The last thread is almost full, so I thought we'd be prepared.

Despite the title I do love the Blackpool week really Fingers crossed for a nice ballroom dance from the pros.

On a dance note, interestingly my teacher has just sent me the new syllabus for the Latin American teaching exam. You can now take it modularly - 1 dance at a time instead of all 5 at once - so once this baby has arrived I shall be kicking off with my first exam hopefully next Autumn!

Module 1 is a Rumba, so expect me to be very critical of the SCD Rumba's from now on while I practice!

Oh they totally sex it up. Yes it's the dance of love, but what you see on Strictly is almost a "cabaret" version of the dances - you wouldn't see a lot of the stuff on Strictly on a proper competition floor.

Here's a video of the Professional World Championship Final from 2010, with the couples dancing the Rumba.

Aside from the, er, facial expressions (which are to play to the crowd), they are nowhere near as "full on" as some routines you see on Strictly!

I think Greg and Natalie aren't cheating. I think they are friends. But most of us are too cynical to appreciate people saying nice stuff about each other. I too felt really sad for Ben's ex wife, especially the way Kristina told everyone on big brother she was pg. very insensitive to Ben's dcs.

glitter, yes that's Joanna Leunis. She's a stunning dancer and multiple World Champ. She's been on Strictly a few times with her partner Michael Malitowski.

Apparently she had cancer as a child and when her hair grew back after chemo she decided to keep it cropped short.

Thanks cavemum . The speed of those turns she does is phenomenal. On the competition it looked like the couples were close to knocking into each other. In competitions is there a set piece of music that they know they will be dancing to?

No the music is not normally known, you just choreograph your routine and adapt it to the music they play.

The dancers are close together, there are lots of little tricks people use, particularly in Ballroom, to try and get your competitor "stuck" in a corner! It's a dog eat dog world!

Thanks for the videos Cave. I wondered about them bumping, must be hard enough without having to keep an eye on the other dancers.

Not being dancey I found it hard to compare the couples and the commentary put me off with her wittering mostly about the German couple.

Although there is something fine about a man in a decent white shirt, am not a fan of the open almost to the waist look.

I think so. Also, when you dance on your own there's some stuff you can do that wouldn't be safe or practical on a competition floor with other couples.

Can you imagine some of Gleb and Anita's routines on a competition dancefloor? :o Talk about taking down the opposition!

The way to get rid of him would be to give him a non-showy dance, like the waltz, crap music and not allow any stunts like flying down from the ceiling. His last two have been fun and entertaining

I miss Gleb & Anita and his specials. I saw a routine he did this year the last half of it was him and his partner standing underneath a shower. He knows his market.

Well I disagree with you about Gleb redcrayons I liked Anita a lot (she's great on Countryfile) and I reckon she could've got into the finals without showoffy Gleb.
