

PollyPerky · 06/02/2017 22:06

They are going to have to put real cctv in Apple Tree Yard now mind you...

It'll be like platform 9 3/4 or whatever a KIngs Cross.
Beige mac provided for photos.

Delatron · 06/02/2017 22:07

Oh I assumed she was joking and he took it literally.

Didn't consider the option that she planted the seed on purpose. Wasn't she too horrified by the whole thing to have planned it all along?
