THE MISSING IS BACK - part 4

As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

We need The Williams Brothers to come on MN for a de-brief

Brilliant idea!

Did someone say they were doing a webchat on the BBC site at 1pm today? I can't easily find it.

MarthasHarbour · 01/12/2016 15:02

Drilla was hanging around the hospital when Sophie was in there having her appendix out, he could have gone into her private room when noone was there to give her more orders, so she would have been told about Henry Reed then

diddl · 01/12/2016 15:13

" but agree leaving a photo of where they were going was very unlikely. "

Although if the Swiss francs hadn't been found & the discovery of Gettrick's relative registered, what would the chances have been of finding the place?

CremeEggThief · 01/12/2016 15:29

I think Brig Stone definitely has dementia, although he might have played on it at times. No way would a proud military man soil himself on purpose, in front of a junior colleague like Sam. No way.

rainbowstardrops · 01/12/2016 15:51

Absolutely LOVED this series!!!! What on earth am I going to do on a Thursday afternoon now when I watch it while the kids are out?!
The only think that doesn't really make sense to me is that Driller took the three girls out to a theme park. Really???!!!! Especially as he said that Lena doesn't shut up. That would be way too risky surely?
I so hope that lovely Baptiste pulls through and there's a series 3. Lovely idea that he counted down to three as a nod to that. Let's hope so!

NancyDonahue · 01/12/2016 16:02

He could have counted to three because he was thinking of Sophie, Alice and Lucy. Three lives saved.

Elendon · 01/12/2016 16:49

CremeEgg But it would have been okay for a military man to swap DNA? To hide the fact that a woman was abducted? To cover up crimes?

MargotLovedTom · 01/12/2016 17:40

And it's okay for an upstanding military man to abuse girls in Iraq? Wetting his pants was nothing in the greater scheme of things!

braceybracegirl · 01/12/2016 17:50

I think he shat his pants

Charley50 · 01/12/2016 17:54

Just a thought - when Sophie was in hospital after she was first found.. She was telling the family that she had been abducted etc. and people commented on how it was odd there were quite a few people present. Was Driller in the hospital room then?

Charley50 · 01/12/2016 17:57

Brig showed a complete lack of morals by letting Driller continue his terrible abuse; just to save his own skin about an accidental fire death and maybe some underage sex.
So I think his daughter was taking him down the Nick at the end.

NancyDonahue · 01/12/2016 18:08

I need to watch the whole series again to try and spot clues I missed.

EmilyAlice · 01/12/2016 18:10

I thought so too. I think that the moment he went all vague and said, "where am I, why am I here" (or something similar), was when she realised that he was pretending.

EmilyAlice · 01/12/2016 18:11

... I thought she was taking him down the Nick too.

Marmitelover55 · 01/12/2016 18:19

Didn't the brig also kill the girl's father in Iraq? That was murder rather than accidental. I don't think he was faking dementia, there was no need for him to soil himself for it to be convincing.

ClassmateHB · 01/12/2016 18:19

The rollercoaster doesn't sit perfectly with me either, I kept thinking that. All I could think was Lucy was already born, and drilla had her hostage when they went out - and none of them wanted to be the one to get a baby killed. Who knows what other girls they'd seen come in and die?

rainbowstardrops · 01/12/2016 19:24

It just seems weird to me. He's got at least Alice down in the basement chalking stars but then let's them all out to a theme park. That's just a bit mad.
I've loved it so much though so I'll try and overlook it!

S1lentAllTheseYears · 01/12/2016 19:28

There were plenty of unbelieveable bits put in to move the plot along but I can forgive them!

I would like to know how did Sophie get to Switzerland? She can't have driven there so did Drilla take her and, if so, why did he leave the campervan there - how did he get back. And why was she even there anyway? She didn't need to be there for months and months getting things ready. I know Drilla was worried that the neighbours were suspicious but he still had Alice and Lucy at his house so why risk Sophie being in Switzerland wandering about getting noticed by waiters?

Still loved it though!

GrumbleBumble · 01/12/2016 19:30

There are real cases where kidnap victims have been taken for days out - it can be part of the manipulation. Behave or you will not get another day out.
We can all find little bits that we find hard to believe but ultimately if you are not prepared to suspend your disbelief at least a little then watching drama probably isn't for you.

altik · 01/12/2016 19:34

I wondered if the theme park bit was modelled on the Natascha Kampusch case - she was kept in the cellar for years, but later on was allowed out - was spotted in the garden (alone), went in the car on errands and even to a ski trip for her birthday...

So perhaps not so far fetched!

Charley50 · 01/12/2016 20:08

There was a young teen in the US who was kidnapped and held by a couple. She was allowed to the shop etc after a while, but she was scared and brainwashed and didn't escape for a long time. She did eventually, and I think her relationship with her stepdad was ruined, partly because he had been a suspect. It was nothing to do with him, but the blame stuck.

shins · 01/12/2016 20:29

Jaycee Dugard? Yes that was awful, she had two kids. Poor little girl was taken aged ten.

So many horrible cases come to light in the last few years. It makes you wonder how many girls and women are being kept prisoner right now Sad

DownWithThisSortaThing · 01/12/2016 20:55

I don't think Jaycee escaped - IIRC, her captor would take the children out often and had taken them somewhere where the staff were suspicious about their behaviour so started asking questions, alerted the police, she was found and interviewed but she denied who she really was for quite a long time until she felt safe enough to reveal her true identity. She must have been very scared and confused.

Charley50 · 01/12/2016 20:55

Yes that's her. That was a shocking and horrible thing to happen to her.

storminabuttercup · 01/12/2016 21:20

I read a book many years ago, I choose to live about Sabine dardenne, was heartbreaking, she was 'only' there for 80 days but suffered terribly
