THE MISSING IS BACK - part 4

As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

The quote was from Goethe's Faust - re the devil.

hester I didn't read the first thread (I'm a latecomer to the missing) but yes what was going on with Alice - and you get the impression no one seemed overly fussed! I have an 11 year old and I would be shocked if she behaved like that!

Have we had any more explanation of the 'family friend' situation with DK and Lena? I'm assuming that Lenas parents weren't army so not sure how they would have been friends. I still think Brig is involved in something but not convinced it's the kidnapping, DK strikes me as someone who is a loner and wants the girls for himself

Ellle · 26/11/2016 19:32

Someone posted a link to a timeline on Den of Geek and I'm confused by the first event.
It says 1976- A photograph is taken of a young Adam Gettrick and his uncle at the Swiss cabin that the uncle will later leave to Adam in his will.

Can someone tell me in which episode was this detail given? I seem to have missed it!

LarkDescending · 26/11/2016 19:41

Ellle I haven't checked back, but I think Gettrick and Sophie looked at and discussed the photo of the cabin in their scene in the shuttered bedroom in Episode 6.

LarkDescending · 26/11/2016 19:49

Sorry, not the shuttered bedroom scene. It was the haircutting scene a bit later in Episode 6, around the 46-47 minute mark.

shallichangemyname · 26/11/2016 19:59

The implication was uncle had abused Gettrick in some way

Ollycat · 26/11/2016 20:10

Gettrick says something along the lines of "the only nice thing he did to me" (leaving the cabin)

The Brig mentioned the 3 lost souls in the context of Sam's unit taking fire in Basra in 2010.

Has any mention been made of his diagnosis? He was fine in 2914, and still serving. By 2016, he was far from fine - not just erratic memory, but also incontinent. That seems terribly fast, even for sudden early onset (indeed closer to symptoms of tertiary syphillis, but that might be a speculation too far).

Have been rewatching, and the photos on his desk are 2x military line ups in sandy places plus one pic of a woman.

In one of his confused conversations with Eve, he talked of another lovely girl with alabaster skin who he'd known in the past, but said it wasn't Eve's mother. So who?

Also, when Sam was babysitting him, he mentioned Alice's live of spiders. How did he know about that, without guilty knowledge? Or was her going off the rails common knowledge in the military community? Did Driller deliberately prey on troubled, very young girls?

AllPowerfulLizardPerson · 26/11/2016 20:44

I've also been looking in a site about the language of flowers.

It says that statice, depending on context, usually signifies Remembrance,
Sympathy, or Success (flower shop worker said 'remembrance')

It went on to say more about specific colours of statice. Purple can signify Fantasy, Enchantment, Mystery, Charm, Grace.

It's also, apparently, commonly used in flowers for reunions.

All of which might be totally irrelevant!

Ollycat · 26/11/2016 20:50

Oooh interesting re flowers!

I know it's been discussed before but who are the other 2 girls with Eve on the fridge photo??

Ellle · 26/11/2016 21:09

Thanks LarkDescending , shallichangemyname and Ollycat !

I couldn't understand the speculation about the abusive uncle that had the cabin. Now it makes sense.

I'm re-watching the episodes to see what else I've missed.

shallichangemyname · 26/11/2016 21:47

I want to binge watch them againbegire Wednesday but don't think I'll manage 7 hours in time! I particularly want to rewatch the first 2 because I wasn't fully focussed back then, and 6 for the nuances I missed in the excitement!

shins · 26/11/2016 22:42

Agreed that Alice's pre-abduction life is oddly glossed over. Yes there's the spider tattoo but I get very little sense of what she was like or her relationships with family nembers were. It makes it a bit harder to "care" about her.

EnidButton · 26/11/2016 22:58

Shalli Oh I like your '13 year old was pregnant' theory. Not sure if that's too clever for this series but it's a good one and would make sense.

whistlingkettle · 26/11/2016 23:47

Do we know what was in the note Daniel left for his girlfriend Marlene? Is Lena short for Marlene 😳

meatloaf · 27/11/2016 01:32

I have never worked out how did Baptise know to ask Gemma to look through the rollercoaster images??

Tokelau · 27/11/2016 02:22

I've watched all the episodes so far, and decided to watch again from the start. I've only got as far as the first episode second time around, but I think that Sam is involved somehow in the abductions. His reactions to the things that happen seem odd to me.

Ollycat · 27/11/2016 06:57

meatloaf when "Alice" came back she talked about when she went on the rollercoaster- Gemma said they'd never been and "Alice" said it was whilst she was missing.

meatloaf Baptiste was in France having chemotherapy ? was on a drip "poisoning my body" and called Gemma. Said he'd read an interview with her in a French magazine where she mentioned the rollercoaster and he thought from the description the fairground could be identified.

Can't remember if she did that or he did.
