PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/11/2016 15:55

The last thread is almost full, so I thought we'd be prepared.

Despite the title I do love the Blackpool week really Grin Fingers crossed for a nice ballroom dance from the pros.

Oh, I think they've changed it. Seats are now validated at 9am and it very much is first come, first served - if you rock up at 6am you'll be 150th in the queue. However, then you're free to sod off for the rest of the day and come back later in the afternoon. Think they changed the way they do it a couple of years ago, from what I've read. I am very excited, regardless!

AmberNectarine · 22/11/2016 17:12

tickets are validated

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 17:12

Thanks for that acurtis Great to get the lowdown on the show, so all is not as glamourous as it seems Grin esp. the loos Grin.

acurtis1234 · 22/11/2016 17:17

aaah, cool, I didn't know that, think I last went about three years ago...that does sound a much better system as there is so much queueing and gut wrenching wondering if you would get a good seat or not. In fact I remember when it was at TV Centre in Shepherds Bush, in a smaller studio, a lady told me she was the last person in the public queue to get in, and those behind, all dressed up and excited, lost out. Basically they over allocated the public tickets to account for no shows. If that was true, that sounds bonkers!

You will absolutely have a great time regardless, you'll see so much other amazing stuff outside of the dancing. Do come back and tell us next week!

wannabestressfree · 22/11/2016 17:17

Hadn't thought of that Yvaine :)
Your right I am out anyway....
don't forget to comment on the inside goss with judge rinder and his partner Grin

QueenMortificado · 22/11/2016 17:18

Of course I'm not thread police. Just asking for a bit of consideration for other posters. Nowt wrong with that.

Anyway, I'll get back to discussing sequins and bum wiggles.

acurtis1234 · 22/11/2016 17:19

ppeatfruit well hopefully they've upgraded the loo situation from when I went too! TBH, if you don't work in TV or film and you're not all blase and jaded from it all, then you don't really notice all the boring stuff, it's a massive buzz from start to finish just being part of it.

wannabestressfree · 22/11/2016 17:25

Thanks Queen x

Bountybarsyuk · 22/11/2016 17:51

The relationship between the Judge and Oksana is very professional, all such pairings are touchy feely by the nature of the dancing, but he always goes on about how great she is as a teacher and a trainer. It doesn't stray into making people feel uncomfortable or have a 'get a room' moment, however inaccurate that might be.

On a different note I think Danny and Oti seem to be getting on really well, I get the impression that they have had their ups and downs and haven't been always sure they gel personality-wise, but I guess being very successful and Oti's brilliant choreography is making them a good team.

morningtoncrescent62 · 22/11/2016 18:10

PS Have fun, it's really fab being "inside" the telly for the night....!

Deeply, deeply Envy of anyone who gets to go to the show. I live the other side of the country and work commitments mean that I can't go down on a Friday night to do the early morning queuing thing, even if I could get tickets (which seems to be very hard).

OTOH, a little bit of stalking googling of Natalie earlier today turned up the show she's doing with Ian Waite next year, and I've booked tickets for when they're up here. Very excited! Much as I like Ian, I'm just the teensiest bit gutted that she's not touring with Brendan (I'd love to see last week's amazing VW in real life) but I'm still massively looking forward to it.

CongresswomanCaveMum · 22/11/2016 18:11

I think people often fail to understand quite how close you get when dancing (properly). In Ballroom the impetus of the man's body leads the woman to move and quite often you find yourself with your legs between each other's, thighs pressed firmly against one another. It's probably very disconcerting for a newcomer who can misinterpret the physical closeness to real intimacy.

It's also rather funny when you've got two women dancing together, as withbme and my teacher, and your boobs keep getting in the way of a proper hold!

QueenMortificado · 22/11/2016 18:16

CaveWoman completely agree - my salsa teacher always says that the mans lead needs to come from his hips and core, not his upper body jerking the woman around. That means that in reality you stand very close together!

It always makes me giggle like a child if I dance with another woman and our boobs mash together. When my teacher (very sexy man) does it it makes me blush all together!

SoupDragon · 22/11/2016 19:15

Surely there's no hint of "get a room" with Rob and Oksana because he's gay.

2kids2dogsnosense · 22/11/2016 19:21

wannabe

If it upsets you to read the stuff on here, why do you?

People speculate right, left and centre. Maybe there's a basis to it, maybe there ain't, but actually the more you insist there isn't, the more it looks as though there's something to deny. Sorry if that upsets you, but that human nature, I'm afraid.

I don't agree with that. It's nothing more than a malicious gossips charter.

ElspethFlashman · 22/11/2016 19:30

I may not think there's anything going on but I reserve the right to dislike their "characterisation" and to say so on here.

Bountybarsyuk · 22/11/2016 19:30

Soup yes, good point! I just notice Judge Rinder is very complimentary about her as a teacher, not just 'she's an amazing person' type stuff which to be fair, they do all do to some extent. Must be difficult if you don't actually like your partner physically or personality-wise, as with Laura when they went out, it was positively frosty by comparison.

I've danced salsa occasionally and know how physically close you get. It didn't spill for me ever off the dance-floor ever, and I presume it doesn't for most of the professional dancers as they often dance with one person professionally and date another dancer outside of that. I should say I'm not a professional dancer though, and it probably is very intense in those 10 hours training days and I can see how it all gets a bit blurred, and obviously now's the time to move it back again to a normal friendship with clearer bodily boundaries!

2kids2dogsnosense · 22/11/2016 19:33

Have to agree to disagree dearme. I think if people emote the way some do mentioning no names then there is bound to be comment - and I also think that some of them do this deliberately on the premise that "no publicity is bad publicity". Not saying they all do, but some do.

But I must say, when I say Natalie on ITT, sans her ballroom warpaint, I thought she looked a much more attractive woman, and seems so much nicer and more approachable than she does with all of her slap.

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 19:52

Yes, the dangers in this sport have been realized, and I like to think a line was drawn after Kristina and Ben last year. Ben's wife went through hell very publicly and no doubt her kids were hurt.

The public aren't stupid and they care actually - it's a family show and they don't want to see casualties to come out this. When there are warning signs and boundaries looked crossed - speaking up is good. If people get upset by that then maybe they need to get upset.

wannabestressfree · 22/11/2016 20:00

Am speechless you see yourself as some caped crusader for imaginary infidelity.....
Please don't let me stand in the way of your public duty....

AmberNectarine · 22/11/2016 20:06

acurtis yes apparently they allocate 800 tickets for c.400 seats, hence the need to arrive early. I was supposed to be away for the weekend but then the text arrived to say I'd got tickets, so whatcha gonna do?

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 20:11

Wannebe - well I want to speak as I feel - I don't want to be silenced.

I felt for Abby last year - that was very real. Maybe it's not us you should be talking to about this.

I was a great fan of Greg and Nat's dancing- if you look back on these threads you will see that. If all is well that's good.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 22/11/2016 20:22

Dear god I thought this was a noce chatty thread about a lighthearted dance show
Do you know what the twats seem to get everywhere on mumnsnet these days and spoil things
There's a sleazy goss thread over in chat piss off over there
Leave here for nice fun lighthearted chit chat

raisedbyguineapigs · 22/11/2016 20:25

I suppose the nature of being a dancer is that you are quite touchy feel by nature anyway, so it can be misinterpreted, especially when people do it when they are not dancing. I do find it a bit cringy and disrespectful when you know the person's partner is there but I'm not particularly tactile and need my personal space. I find it a bit Hmm too when actors are clearly contractually obliged to fake the doe eyes on the red carpet. Surely in these days of knowing celebs private lives it's adverse publicity?

Theromanempire · 22/11/2016 20:31

Woad, this thread has turned a bit nasty Hmm inkanta you seem to have taken Ben's infidelity very personally for some reason but I don't think that is a reason to tar every man with the same brush Hmm

I am sure wannabe has much more insight into what is actually going on than we do from the brief glimpses we see on television plus it is none of our business!

Can we get back to talking about sequins and stuff Grin

Just read an article in the DM which referred to Kevin as the 'fertility king' as 2 out of his 3 partners have got pregnant very quickly after the show has finished - what an image Shock
