SCD 2016 #7 - They're! In! Blackpool! The spiritual home of ballroom dancing, donkey rides, rock and... huge amounts of theming apparently?

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 19/11/2016 15:55

The last thread is almost full, so I thought we'd be prepared.

Despite the title I do love the Blackpool week really Grin Fingers crossed for a nice ballroom dance from the pros.

Inkanta - my post wasn't directed at you!

Just having an insomniac muse on what I watched earlier.

Sorry for misunderstanding Smile

What am I on about?

Ignore everything I ever say.

😳

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 07:24

There could be more to this high expressed emotion. Maybe a midlife crisis whereby Natalie may see her Strictly days coming to an end. She's 36 now. Kristina left when she was 37. Some leave to have babies. The men seem to stay longer - like Brendan.

FatimaLovesBread · 22/11/2016 07:26

But his name isn't nugget, one of his middle names is nugget, not sure why that's so Hmm

Fwiw I thought Greg did much better in the DO and would rather he'd have stayed. He seems like a throughly nice guy and I don't think he's at it with Natalie.
I also luffs Susie but now it just looks like I'm sucking up to Wannabe Grin

Sad news about Gorka

FatimaLovesBread · 22/11/2016 07:27

Ha x-post a lot, seems there was a whole extra pages Grin

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 07:33

Yvaine - no I wasn't responding to you Smile

I was just cringing. 'I love you' is too much I thought!

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 08:45

I reckon that Strictly is a little world of it's own, they all work soo hard at dancing that it becomes a bubble of over emotionalism.

The talk about partners on IT2 last night was very pointed IMO. How extremely supportive Greg's partner is etc etc…. Grin

YvaineStormhold · 22/11/2016 08:52

Maybe they've been reading MN.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 08:58

I'm not on Twitter but no doubt it's all over that too Yvaine

YvaineStormhold · 22/11/2016 09:08

Guardian message boards too.

Even if there's nothing in it, they've attracted speculation with all the fawning.

I've thought it before, though - not just this year. I understand why they have to get up close and personal while dancing, but I've never understood the arms around each other, back stroking, head resting on shoulders etc the rest of the time.

If someone did that to me at work I'd tell them to get the fuck off me, tbh.

(Well, not any more because I work with DP, but you get my drift)

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 09:15

It's a tricky one though, people on here ,and the judges, talk about a 'chemistry' between the couples which of course means proper closeness. I said at the beginning of this episode that the Strictly curse seems to be wished on them by others IYSWIM,

YvaineStormhold · 22/11/2016 09:20

Hopefully the speculation will die down now.

We all meet people we, ahem, respond to. It must be a bugger when that happens in a situation where you basically have to emulate shagging on a daily basis Grin

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 09:22

Exactly and in front of millions and millions of viewers Shock Grin Blush

GrouchyKiwi · 22/11/2016 09:23

I imagine very few non-touchy people go into professional dancing (suspect Tristan is one, maybe Brendan). And then they're probably expected to show the "chemistry" ppeat mentioned to encourage the public to like them as a dance couple.

ElspethFlashman · 22/11/2016 09:26

It's utterly removed from reality, isn't it?

I'm trying to imagine if that was my DP and no matter how secure and confident I was, I'd still be fucking shirty. It's too much. The only person of the opposite sex your DP should be blubbing and snotting over and swearing eternal loyalty to is YOU!

YvaineStormhold · 22/11/2016 09:38

DP and I had that conversation last night. I don't think either of us are particularly jealous types, ok I am a bit but we were both saying we wouldn't be happy with that level of emoting and pawing at someone.

Like I said - boundaries. Yer gotta have 'em.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 09:47

Yes Grouchy But if the pro is good at acting the contestant might take it wrongly. Dancing is probably the one physical activity that can include holding each other in inappropriate places Grin I hated doing partner work in ballet, my partner was hygienically challenged Shock

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 09:49

'The only person of the opposite sex your DP should be blubbing and snotting over and swearing eternal loyalty to is YOU!'

Exactly!

They are still fawning on twitter this morning. Someone told him to spend some time with his son.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 09:54

Oh dear Inkanta About them fawning on twitter , that sounds serious. Idiots.

CondensedMilkSarnies · 22/11/2016 10:02

I actually gasped out loud when they went in for a kiss , it was very cringey .

acurtis1234 · 22/11/2016 11:30

Natalie is this gushing and overly emotional with all her partners. She was particularly like this with Ricky Whittle and Scott Maslen, but even with Ainsley she was "sooooo proud" all the time...its just what shes like and I think its her way of trying to get the public to buy into the partnership.

FWIW, Gregs partner was in the green room of ITT last night she posted an Insta-story of her sitting next to Aljaz.

I don't think the "Strictly curse" happens as often as its made out, or any more than lots of work environments. Its hyped up for publicity, and part of the "show"

Inkanta · 22/11/2016 11:56

Natalie has been very popular with the public, but the public could lose patience, much like they did with Kristina if she's not careful, if she indulges her own emotions too much, at the expense of professionalism.

Millimat · 22/11/2016 13:22

Just watched itt from last night. More emphasis again on how he's had no dance experience and highlighting the others in the same position.
I think they've read this & that's why Natalie said that about the partners. I'll miss greg Sad

Millimat · 22/11/2016 13:25

Is it just me that watched itt when greg put on a pink cowboy hat and thought 'phwoarr' Grin

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2016 13:26

Well they've gone haven't they ? The public were obviously already fed up with them. Looking at the 2 dances, I still think they shouldn't have gone. Maybe that's why the judges have taken against them?
