He was seeing his mother drowning him whilst erm, sleeping with Zilpha. Possibly because Zilpha reminds her of his mother? Makes it even creepier? So he was seeing his mother trying to drown him so he was trying to strangle her, but was actually strangling Zilpha.

I've been watching with a friend and she thinks it is all a bit magical/fantasy. I've been understanding it as mental illness (or madness as it would have been to them)? Is JD actually controlling Z in her sleep, or is she actually just having sex dreams about him? I thought when he sees these visions of his mother and when he goes in the water, it is in his head?

Personally I Assumed his visions were just his PTSD and zilphas dreams were just that, dreams, not magic. But given the time and the religious influences they are attributing it to magic/the devil.

I anyone else overwhelmed by the constant presence of the water? It feels like the entire programme is filmed on a boat. I know that's the whole point, but I'm finding it really unsettling. I don't like water so maybe it's just me but there is a lot of it. Right? There is isn't there?

How does everyone know suddenly that he was peeping with his sister?

I thought it was obvious from episode one after the father's funeral when JD says something about if Zilpha needs money and that he still loves her. It didn't ring remotely like a sibling talking to another sibling.

I feel like none of them can ever be totally dry. It really makes me squirm!

I'll just leave this here for you - TH in this looks like my ex. I normally love TH but my ex was a prick so I find it quite unsettling! Still love Taboo though, even if I don't really understand fully what's going on!

Yes. Which also makes me think James and his mother in the water is a version of Thetis and Achilles but James' mother seems to have gone for full immersion hopefully avoiding any heel related deficiencies.
