So excited! I couldn't wait for tomorrow to start a thread Grin

Goodness that was hard going, especially with the well scenes Sad. It was very dark but I think I loved it!

HelenDenver · 15/01/2017 22:49

I would've thought that an army doctor could recognise children's bones and not call them "some kind of bones" but...

I did enjoy it though.

ArgyMargy · 15/01/2017 22:50

Grumpyoldbag is spot on.

eternalopt · 15/01/2017 22:50

All a bit much for me I'm afraid. Will try and watch it again some time but it feels a bit try hard tome at mo

mrsmuddlepies · 15/01/2017 22:51

Genius drama. We loved it in my house. I am so excited by all of the gang that I am finding it hard to calm down before bed.
Please, please let there be another series.

coldcanary · 15/01/2017 22:54

Haven't watched it yet (spoilers don't bother me at all - it looks like they might actually help understand what's going on a bit more!), Moffat and Gatiss have given Molly something to do tonight that doesn't involve babysitting then? They've totally wasted Louise Brierley this season, Molly had a lot of potential and ended up just drooling over Sherlock all the time.

Itsmytemporaryname · 15/01/2017 22:54

Ffs. Era defining genius concocts evil plan, overpowers the best minds in the country but is found huddled in a depressing attic, ultimately overcome with a nice cuddle.
It's such sexist bullshit.

HelenDenver · 15/01/2017 22:55

Don't hold out too much hope, cold!

coldcanary · 15/01/2017 22:56

Bugger.

LollipopViolet · 15/01/2017 23:07

Loved it, however I have a fear of flying. That episode played right into my worst nightmares!

onceuponanotherlifetime · 15/01/2017 23:12

Oh dear, that was excruciatingly dire. This whole series has just been so ridiculously up it's own arse, but tonight's episode really took the biscuit. Even the "banter" between Sherlock and Watson, that used to be amusing just sounded so painfully and irritatingly contrived this time around. I really could barely watch this episode, which is sad considering how much I loved the earlier series.

I think Steven Moffat (writer) has self-destructed and taken the show with him under the pressure to out-clever himself. A long time ago in another life I knew the Vertue's (producers and owners of the production company that make Sherlock) extremely well. Sadly I think their personal connection to Steven (being his wife and m-i-l respectively) has completely clouded their judgment on the writing and storylines this series. Someone needed to take a stand during pre-production and tell him it was utter nonsense Grin

YorkiesGlasses · 15/01/2017 23:13

Benedict said a few years ago that he loved the idea of revisiting Sherlock and John every 5 years to watch them grow old together.

Maybe I'm being harsh but I think that's a bit selfish. If you can't commit to a project because you're busy being a Hollywood star, step out and let someone else have a turn. The biggest criticism of this show has been the fact that we only got three episodes every few years because Benedict, Martin, Gatiss and Moffat were too busy to do any more. I think the BBC should rest the franchise for 5 years but then bring it back with a new cast and new less 'high-profile' show runners.

WobblyLondoner · 15/01/2017 23:16

Oh my god what a load of nonsense. I'm so cross that I wasted an hour and a half of my life watching that. I just couldn't quite commit to abandoning it without knowing the end.
Dire.

mistyegg · 15/01/2017 23:27

Loved seeing Moriarty again and the tension in the first part was great. But the last 10-15 minutes were such a disappointment for a series finale - I was waiting for a twist the whole time and Sherlock's hug solving everything just doesn't seem plausible but instead is a huge, chauvinist letdown given the considerable build up to it.

It became a victim of its huge success. Compare the first episode to the last episode - they're two different programmes.

CaveMum · 15/01/2017 23:49

I didn't see any chauvinism, I saw a person with muliple personalities one of which was child-like and confused and another totally psychotic. You can't reason with the crazy so you try to help the child.

Plus, is it wrong that I find Moriarty sexy?! Blush

Actually it had a distinct resemblance to the 'Heaven Sent' episode in Doctor Who series 9, whee the Doctor is trapped in a castle and has to solve a series of puzzles to survive- only that was more believable...

YorkiesGlasses · 15/01/2017 23:53

Though, I'm now wondering why Benedict said something about it being hard to carry on with the show after the way season 4 ends. What would make it hard? The main cast are all alive and well, the 'era defining genius' who just needed a hug is back in her fortress, the bizarrely warm and nurturing former assassin is gone, 221B has been restored right down to the bullet holes, they are solving crimes again. They are perfectly set up for series 5 - if they go back to basics and remember that just because the BBC are throwing loads of cash at you doesn't mean you have to spend it all...

SinisterBumFacedCat · 15/01/2017 23:59

Ah well, I enjoyed it Hmm

DiseasesOfTheSheep · 16/01/2017 00:01

Bah humbug. I liked it. I love Gatiss. And all of them, to be honest.

Just need to lie in a darkened room for a few hours to calm down.

Or possibly a few years. Which would work wonderfully if we're getting more in that sort of time frame!

pieceofpurplesky · 16/01/2017 00:18

I was very excited though as I have been in that island! St Catharine's Island in Tenby. Used to be a zoo!

FuntyCuck · 16/01/2017 00:19

Nah.

Rewatched the first episode earlier. This series isn't even in the same league as the first two.

Trying to look clever only actually works if it is. Not all this faffing about hugging nutters and forgetting about chains.

I swear I was shouting at the screen 'Oh ffs I'll bloody shoot him, can we move on?'

Northernlurker · 16/01/2017 00:22

I was appalled by this episode. Really disappointing and distasteful.

BitOfFun · 16/01/2017 00:31

I loved it. Sorry.
