New thread Grin

OP posts:
2rebecca · 13/12/2016 08:09

Agree with purpledaisies. It wasn't the comments about the result being available as regular posters to the thread know the Sun show is recorded on Saturday, it was the stroppy comments after people said it was up that were the problem.

WalrusGumboot · 13/12/2016 08:20

The trouble with even mentioning the spoiler is that it invites conversation about the spoiler. Those who are new and don't know the protocol here might think it's OK to then make further reference to it.

ppeatfruit · 13/12/2016 08:23

I hope it will be Karen to take over Len's role, she's fun and very fair when she does her judging bit on IT2. It will balance the panel too.

AJ and Claudia were lovely on it too, so nice. I liked him saying to her "you're not JUST a gymnast". They like one another as friends (nothing stronger IMO).

DeepanKrispanEven · 13/12/2016 08:46

I got fairly tired of Claudia moaning on about how being a gymnast made it so difficult for her, as if all the flexibility and fitness were some sort of disadvantage.

ppeatfruit · 13/12/2016 09:02

True it worked for Louis didn't it? I reckon she could've won with a shorter partner.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/12/2016 09:07

They might have had to look in the junior class for that!

SoupDragon · 13/12/2016 09:13

It took a while for Louis to get into Dance Mode though. He was criticised constantly for lack of emotion wasn't he? I think his Charleston was a turning point if I remember correctly.

SoupDragon · 13/12/2016 09:20

Thinking about it, I don't think gymnastics is a lot of help beyond fitness. The floor routines are all very staccato really with no hint of emotion or characterisation. It's very much "do a move, waft arms to get into the right position and fill time, do next move". Whilst they obviously have a physical advantage, they need to overcome the training that makes them move in a series of separate set pieces.

QueenMortificado · 13/12/2016 09:21

A lot of gymnasts I know are terrible dancers. They are quite wooden to move but just with great flexibility, if that makes sense.

I think claudia's problem is that going from gymnast to dancer is hard but as they are both creative disciplines she didn't get very much sympathy for it as many people wouldn't realise it is hard to go between the two.

ppeatfruit · 13/12/2016 09:27

Yes Soup Though it's actually DANCING that is the most difficult thing to do (esp. when you have the discipline of the steps to learn) , as you said the flowingness, body awareness and coordination of the moves is what makes a dancer. However flexible you are.

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 10:40

Karen for Head Judge!

She's knowledgeable, articulate, clear, passionate and hugely respected.

I want Ian Waite back on the main show too, while we're at it.

HalleLouja · 13/12/2016 10:51

If we are bringing back anyone I have a list

Lilia
Darren
Matthew Cutler

There must be some others.

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 11:08

I wouldn't mind Lilia, but I can do without Darren and his chubby smugness.

Matthew was OK. Very sweet with Alesha.

I miss Kristina and her beautiful expressive feet. I'd like Original Katya back, too; she didn't take any nonsense. And the Irish chap (Tristan?) who couldn't be bothered even trying to pretend he gave a shit. Grin

HalleLouja · 13/12/2016 11:14

Oh I liked Katya. I think have rose tinted specs with Darren and that Jive.

Also add to the list Flavia. I saw her live and she is stunning. Oh and Robin / Kristina who I saw on Burn the Floor.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/12/2016 11:20

I'd like Trent "so laid back he was horizontal" Whiddon back as a pro. I was very sad we only had him for one series, he was great fun Grin

I think Karen would be a good choice for head judge, although I wouldn't mind if they brought a non-Strictly related judge in either. Probably not Keith Clifton though, can you imagine the outrage? Grin

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 11:22

Oh yes, Robin! What a sweetie.

I thought Flavia was a bit chilly. I never really got to like her. Or Vincent, come to think of it. I used to like when they did an amazing Argentine Tango, though, to show the slebs what they were going to have to try to master.

That's a whole other conversation about mixing up the dances as opposed to everyone doing the same one, though. Grin

QueenMortificado · 13/12/2016 11:24

Didn't realise KFG was a joke outside of MN, let alone on his parents website!!

DeepanKrispanEven · 13/12/2016 11:34

I liked Tristan McManus, he had a lovely relaxed attitude to it all and wasn't scared to take the piss.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 13/12/2016 11:50

Sapphire I really liked that when they had the pro group dance or one pro couple 'demonstrating' the dance. That's going back a bit now though!

areyoubeingserviced · 13/12/2016 11:57

Would like Tristran , Flavia ,Vincent and Matthew back on Strictly

EnthusiasmDisturbed · 13/12/2016 12:30

Love Flavia and Vincent wish they would come back

my favourite dances ever are Vincent and Rachel's tango and Flavia and Louis show dance

this series it has been Claudia and AJ Argentinian Tango

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 12:41

Polka, yes it is; I'm ancient sad a long-term fan. Grin

MoonriseKingdom · 13/12/2016 12:49

I'm probably the only one but I loved Brian Fortuna. Also miss lovely Lilia and Vincent/Flavia. As others have said Claudia might have done better with Vincent.

Another vote for Karen Hardy as head judge.

MoonriseKingdom · 13/12/2016 12:56

Ooh I missed Kristina. Thought it was a shame that her private life sometimes overshadowed her wonderful dancing. Loved her AT and dhowdance with Simon Webbe. There was a radio 4 show earlier in the year about Ballroom dancing in Russia with her and Gleb talking. Dancing really changed her life I think.

SapphireStrange · 13/12/2016 12:59

I think Kristina danced with more genuine love and feeling than anyone since the glory days of Karen Hardy.
