New thread Grin

OP posts:
DeepanKrispanEven · 16/12/2016 16:51

The thing is, I don't think a show dance has to be jaw-dropping. I actually dislike those professional ones that are really just a gymnastic show, and very few celebrities can pull it off anyway. I think that's where Brendan went wrong with Snowflake - he was trying to do it the way professional showdancers do, and neither he nor Lisa were up to it. Anton also messed up trying to choreograph that sort of thing last year when he should have played to his talents and gone for more of a Fred'n'Ginge theme. In general they're much better off going for something with a theme that is fun, like Tom and Camilla's.

SapphireStrange · 16/12/2016 17:08

I agree, Deepan. That world champion showdance couple were just contortionists as far as I'm concerned.

I really liked Pamela Stephenson's show dance. I know a lot of people found it disappointing or underwhelming, but I thought it was heartfelt and emotional, rather than just being full of tricksy things.

Tom and Camilla's was fabulous.

Do we have a new thread for the final?

QueenMortificado · 16/12/2016 18:15

Is anyone watching ITT? Danny Mac comes along as so absolutely lovely. I want him and Oti to win

GrouchyKiwi · 16/12/2016 18:18

Agree, Queen. He seems a total sweetheart. I think he and Oti have the best relationship of the remaining couples as well.

Fiderer · 16/12/2016 18:22

Buggeration, am going to be out tomorrow too. First date I've been on since 1873 so was all insouciant (?) and said yes.

Part of me (98% right now) wishes I'd said "No" Grin If it's a dis-AHST-ah darlings, I'll be back here mascara-smudged for a catch up and sympathy.

Fiderer · 16/12/2016 18:31

KfG has v Bisto hair tonight.

Both spouting nauseating gubbins as well. Can't work out why I dislike them both, tbh.

QueenMortificado · 16/12/2016 18:37

Agree Grouchy

Although I also quite liked KFG tonight so I don't know if there is something wrong with me

I think I can do without seeing Ore blubbing in to the tissues just now

bonfireheart · 16/12/2016 21:08

I like KFG but people online make me like I shouldn't, all the posters on Digital Spy just unnecessarily ranting about him. I like that he's happy and hyper and loves his job.
That said I think they should forget the celebs and give the glitterball to Oti and Kevin!

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 16/12/2016 21:23

I'm out too Sad It's a Christmas concert which I will enjoy, but...

I think I quite liked Chris Hollins showdance. Tom's is definitely my favourite ever though.

Millimat · 16/12/2016 22:48

Another vote for Tom chambers as the best showdance ever, in fact I'm off to Google it right now...

Millimat · 16/12/2016 22:52

In case you haven't seen it- and no props either! m.youtube.com/watch?v=qiFA730zRTo

MyWineTime · 17/12/2016 00:12

Tom's showdance was in a class of its own.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 17/12/2016 01:13

I have a soft spot for showdance actually. That was back when theming a dance to that level was unusual. And there were some really good lifts in there (plus some wonderfully camp bits!).

I think Colin and Erin's was unfortunate - it was a fun idea and showed his dancing off well, it was just too out there!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 17/12/2016 06:46

I was disappointed with Jay's showdance at the time (still think if they had incororated a bit of jive in at the end crowd would have gone wilder) but have watched it now too many times to count and it really is classy and shows off his talent. Denise and James were good. Pamela's AT we didn't get to see but training footage is on youtube far better than her freestyle.
I do quite like the medley ones: loved Kristina's choreo for Jason and LeastWorstMemberOfBlueâ„¢ based on the medley concept. Am a sucker for homages to Michael Jackson (done on German Strictly and DWTS) although they lack originality.
Poor Anton: in the run up I thought his freestyle would be vintage yes but then Kevin knocked it out the park with that American Smooth. Kellie's lindy hop was good albeit frenetic but her costume and wig were so off putting/unflattering (and she requested them allegedly) I spent much of the routine distracted in a bad way.

My favourite Strictly showdances are:
Anita and Gleb's Cheerleading Salsa
Will and Karen's Bollywood salsa

Wink Grin

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 17/12/2016 09:26

I liked Jay's showdance because it was just understated dancing to a fab song.

Kellie and Kevin's may as well have had "We are desperate to win" stamped across it from start to finish. I would have been more impressed with Georgia's if it hadn't been lifted so shamelessly from a DWTS one choreographed by Derek Hough, I think.

morningtoncrescent62 · 17/12/2016 09:41

Oh, thank you so much, Polkadots, I loved Julian and Erin and I've never been able to find any decent quality videos of them. You don't happen to know where I might find their paso, do you? It's one of my all-time favourite comedy dances and I'd love to see it again. I didn't like Colin and Erin's, though I thought Erin looked absolutely gorgeous in That Suit. Ah, the good ol' days! Xmas Grin

I'm another who'll be out this evening and catching up later, but to be honest, I don't mind because that way I can fast forward all of Darcey's comments and Ore snivelling away - I just have to make sure I stay away from all social media until I've seen it. Rooting for Danny and Oti.

TimTamTerrier · 17/12/2016 11:18

Is anyone planning to watch Dancing with the Stars Ireland? It starts on the 8th of January. They've announced the celebs and pros already. The only celeb that I've heard of before is the reporter who went viral last year when she was reporting on the bad storm we had. One of the pros is AJ's younger brother.

FlappysMammyAndPopeInExile · 17/12/2016 11:30

TimTam

I am now! Grin

TimTamTerrier · 17/12/2016 11:32

Oh good Flappys, I'll have a least one person to discuss it with. Grin

ElspethFlashman · 17/12/2016 11:38

OMG she lives near me, lol. May have to watch it!

I honestly think the pool is too small though. I mean the UK is massive and SCD is still populated by a bunch of "who??!"

CaveMum · 17/12/2016 13:40

AJ's younger brother?! So about 13 then? Wink

Who wants last thread honours? It can double up as the Xmas Special thread if there's enough room.

OP posts:
Peppapogstillonaloop · 17/12/2016 13:54

I love strictly to bits and dd is into it too this year which is doubly nice..but I just can't get invested in any of the dancers left..louise is beyond dull and ore and all the crying ffs! With all the bloody awful stuff going on at the moment in Syria (and the rest) I just want to give them all a bloody good smack and tell them to get some perspective when they start snivelling about their journey! I know it's the same every year but for some reason I just can't get into it this year!!

KimmySchmidtsSmile · 17/12/2016 15:02

tam I would love to watch DWTS Ireland. But I have no idea how to access RTE from Germany. Am hoping after looking on their website I can watch via app. Not sure I can stream it live but looking forward to it.
Maybe some kind soul will post on YouTube like they do with the UK version.
Am rooting for the two names I know: Des Bishop and his pro, and whoever Vitali Kozmin gets (thought he would pop up on Strictly as he is Burn the Floor alumni but their loss, DWTS gain). Wonder what happened to Robin Windsor rumour. And no Tristan, more's the pity. Nicky Byrne presenting is interesting as he was a bit bland when on the show.

TimTamTerrier · 17/12/2016 15:43

You can download the RTEplayer international app Kimmy. Some of the content is free and some requires a subscription, I imagine DWTS will be a subscription program.

I'm not keen on Nicky Byrne myself. He is a radio DJ here in Dublin and he has a co-host who is very lively and bubbly, she is quirky to liven up his bland. I might fast-forward through his bits the way I used to with Bruce.
