As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

I ended up reading up on a few of the long-term captive cases because of this series and they're all so very unbelievable - how their abductors get away with it for so many years and carry on their normal everyday lives is chilling.

The acting in this serious has been brilliant!
The micro expressions and looks/body language from the actors are amazing when you watch back knowing the truth.

The actor who plays the brig made his eyes focus/unfocus and his face go blank as he slips in & out of his dementia - his eyes stayed focussed at the end when he was speaking to Eve, which is why I think he was 'faking' that bit.
Gettrick had a twitch under his eye when Baptiste asked him about other girls.
Keeley Hawes is just amazing and so believable (in everything she does).

Sad it's finished!

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 21:33

I agree with Mango. Brig had dementia definitely but he put the 'I don't know where I am' on to get himself out of answering questions both when Baptiste was at the home with him and at the end when Eve was asking him to tell her the truth. He used it for his own benefit during lucid moments basically,

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 21:34

^ but Eve wasn't buying it at the end. She knows.

DodoRevival · 01/12/2016 21:36

Keely Hawkes was amazing. I thought David's managed to get everything across with just his facial expressions when in the cellar and saw that the stars.

All acting was great - really believe each character was the actual character rather than an acted role

braceybracegirl · 01/12/2016 21:37

Poster who said wonder how many other girls it's happened to in real life. I wonder if it's what happened to Madeline McCann.

braceybracegirl · 01/12/2016 21:41

I just googled sabine dardenne and really wish I hadn't. Absolutely horrific.

MarthasHarbour · 01/12/2016 21:41

I reckon Eve knew Brig was faking it. And decided to take him home with her, to live out his own personal hell for his part in it. In a way that he couldn't go back from faking the dementia, as he had got in too deep.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 23:00

I don't think he was faking it. Just putting it on at times when he was ok, in order to get out of situations he didn't like. (eve and Baptiste questioning him.) He definitely did have dementia.

EnidButton · 01/12/2016 23:00

But yes, Eve knew he was putting it on on the hospital at the end.

Llareggub · 01/12/2016 23:04

I still don't understand why the real Sophie didn't want to speak to her father.

S1lentAllTheseYears · 02/12/2016 00:02

Probably Drilla had lied to her about her real family not wanting her or along those lines.

I agree Stone must have had dementia - surely no one could fake it that well for that long and, also, he gave some things away like "what the three of us did to that poor girl" which he wouldn't have done if he was faking it completely. He was more aware than he made out at times though.

shinynewusername · 02/12/2016 02:06

People in the early stages of dementia typically have much better recollection of events in the distant past than things that have happened recently. So it's quite plausible that he could have genuinely been confused about the present day, but still remember Iraq.

teainbed · 02/12/2016 06:39

Twitter Q&A with the writers said the Brig definitely had dementia but to what extent......

NoahVale · 02/12/2016 07:05

just watched the final excellent episode.
very pleased about the way it finished.

Fiderer · 02/12/2016 08:01

I'd like an epilogue episode with the following scenes:

Alice & Gemma - also talking about Lena.

Alice & Matthew.

Alice & Sophie.

Sam not dead but injured and in hospital, a mirrored scene where Alice visits him and says "Hi dad."

Lucy & Alice.

Baptiste & Eve.

Baptiste well and with new bee hives.

Someone kicking the shit out of Gettrick.

Kristian Herz back in his butcher shop with a thriving business and then closing to go off bird-watching again.

Moon on a stick Grin

And then a new series with Baptiste (alas poor LovelyJorn) and the Iceland chap Stefan.

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 02/12/2016 08:53

I'd pay good money to watch that, FidererFiderer. Smile

I think the most we can expect is series 3 with St. Julien

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 02/12/2016 08:54

Sorry, I seem to have developed a stutter!

mumdebump · 02/12/2016 08:55

Why did Gettrick send Sophie to Switzerland after faking the death in the shed, instead of just putting her back in the cellar? If he'd hidden her there successfully for 11-13 years and was still hiding Alice & Lucy in his house/cellar then why not put Sophie back there?

TheFreaksShallInheritTheEarth · 02/12/2016 08:59

His situation was far more precarious now, mumde Stone may have fessed up, or the butcher proved innocent.
Also he had just inherited the cottage and qualified for his pension, so could leave work.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 02/12/2016 10:29

The rollercoaster doesn't sit perfectly with me either, I kept thinking that. All I could think was Lucy was already born, and drilla had her hostage when they went out - and none of them wanted to be the one to get a baby killed. Who knows what other girls they'd seen come in and die?

I'm sure that would be the explanation.

Dancergirl · 02/12/2016 11:59

LOVED the last episode, in fact I have so enjoyed the whole series. It's been the best thing on TV for a long time. So brilliantly written. I enjoyed the first series but this one was even better.

I was upset that Sam was killed though, I didn't see that coming at all. I thought he would recover from the gunshot Sad

And that last scene with Baptiste just before his op - so poignant. Thank God they didn't kill him off.

What are we doing to do on Wednesday nights now??

WidowTwonky · 02/12/2016 13:36

Sorry if I'm asking the same thing that's already been asked, but why did Sophie have bloodied knuckles in the chalet when she was cuddling up to Lucy? Has she started abusing Alice too?

youngestisapsycho · 02/12/2016 14:03

The blood was from the rabbit that Drilla was holding and had just shot.

MarthasHarbour · 02/12/2016 14:05

Good question widow I wondered where the knuckles came from...

OreoHeaven · 02/12/2016 14:13

I thought the last episode was a bit meh. Nowhere near gripping enough.
