As part 3 is full.

I'm having a day off due to illness, so am planning a re-watch from the beginning as have got used to the time switches that confused me at first. Quite looking forward to it - will pay extra attention to all things yellow, legs in fireplaces and anything else that you suggest. Probably cover my eyes at the drilla moment again though!

The Brig conveniently got himself diagnosed the day Gettrick told him 'it was happening' that Sophie had returned. He had come from the appointment and met Eve to make his case to her 'to remember the good things' in case it all came out.

He knew he had the choice to face his past, which he couldn't, or find a way to live which would mean he wasn't a threat to Gettrick.

Dementia was a front to hide behind. But he had made his own prison, condemned to fake dementia.

Yes, the body in the boot was the young policeman.

Fiderer · 30/11/2016 22:27

Gettrick in the basement was vile. Kicking Alice and snarling "Get back in your corner."

And good for Eve for mobilising the Swiss armed police. Would also liked to have seen the aftermath of it all back at the garrison.

Good also that Gettrick was shot and survived.

Where's Baptiste's medal?

goingtotown · 30/11/2016 22:28

So sorry this has ended. Well done BBC, worth every penny of my TV licence.

Elendon · 30/11/2016 22:28

I agree, I think the Brig faked dementia. However, I wouldn't have him near my daughter, but perhaps Eve has a forgiving soul.

BeyondTheHarpy · 30/11/2016 22:30

There was one suspension of disbelief moment in this episode for me though. Read might have been hiding stuff higher up in the MP, but surely any SoC person with eyes could have told that suicidal people don't tend to shoot themselves in the head while a) lying on the floor and b) not leaving any gunpowder residue on their hand?!

avamiah · 30/11/2016 22:30

Hesterton,
I don't think Sophie's father was bad to her or abused her.
I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

CheshireSplat · 30/11/2016 22:32

Oh, that was very satisfying. I think I sobbed all the way through the last 20 minutes.

Don't want to cover what PPs have said, so my thoughts are:

Pleased with the exchange between Eve and Gemma after the funeral. I thought last week when they were chatting at the barbecue that they could have been friends in other circumstances.

If Baptiste thinks there were other girls, presumably there were? But I guess they're not alive anymore, or they be locked up with "our" two girls.

Poor Sophie. Good to remember that there wouldn't necessarily be straightforward happy endings in this situation.

And yes, I agree the Brig is faking - the timing after Gettrick's call.

Oh. What am I going to do with my time now???

ClassmateHB · 30/11/2016 22:32

Noel, Drilla said that Lena was dead at that point - he already knew he needed an out, so set up the recording for the bribary purposely then

ewanthedreamsheep · 30/11/2016 22:32

I did think it quite funny that he got out his glasses cloth to clean the gun!

Riversleep · 30/11/2016 22:33

I agree there was something more sinister about Stone. He wasn't shocked at all that Gettrick had a missing girl in his house. And he did say something about 'what we did with those girls' so it implied that they were all shagging young girls in Iraq. Stone had a teenage daughter at the time, which is pretty sick, but it does happen.

ObiWankyKnobby · 30/11/2016 22:33

Who was the body in the boot of the car at the end? Eve is there, also lots of police cars. I have a wild theory that Eve may have executed her father (but that doesn't seem in keeping with her character). Any ideas you wise folk?

BeyondTheHarpy · 30/11/2016 22:34

See I don't buy that he faked it just cause he said that, I interpret it that he knew it probably would come out one day, but by then he might not remember himself by then to be able to fight back against the negative image. So he wanted eve to remember that, should that happen.

ClassmateHB · 30/11/2016 22:34

Drilla has spent 11 years poisoning Sophie against her dad. That sticks.

AnnieNoMouse · 30/11/2016 22:34

Obi - it was Jorn, the German policeman who Drilla did some extreme DIY with

PenguinsandPebbles · 30/11/2016 22:35

Spent the second half in tears!! Only just finished and still a bit teary eyed.

My main question was about the body in the car, thanks for clearing that up :)

But I want to know so so much more!! What else he did and how they cope moving forward.

beyond id also add they don't tend to hit themselves or try to strangle themselves first either, that is the only part that frustrated me.

ObiWankyKnobby · 30/11/2016 22:35

Oh, just seen that it's lovely mix tape policeman. That makes sense!

ClassmateHB · 30/11/2016 22:35

Don't forget he told her that Alices parents cared about where she was, but hers didn't.

Clawdy · 30/11/2016 22:35

Yes,there was nothing to imply Sophie's dad ill-treated her. If that was the case, why was Baptist beaming fondly as the dad greeted his grandchild?

MoonfaceAndSilky · 30/11/2016 22:36

Who was the body in the boot of the car at the end?

It was Jorn, the lovely policeman, that Drilla Drilled!!!!

Sorrento2014 · 30/11/2016 22:36

Very moving also when Alice was reunited with her brother. His life has been sad too,I'd like to think he can 'heal' and move on with his life

JungleWait · 30/11/2016 22:36

Why did Sophie's dad not come in the 1st episode to identify her when baptise suspected 'Alice' was Sophie? There must be a back story?
